Sony & Microsoft working together?

So what's up with this?

Apparently Microsoft has registered the domain names Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com. Does Microsoft know something we don't know? Read the story and give us your thoughts. Could the ultimate game console come from these companies working together?

Sony and Microsoft do dealings all the time. All the Sony Vaios have Windows and I'm pretty sure there was a Sony Ericcson Windows Mobile 6.5 phone(I might be wrong). Since it's Sony-Microsoft and not, say, Playstation-Xbox, I doubt this'll have to do with gaming.

I have been saying for about two years now that next gen Sony and Microsoft should co create a single console. The Microsoft Playstation 4 or something like that.

Sony can make and support the hardware, Mircosoft runs the online sevices and they both support their publishers.

Epic console.

They are teaming up to take on Apple and to destroy them before they get in the gaming market. Then it will be war between the big 3 again

Yep, mixing the consoles together would be a HUGE profit for Sony and Microsoft, as there only console competetion is the Wii U.

Epic console that plays ALL PS4 & Xbox 720 games? That would be crazy good. Let's think for a minute. PS3 51.3 million & Xbox 360 54.5 million = 105+ million. This may not be gaming related, but if it is we have some huge announcements heading our way. Tokyo Game Show is that far away.

Competition is the oil that powers an industry. If Microsoft and Sony made a single console Nintendo would be left alone to fight them and they'd get pummeled leaving only the MicroSony console.

Yeah devs will suffer having a platform to work on with a unified userbase...

Ps2 made great games without much competition so I don't see how quality of games will take a hit.

This. They're not exactly working together to create some sort of a XStation console.

This tag-team thing would only work if Apple entered. If not, Nintendo and PC-exclusive developers aren't enough from stopping Microsoft/Sony from taking over.

I really doubt it has to do with gaming, it's proably other tech stuff that they are collaborating on

Here I thought the TC and the other TCs that have posted the same thing on the other threads on this topic knew something I did not.

Apparently I was wrong. So I am going to go with my own heavy duty analysis wherein I determine in under 3 secs that this is a renewal of something that has apparently existed for years.

My analysis consisted of clicking thru to the source document and looking down two lines or so. There upon the mystery seemed less mysterious. Although I still don't know what for, but I dobelieve that apparently it has been for nothing important these past years.

Why? We're at a point where game prices are some of the lowest we've ever had. If Sony/Microsoft controlled the industry, they wouldn't have to keep prices low to compete and we'd be back to paying way too much for games.

It would probably be a financially beneficial joint venture for both. On the games front, the consumer wins. My fear would be that the venture would adopt the Microsoft business practices to which I take great exception (overpriced HDs, charge kits for controllers, online fees, etc.). As long as there were no undue Microsoft Milkage, I would be happy withthis partnership.
