The second favorite news after the release of NPD numbers is the Spin control from the Big 3 no word yet from Microsoft but both Sony and Nintendo have gotten there words in. From Sony reporting from their Playstation Blog

Hey everyone, I'm Mariam Sughayer, analyst relations manager here at SCEA. I'm the gal who works with those guys you see quoted in newspapers and news sites all the time talking about the industry; folks like Michael Pachter and Billy Pidgeon.

From a PlayStation perspective, coming out of E3 we were really anticipating a good reaction to our new hardware pricing announced on July 9th, and we were obviously very pleased to see that PS3 sales increased with 159K units sold at retail for the month of July, which puts us up 61% over June numbers.

While I think a lot of that had to do with the new price, I also think there is a great deal of anticipation for the line up of games just around the corner, including Warhawk (Aug. 28), Lair (Sept. 4) and Heavenly Sword (Sept. 12). In fact, September should definitely be a big month for us when you add in the launch of the new slimmer, lighter PSP which will hit store shelves next month.

And now from Nintendo Press room

Wii emerged as the month's best-selling video game system of any type in the United States and achieved its highest weekly sales rates since December, despite pricing shifts in the industry, according to the independent NPD Group

Wii and Nintendo DS remained the two best-selling video game systems in the United States, with Nintendo hardware outselling all other systems combined.

Nintendo remained the top U.S. game publisher for the sixth consecutive month.

So far this year, Nintendo titles claim six of the industrys top 10 best sellers, including the top three: Pokemon Diamond (overall No. 1) and Pokemon Pearl (No. 3) for Nintendo DS, and Wii Play (No. 2) for Wii.

Nintendo DS, with more than 300 titles available, has the largest game library for any current generation system.

Wii has added new titles (averaging nine per month since launch) at a faster rate than any other new home system.

Including an ever-increasing library of titles available for download on the Wii Shop Channel, American owners of Nintendo DS and Wii will have a combined selection of nearly 800 games to choose from by year end.

Nintendo expects momentum for both systems to continue, given the Aug. 20 launch of Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day for Nintendo DS and the upcoming Aug. 27 launch of the hugely anticipated Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for Wii.

I'll ad Microsoft's Spin when it is released

nothing too exciting about there comments, nintendo really didnt need to spin anything since they once again did amazing. Sony just stated how much they increased their sales and possible reasons why, but they must of accidently left out that there still in last.

nintendo as a game publisher and dev....has release a significant portion of those titles themselves...its just unbelievable how they do everything....from creating and supporting (well, might i add) the mega hit, ds, and the wii to developing and publishing multiple, quality, fanboy adored titles.

i mean lets look at this year for the wii and ds.

Zelda

Super mario galaxy

SSBB

MPC

MP:H

New super mario bros

Mario kart ds

Animal Crossing

Mario party 8

Yoshi ds

Mario Strikerz

Zelda: PH

Paper Mario

and more i cant think of rightnow

all are serious efforts by nintendo

i think we can all guess Microsoft's reaction, "man those analysts that said that the ps3 is going to outsell 360 and 360 is going to go down alot(in the article on gamespot one analyst said 110k) were really really off" i think they are probably a little stunned... they probably had a press release ready to damage control if they had been beaten by the ps3...

Not everyone buying a Ps3 for those games look at game sites buddy so they wouldnt know if they were good or bad they just look at the pretty cover of the game and buy it, imagine ifeverybody looks at game sitesthe 360 wouldnt of sold much when all the bad news of the faulty hardware was around the net ;)
