In all seriousness, I saw a mock-up of a PS5 pro in PS1 colors the other day and I'm really glad Sony made it real.
Do you have many fond memories of the original Playstation? Playing 3D games for the first time? Playing RPGs for the first time?
The PS5 Pro being limited and numbered… I keep trying to kick this collector thing and somebody does something to pull me back in.
I will probably just grab one of those controllers. Everything looks nice though
Not gonna lie ... that looks freaking awesome! lol
I need to get myself one of those DualSesnse controllers.
Definitely have some fond memories of the PS1. Some of those were:
- Darkstalkers
- Battle Arena Toshinden
- Metal Gear Solid
- Resident Evil 1 and 2
- Alundra
- Breath of Fire 3 and 4
- Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9
- Legend of Dragoon
- Dino Crisis 1 and 2
- Parasite Eve
- Street Fighter Alpha 1, 2, and 3
Damn that's a nice looking set of hardware. For the controller, it would have been cool if they had all the functionality of a Dualsense but managed to cram it in an original PS1 Dualshock controller shell.
Can the PS5 load PS1 games from PS1 Discs?
But yeah....good job that those Sony. Very nice.

No the PS5 can only read PS4 discs as it's a blu ray player and it is compatible with both.
But yeah that's a really good design. I'd love all of the functionality in an older shell. I still love holding the dualshock controllers.
I love expensive consoles, means I won’t have to play with the plebs I am pleb myself 🥹
Looks really cool , even though I never had a Ps1. Those cord ties are amazing! should sell them seperately.

Yeah me too, I only buy soulja boy consoles because they have that "exclusive" feel to them ^^
edit: maybe the chinese company that makes them will flood the market with the cord ties, that sometimes happens.
Those look cool, it should be the default design. They never should have got rid of the colors on the buttons.

Ah bugger :(. It would be nice if they gave a nod to the PS1 on the software side too in some way. Like Boots up with the original PS1 boot up sound (still the best sounding boot screen in all of consoledom....by miles.).
Oh yeah I forgot to answer the other question: Fond PS1 memories. Lots. For many here it was really everyones first taste in 3D games. Most people jumped from a Saga Master System or a Snes to the PS1 because...well....tomb raider, Wipeout, FF7, Resident Evil etc.
It was also just a huge treat for the senses. Jumping from Midi to CD music. 3D graphics which were very impressive at the time. FMVs (which, at the time, I thought where real time and processed in a special high power mode on the PS1. Don't under estimate the power of PlayStation and all that :P). More comfy controller compared to the Snes (rubbish for 3D games though. No sticks initially). And, of course, the games were "Mature" and "Edgy" and having games with an 18s cert was a big deal. These things were important when I was 12.
Yeah great console at the time. The fact that so many disc drives failed is a testament to how much that system was played....and the crappy disc drive :P.
PS1 was the first and last Phony console worth buying. :P
PS1 at it's time was light years better than the PS5 now.

Speaking of CD music, you could insert your PS1 games into a CD player and get their soundtracks, hehe
It was also the rise of GTA, another legendary franchise next to Tomb Raider, where the game got got a lot of criticism for being 2D, the soundtrack was absolutely amazing.

Yeah I remember that regarding the CDs. Did it a lot. You could also play just the music on a PS1 if you started it with the lid open, loaded the music player then pulled the lid down....as far as I remember. This only worked with games where the music was CD music (e.g. Tomb raider). It wouldn't work for the music in FF7 for example as that was midi.
I don't get it. I asked about TV's you folks have on these forums a few months ago. Console gamers can afford to buy a top of the range 55"+ 120Hz OLED TV for $1500+ but an $800 console is too much?
You do more on your TV than game, you buy a gaming console specifically to game (plus you van easily compare it to how costs were previous gens)
Also why people have no issue spending 1000+ on PCs and mobile phones.
Also if I were to buy a 1500 + TV watching content on it would cost me next to nothing.
Buying a 800 euro console and then buying 80 euro games on top and spending 15+ (I forgot the price and honestly don't care enough to google it) a month on PSN online... yeah costs really start to add up.
It's kinda an apples to oranges comparison.

Its also funny that people are complaining about a $800 console when they have no problem buying high end gaming rigs for double (or even triple) the money lol

PC is far cheaper eventhough it costs more initially.

You‘re not being honest with yourself lol. Even now, a 4080 PC that can play noticeably better is at least $2000. Then there’s the monitor and accessories, easily $2500-3000.
Kristen Zitani looks like Jeffrey Dahmer if he was gender swapped for the woke. And overweight.
Buy a PC.
@SolidGame_basic: we're not talking Gamecube anymore, consoles these days are far more expensive than PCs due to all the added costs.
What added costs? To play online? Not everyone plays online and there are free to play games.
If you look at the PS5 Pro, which is $700 without disc drive (PC’s haven’t had disc drives in years), and you don’t take into account the $70 controller, it’s $630. A 4080 GPU alone is $1000 https://store.nvidia.com/en-us/consumer/?page=1&limit=12&locale=en-us
