Sony BMG demanded music videos to be sold on the xbox 360 and not the ps3

One of the most ridiculous examples, presented by The Associated Press, is about Sony's music division, Sony BMG. The Sony BMG label is the second largest in the world, including artists from AC/DC to Will Smith. However, why is it that music videos from Sony BMG are available on Xbox 360 and not PS3? Because Sony BMG demanded it. Bertelsmann, the "BMG" part of the Sony BMG partnership, insisted that music videos are available on Xbox 360 instead of PS3 "to make sure it's a fair deal" for Bertelsmann, said a Sony executive. We're not sure how many heads have been face-palmed by that kind of ideology.

Thankfully, things will start changing, now that Sony has bought full control over the music division. Sony BMG will now be called Sony Music Entertainment. With more and more of Sony's media empire coming under one house, we're hoping it won't be too long before some not-so-stupid decisions are made at Sony HQ.

Was Kutaragi or Hirai still employed when this decision was made? Because this sounds like a Kutaragi type bungle to me, although I doubt the majority of PS3 or 360 users download music videos for a fee...

I don't see a problem with Sony music videos being sold on the 360, but it is strange why not on a PS3. Seems like the 360 got exclusive Sony music videos, pretty odd.

Better quality. Some music videos are actually done very well and it's nice to watch them in full resolution, which you cannot get on YouTube.

Other than that, I can't think of a reason.

the only reason i can think of for them making that decision is that putting the music on the PS3 could be seen as an anti competative move and sony may be hauled into court for it. but as long as they made the music available to both consoles (and any other device manufacturers that may want it) i dont see a problem with putting it on the PS3.

thats sony for ya though. there so big that while one division is knocking heads with MS in the console market, another is making a deal with MS to provide music for a competing platform. and of course sonys laptop division is also friendly with MS since they use windows.
