I would just like to debunk the whole "Sony had the idea for the sixaxis years before Wii was even announced"" theory.

If Sony had tilt functionality planned for the Playstation 3 for all these years before the Wii was announced, then why didn't Sony announce or even suggest their plan to the press during the unveiling of the original PS3 controller? Similarly to how Nintendo hinted upon unique design at E3 and later unveiled the redesign along with the motion sensing capability a month later?

After the failed lawsuit with Immersion, Sony decided to minimise the rising cost of Playstation 3 by disregarding rumble and redesigning the Playstation 3 controller instead, rather than paying the licensing fee's; and thus the Boomerang was born. But Sony's creative vision wasn't actually very good, and was widely criticized by Playstation fans shortly after the unveiling.

Nintendo was stirring up interest among the public with their new motion sensing technology. Eventually Sony decided to dump the original design after the announcement, and retrieve a patent filed by their engineering team, which was designed to mimic the Gameboy Color's Tilt add-on (which was already within the public domain at this point).

They updated the SNES-era side buttons by including two modern analogue triggers and came up with the company slogan that we have all come to know and love: "Rumble was last gen. Tilt is next gen."

Sony. Copied. Nintendo.

Sony just aren't very good.  Sixaxis certainly isn't special, it doesn't even have full 3D space motion detection like the cheapo Wii does. All it gathers is tilt.

I don't care.  The PS3's motion sensor sucks and I never use it.  The Wii looks like garbage on my TV so I don't play it either (it's my wife's).   I don't care who creates what as long as company can provide me with something that I'm looking for.

Sony did not copy Nintendo.

If they had, then the PS3 would be selling like hotcakes and would be out of stock everywhere... like the Wii.

It is innovative. Since when did the definition of innovative change to mean "teh 1zt 1 2 do sumting". Light guns have been around for years and years and years. The technology was always there, Nintendo didn't invent anything.

The Siaxaxis is innovative in the way that it improved upon the DualShock, and it is innovative in that it put motion sensing capabilities into a "normal" controller rather than some ridiculous nunchakus.

Also, I'm pretty sure Sony had the concepts for the Sixaxis for awhile, but never decided to use it. They saw Nintendo's new thing and thought "hey, why not"

edit: of course, there's no proof. It just makes more sense, because these companies always do that kind of stuff.

Eh? During the NES days, the only computers around were Crapple IIe's and the like. They used 5.25 in floppies, or at the very best, 3.5 in floppies. Compact Disc was around, but it wasn't widely used, and it sure as hell didn't "own" anybody, least of all Nintendo.

Edit: Ahh, didn't notice the word "engine" attached, I just sort of skimmed.

You're talking about the TurboGrafx16 then, in which case I have to say LMAO. TurboGrafx "owned" Nintendo? Good grief.

PC Engine dominated NES in the Japan market with over 70% of the market.  Of course this was before the American market.  Sega schooled Nintendo back then and PC Engine had stopped.
