[QUOTE="O_Lineman17"] People keep saying the price drop of the PS3 is out of desperation, well thennn why not look at it like this..?
Microsfot has many SKU's on the market right now, with another one about to be released.... I'm smeliing MS's fear...
Microsoft has also dropped the prices of their SKU's... :O, they're afraid of Sony, I see it now.
That sounds stupid doesn't it? And I think it sounds just as stupid as "Sony is dropping the price in desperation".
You can twist it anyway you wwant, but the fact remains that what Sony is doing the smart thing to do.
Palax
Unfortunately for Sony the smart thing to do is to be desperate. The reason why is because of the amount of money it is losing per system. Competition is the reason, but competition breeds desperation.
Sony is definitely desperate and after seeing the Sept 2007 NPD number, they are going to get more desperate next year. Sony is going to be losing millions with all these price drops. They made one price drop and announced the 80GB PS3. Now, less then 2 months later, they announce a price drop on the NEW 80GB PS3 they just released and release a new SKU (40GB PS3). If that's not desperation, I don't know what is. M$ has only made one price drop and they have released the Elite. That's about it. They need to ditch the Core all together. I still can't understand why they are keeping that system alive. They should have terminated when they announced the price drop.

Wow, that is some seriously flawed logic right there. Refer to my post above.
If the 360 is doing so well, why did theprice drop already? Why did they suddenlycome out with a new SKU, which included HDMI, and astandard120GB HDD?By your logic, that would be out of desperation, however it's just business like I mentioned before. New information, price drops, new sku's, etc. can all spark sales._AsasN_
Uuumm.. the price dropped on the XBox 360 almost 22 months after launching. Sony dropped the price of the PS3 just 8 months after launch. The only other 2 consoles that dropped their price quicker was the Virtual Boy and the 3DO systems. Those consoles ended up dying in less then 2 years.
M$ released a new SKU to cater to hardcore gamers and to support their HD downloadable movies and T.V. shows. That's why the Elite was announced. Why did Sony release the 80GB PS3 and then announce a cheaper 40GBPS3? That logic doesn't make any sense. Yes, it's business, but in Sony's case, it's desperate panic business. Sony's logic right now is "The competition is pulling away FAST and the holidays are approaching. Our PS3 is still higher then the competition and it's being outsold in all 3 regions combined to the Wii and XBox 360 sales in the U.S. along. What do we do!?!? What do we do!?!?"
