Sony is disputing Microsoft's statement about the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales during the week of Black Friday. Here's what Kimberly Otzman, a Sony spokeswoman, said to Todd Bishop of seattlepi.com:

"It's (Sony Computer Entertainment America) policy not to disclose our unit sales numbers until NPD numbers are officially released which will be December 13th. However, I can assure you that Microsoft's estimates of our PS3 unit sales numbers are way off and they did not outsell PS3 2:1 during Black Friday week."

Well, CNBC got their numbers somewhere, Sony thinks it was M$. We just don't know, but what we do know is this reaction was FAST.

The Fanboys here in SW only had a day to make fun of Sony with this news, instead of the usual months.

I wonder where CNBC did get their figures from...

non-bias  They are always biased. I wish though he would post as InfamousC again though. His threads are more boring now. He just most times makes a thread like " PS3 sold 20 more consoles in Nigeria- PS3 on the road to win" and then not post again in the thread again besides the second post. When he posted as InfamousC he was full out fanboyish.

So what Sony is trying to say there is, they allow NPD to release first in the hope that they over-count PS3 sales.

Of course Sony disputes them, its BS. IF you spoke to anyone who went shopping on black Friday or the weekend right after, PS3 was hot. I didn't see one comment about 360's flying off of shelves. Its going to be hilarious when the final numbers come in.

MS is losing grip and they are getting scared.

Dude, yes, they said retailers. Does CNBC sit and calculate sales numbers or do they have that much at stake to give that effort? No. MS, supposedly, got those numbers from the retailers and gave that info to the writer. Don't get it twisted.

If this info. was available to all, many articles would be saying the same thing. Right? But CNBC has been the only one to claim these numbers. Is it making sense to you now?

If Sony really had the numbers to back up their claims they would have ran through the industry, shouting the news from the top of the hills. Only Ninty and MS have disclosed their Black Friday numbers while Sony is still playing the hype game of "PS3 sales increased 300%" and letting analysis pull magical numbers from their arse....the public wants to know 300% of what?!?!?

Why bother disputing it when they can just increase advertising on GS, express concern that the "right" facts get reported, and watch for the good press to start flowing? Let's face it, the economy is tough so CNET will make sure the "correct" spin gets out. Who wants to lose their job before Chirstmas?

NO COMPANY HAS THE REAL NUMBERS!!!! So its Sony who is actually doing the right thing and not speculating on those numbers like MS. Don't give me this crap that Sony is waiting for some number cruncher at NPD to give them extra sales. That's ludicrous.

Until the actual numbers come in, keep it closed. Its that simple.

And if I had heard one single story about someone seeing 360's flying off of retailer's shelves, I might believe the CNBC article. But everything, EVERYTHING, I heard about last weekend was PS3, PS3, PS3.

Of course that's all you've heard, it's constantly happening with the 360 and Wii. It becomes normal to see it. The PS3 on the other hand has a pretty poor sales history, now it has turned for one week and there are mass reports. It happend at the 360 launch, it happend with the Wii launch.

The guy with Riley in his avatar is a total meathead.

When your competition is clearly outselling yout 4:1 and 7:1 EVERY WEEK, it doesn't help to say "PS3 sells 120k units YAY!" when that is the average sale of the other systems. That's pathetic. 300% is a propaganda tool. Sounds big, sounds flashy.

But in the end the PS3 still didn't sell one lick so who cares?

Technically CNBC didn't even say that...it was some guy from some show called "Power Lunch". I said from the start and I will say it again, I think he was comparing the 360's 300,000 number to previous MONTHLY sales of the PS3. Because their is no way that retailers can say their PS3 sales trippled (245% increase) and that only brings PS3 sales up to 150,000. We know what the PS3 normally sells in any given month and it makes no sense to say the PS3 only sold 150,000 with a price drop during the busiest shopping day of the year.

What? NA only reports monthly sales numbers. ON average, the 360 sells 200,000 - 300,000per month (more at this time of year, but that is the exception so far). On average, the PS3 sells around 100,000 - 150,000 a month before the price dropped.

So I fail to see where you get this 4:1 and 7:1 "every week" crap from. The FACTS don't back you up, sir.

LOL @ Sony.

They don't disclose U.S. sales until the NPD numbers are released because the people at Sony love to lie and the NPD figures would prove them wrong again and again...

...but as far as worldwide numbers are concerned, they sure release their "sales figures" to the left and to the right since there is nothing in place that can prove that their funny numbers are a bunch of lies...

...and then Vgchartz includes these Sony numbers in their figures...

...and desperate cows, hungry for possitive news, quote Vgchartz numbers and actually believe (well, not all of them, only the really sad ones do) in their accuracy...

Sony is getting spanked.

Spanked, I said!!!

What would be funny is if the 360 outsold the PS3 by THREE to ONE...

Then, in a way, the Sony PR crony would be correct!

This is why you just wait for the official numbers before making ANY statements that come back to bite you.

Yeah, I'm sure MS is desperately afraid of a company whose newest console is getting so dominated in every aspect that they continue to take little pieces out of the system in the hopes of losing a little less money on it.

A few Retailers, Best Seller lists, and 1000+ posts on NEOGAF over ancedotal evidence of black friday sales disagree with you. You could still be right, but the odds are near that of winning the lottery now with enough evidence stacking odds the other way.

Besides, Sony has lied about it sales before...well, didn't lie, just was sneaky by rolling all "console" sales into a PR release once to make it look awesome, and then got caught. Remember that now don't you? Was just a fwe weeks ago.

I curios why is Microsoft even commenting on Sony's numbers? Unless there worried.

Blinblingthing

I think it's the other way around.

Yeah, I'm sure MS is desperately afraid of a company whose newest console is getting so dominated in every aspect that they continue to take little pieces out of the system in the hopes of losing a little less money on it.

um, aren't tekken and dmc multiplat?

360 is the better system right now with it's games, that's all i care about. i'll get the ps3 when i have a reason to.

North America, aka the Biggest Videogame Market in the World? Besides, the PS3 is selling pitifully in Japan (the last few weeks notwithstanding), and in Europe it's not a big enough difference to offset the US alone. If the PS3 were to take over Japan, that would be a big problem for the 360, but if they continue to struggle as they are, "ONLY...NA" will mean a lot more than you seem to think.

So you're trying to tell me that Ratchet & Clank isn't a big game? Wasn't Lair supposed to be? Heavenly Sword? Uncharted? The 360 had Gears in its 1st year, what did the PS3 to compare to that? Let's face it; PS3 fanboys have been hyping Sony exclusives since the beginning, but so far they haven't won the public over, and that's the important part. Are you really trying to tell me that Tekken and DMC (a game also coming to the 360) are going to make a difference? Sony is hoping and PRAYING that MGS4 and FFXIII come out next year, don't go multiplat, and finally sell the way the AAA 360 games do. The biggest problem with Sony's system isn't the price, as everyone likes to claim; to a lot of people, the price is offset by the value of what comes in the box. The real problem is that the 360 continues to deliver big games, whereas the PS3 continues to deliver big talk.

Since we are all disputing around here, I dispute the load of hype Sony used to convince me that the PS3 was going to be as good or better than the 360.

A couple of bright spots here and there has not lived up to my expectations of what this system should have accomplished by now.

I didn't realize a year into the lifespan I would have so few games worth my time.

[QUOTE="DaysAirlines"]MS never made it, CNBC did. MS never releases sold numbers.Yellow_Rose

Who do you think gave CNBC the numbers?

keep deluding yourself on that

Did you noticed that Sony isn't disputing that 360 outsold the PS3. They're disputing that the 360 outsold it by 2 to 1.

DiD SONY ever state they outsold M$? Nope, SO i am not sure why you mentioned That. SOny is just Trying to Say that They are no step Closer to closing tha Gap on MS. With JPN and EU favoring SOny its just NA left. If X360 doesn't outsell SONY PS3 2:1 in NA that big for sony considering PS3 hasn't even gotton any heavy hitters yet

Since the Dawn Of Time COws have Hyped MGS, Tekken, GT, GOW etc etc

Those are games that will sell systems

Sure NA is about the Biggest Market But We call expect to PS3 truly perform with out its greatest games. Xbox 360 got Halo with is with out a doubt one of the industries biggest games. It saw same go beyond. Quite expected. Lets have PS3 get a Heavy Hitter like GT5 and see what happens
