they need some kind of incentive, bravias lose every head to head comparason against every tv they go up against.
i have not looked at tv ratings for a couple of months since i bought a tv but seriously, i never saw one shootout that a bravia won.

I don't believe those reviews that hype other brands. LG gets lots of favorable reviews in those "head to heads" - but what about long term? Are they going to last? If you didn't know LG is just the old Korean "Goldstar" brand, their reputation was so bad they had to completely rebrand themselves as "LG" (lucky goldstar). They seem to have made some quality improvements, and now they release things that are on cutting edge of TV technology (whereas before they were just the bottom of the barrel "disposable" model at Wal-Mart). But I am still concerned about their quality after scouring reviews online, and visiting stores. I was turned off when I visited stores and they seemed to have more display models with technical problems than other brands. Saw one LED model at Best Buy that had a line of stuck LCD's right down the middle of the set, all the way from top to bottom. There were several other display models were just turned "off" - presumably for technical problems, it was rare for other brands, but for LG it seemed to be a common theme. I guess it's true Sony used to be the top of the heap for televisions, and now they are just another player in the TV market.
After being iniitially intent on getting a Samsung I ended up buying the Sony EX700, which according to CNET only got 3 stars, but to me looks much better than the Samsung "edge lit" models, and miles better than the LG sets. Beyond just the picture the interface seems more "professional", the remote is better, the tuner is faster, the sound is actually somewhat decent (so I don't need to turn on surrounds just to watch TV), etc. Basically everything about the Sony says it is better electronics all around. However the actual panel is probably made by Samsung or Sharp, which is the knock against Sony now, they don't technically even make their own LCD panels. They use components from other manufacturers.
all i know is that for the two months before i bought my new tv i read every review i could find and could not find one single head to head comparason that sony won.now i'm sure the differences are prolly as insignificant as the diff between console multiplats but i also know that i stayed away from the bravias because of the reviews.
You have to test with your own eyes man. All these LCD sets get 3 and 3.5 stars on CNET anyway. Yet they seem to give every PLASMA set 4 stars. I know videophiles like their Pioneer Kuro, but to me the plasma's that are left on the shelves are just not as good despite whatever the reviews say. Obviously there is more competition for sony than 10 years ago. But their XBR sets are still class leading, and I like their LED sets compared to the other "edge lit" models. Basically the only two models to look at were Sony and Samsung. I just don't trust LG and lots of people complain about them online, so I eliminated them from a "reilability" standpoint. But besides that their picture didn't look to have any advantage either.
I'm not just a Sony loyalist either, as this is my first Sony television ever. I had a Sharp previously, and my last tube TV was a JVC. If I was going to spend $2000 instead of the $750 I spent I probably would have gotten a Sharp Quattron. However if I could have ANY television period no doubt it would be a 60" Sony 3D XBR.
After looking at TV's for MONTHS, I basically got the EX700 because it was on sale and under my budget, it was LED which means less power hungry and should last longer than a Plasma, etc. I personally thought it was better than Samsung;s equivalent edge lit LED, but I actually got it for a few hundred $$$ less than the same size competition which sealed my decision. In fact the next lowest LED model I could have got that was cheaper would have been a Vizio Razer 37" LED, but that set is a joke compared to the Bravia which is quite nice.
