According to this article:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6174649.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;3

"At Sony's show, the electronics giant [...] announced that Unreal Tournament III would be PS3-only for this year, and showed off Killzone 2."

However after seeing the E3 vid of Haze (Gametrailers), I noticed that this too is probably PS3 only (Only Playstation 3 logo at the end), at least for this year.

With UT3, Haze, and Killzone 2 set to confront Halo 3, is anyone rethinking which company should sit on the shooter throne? At least for this year?

no, because one thing kills shooters on the PS3 and its that controller, plus haze and killzone are still unproven products... UT3, the way hermits talk about it seems like it wont feel the same on consoles...

the ps3 controller is sucktacular for shooters, and why would they release the 360 version of haze or ut3 at the same time as halo 3? that would be game suicide.

Well for one, KZ2 isnt scheduled for release this year so take that off the list. Secondly Haze is honestly not looking like it will really have any impact on the shooter genre. That leaves UT3, which I will love, but will still not compete with Halo on consoles.

I'm excited to see how Killzone works out. I was originally skeptical, but I'm warming up to the game now.

:)

I hope they can manage to retain the original way the game played, but only making it faster. Everything was so slow in Killzone.

The guns, the firefights, everything moved sluggishly.

The Playstation 3 version of UT3 will also support mods and user-created content according to Gamespot (directly from Epic). It will be able to play mods created for the PC platform via flash drive and they are hoping to create some sort of download service.

So, yeah. F***** SWEET.

UT is also on the pc..so you can take that off the list and has Haze been confirmed to be a ps3 exclusive..or a timed exclusive?

raidenseven

But UT3, Killzone 2, and Haze each look better than Halo 3 at this stage in development, and that says a lot. Beyond simply the capabilities of the system itself, it sends a message that a lot of resources are being put forward on the project (and considering the practically bottomless budget that Halo 3 must have, it's even more impressive certainly) and that makes me simply doubt that gameplay will be lackluster as a result.

Modern blockbusters are very much built around the Total Package.

In other news you just tried to invalidate three exclusve (two timed exclusive) shooters on the PS3 because "wah wah wah controller," "wah wah wah consoles." First off, Resistance plays beautifully on the PS3 pad, the 360 pad isn't all it's cracked up to be, I'd put the PS3 pad on the same footing if not above the 360 pad in esteem, and if that's even an issue for you, buy the mouse controller peripheral for the PS3. It's called the FragFX. Apparently it's very popular.

Additionally, mods, user created content, beautiful visuals on par with the PC according to Gamespot, and a clean framerate. What's not to love? I own a PC and instead of forking out towards an upgrade I'm definitely getting the PS3 version of this game.

"the ps3 controller is sucktacular for shooters, and why would they release the 360 version of haze or ut3 at the same time as halo 3? that would be game suicide."

Those games are both coming out on 360. Presumably they are PS3 exclusive this year so that they DON'T compete directly with Halo. But I'm sure you know all about that.

At this point I take the time to ask you why. Mods: no longer PC exclusive. In fact, let's say you make a map personally for UT3 on PC. I DL it from Modplanet or whatever, throw it on my flash drive, and play it on my PS3. Pa-pa-pwned.

The visuals are the same, and you can buy the FragFX controller and get the exact same control scheme you would on a computer with keyboard.

PS3 2007: Haze - Timed exclusive and looks like crap, nothing new UT3 - will be better on PC with DX10 and quad core if you cows like it or not 360 2007: Halo 3 - Exclusive Ownage Bioshock - will be better on PC with DX10 and quad core if you lemmings like it or not Mass Effect - Its a shooter and will own alot of games hands down. Gears - Nuff said, and still fun as hell! It is solid for the PS3, but the 360 will own it. Sorry. Im more excited about killzone 2 on PS3 then any other shooter. Dont bother using the "but teh controller sux" because you can connect your mouse n keyboard, or the babel fish controller to give it more of a pc scheme gameplay.

The visuals will not be the same. A PC with an 8800GTX, 2 GB of RAM and C2D will destroy UT3 on ps3.

First off, that's not for mods work for the PS3. You download them from the PS Store, and since they do not want people hacking/giving virus to the PS3 I am sure they will have to be screened by Epic before they are put on the Store. Second, why even talk about UR3? It's coming out on the PC at the same time so it is not exclusive. I see Sony fans all the time bash and not count 360 games that are also on PC but now for whatever reason UR counts? And I can't believe you said in your other post the PS3 controller is better then the 360's for shooters. Only totaly blind fanboys or someone that has never played a 360 would say that.

Why is the ps pad bad for shooters? The sticks dont have enough resistance and no triggers are the main issues to me. The sticks being so close to each other gives me cramps after an hour or so. Its just too damn light as well.

Problems with your post: Mass Effect is an RPG. If RPGs with shooter elements count, Uncharted must count. And if RPGs with shooter elements count, Ratchet must count, because it has shooting as well.

Exclusivity is not ownage. If exclusivity is ownage, timed exclusivity on PS3 for Haze and PS3 and PC for UT3 means ownage up and down the street for Halo 3.

Plus, if "DX10 and quad core" make PC multiplats so much better, then Bioshock must count against the Xbox 360 according to your logic, and so must Gears of War since they're both coming to PC.

you must have never played a pc fps game.

where do we start, the left dual analog stick is in the wrong place(gamecube controller fixed that), there is no trigger-like functionality with the lame l1 l2 r1 r2 and the fact that the l1+r1 are tiny and the l2+r2 are rediculously oversized doesnt help, not to mention the fact that the l+r buttons are flat and dont give a good fps feel.must i continue?

TheCrazed420

What "known battery issues" are you speaking about? Cite a source, please.

If you are speaking of "battery issues" as in referring to the Li-on battery in the Ps3 controller as a detriment as opposed to a bonus, I have to halt you there. The internal battery in the Sixaxis is lighter, uses USB recharging, and isn't as bulky.

Sony will replace your Sixaxis controller free of charge.

"Replacing batteries" isn't a bonus.

If the placement of the sticks is detrimental on the Sixaxis then my point here must be valid. The Xbox 360's sticks are placed incorrectly and are inadequate for FPS. Because the analog is across from the face buttons, you have to reach to use the right analog. The right analog is more important than the face buttons in FPS so this is an issue. This means the controller has adequacy issues, and by your logic this passes.

Your cramps are of no concern to me. And "too damn light" really isn't in the world's vocabulary. The lighter, the better. That's pretty much all unless you've got to weigh something down or you're getting rammed into by something heavy....

When you're holding something in mid-air, the lighter it is the longer you can hold it, the easier you can manipulate it, etcetera.

Question: do you use the face buttons or the right analog stick more often in an FPS? Which is a higher priority to you? Would you say that the left analog and the right analog are the most important components of control on any console controller?

Second, FragFX. Your argument is pure damage control, it is utter nonsense, and if you don't want a Sixaxis, buy a FragFX instead.

Sony says: we support open source, and we love user-created content. Epic is a notorious supporter of user created content.

Solution to console downloading issues: grab a USB, throw it in your PS3, and download any PC mod on the planet and play it. No scanning, no issues, no nothing. Stop making BS up.

Let me revoke that statement. UT3 is not timed exclusive, that's from the lips of Sony. UT3 is simply not on 360 this year, end game.

I've played a 360 and the I prefer the Sixaxis. Does that mean I'm a fanboy? No. I've been playing on this pad for over ten years. Maybe I just have an affinity for it, maybe I'm just familiar with it. Does that mean it's better/worse? Who knows. I'm just invalidating that absolutely baseless argument. Familiarity is a plus, as well, for the millions who owned a PS1 or PS2.

Plus, give the controller argument a rest already. Frag FX is the solution, period. Frag FX is not available to the Xbox 360 and it is presumably better than the 360 pad.

Magical_Zebra

Are you not the same Redfingers that bashes the 360 because all it has is "teh shooters"? According to you. Contradictions and true fanboy colors FTW!!!!!

I've never bashed the 360 because it has Bioshock. I praise the 360 because it has Bioshock. I also praise the 360 because it has Mass Effect, an RPG.

But if you want to talk about shooters, at least this year, I think Sony's got a pretty competitive lineup. Did I say a single thing about Sony having the BEST lineup? Read, read, read. Don't make baseless conclusions.

PS3 has beat-em-up action genre, RPG, MMO, adventure, platforming....if Sony is so committed to not being pigeonholed in one genre, why would I label them as the "shooter console?"

I'm just saying it has a good lineup. Not everyone in this forum has to be a fanboy.

Interesting...these people seem to disagree with you. As a matter of fact, the best controller of all time is....

The Xbox 360 pad has proven itself over a longer time and on a wider selection of titles -- and it has its own claims to originality.

It's not terribly pretty -- it's beige, for a start -- but the Xbox 360's pad is a winner on several counts. For starters, it was the first wireless pad to come as standard. Its comfy, solid design offers dual analogue joysticks and two analogue trigger buttons underneath.

There's also a built-in jack for connecting a headset, so you can hear and talk to your n00b opponents. Can it be waved around like a magician's wand? Hell no, but this is about serious man-gaming -- there's no time for moving your arms when your thumbs are tapping this fast.

Oops!

Question: does the Xbox 360 have a competitor to the Frag FX controller on the PS3?

Second Question: Does Xbox Live have dedicated servers? How about user-created content support? How about mods? Does the Xbox 360 read flash drives? I don't have time to give you an education on this basic bullcrap. I swear you kids will dispute me and fight tooth, nail, and claw over the most mundane bullcrap. Is the Sixaxis better than the 360 pad? WHO GIVES A FLIPPING CRAP. The point is it's a non-issue, while the obvious thing that we CAN discuss is that the Playstation 3 has user-created content while the Xbox 360 does not.

Frag FX>360 pad

in FPS

The Sixaxis has two analog sticks, it is wireless, Bluetooth, and comes standard with the Playstation 3.

I don't care what that magazine/review source named the 360 pad, it was named before the PS3 was even launched.

I still play CSS, Half Life 2, Day of Defeat, Resistance, Battlefield, Red Orchestra, FEAR, Quake...so, no.

But in case I ever do I've got RTS on PC and RPGs, platformers, adventurers, and beat-em-ups out the ears on PS3.

no, because one thing kills shooters on the PS3 and its that controller, plus haze and killzone are still unproven products... UT3, the way hermits talk about it seems like it wont feel the same on consoles...

Im not gonna read all that because its alot of bs that your spitting out. Unlike u I own both the systems we are discussing so I can give an unbiased opinion. Im not trying to bash the PS3 in any way as I love it for its games and how the controller works for those games. However the 360 pad is much better for a fps game no if ands or buts around it.

And Im sorry but live experience is much better than PSN (at this moment in time) much more polished, very user frindly one button and all the info needed comes up (guide button) and not to mention the other standard features offered that u dont necessarly see but are their to make the experience even better for the user.

Problems with your post:

I've been playing on a Dualshock since '97.

News flash: there is a pretty sweet battery pack on the 360 controller. You have fun with that.

Point invalidated: Frag FX for PS3. Nothing like this exists on 360?

raidenseven

I don't have a battery pack on my 360 controller.

Personally, I think all of you fanboys are putting too many of your eggs in the wrong baskets.. I mean, C'mon, Kill Zone 2? It looks good, but there have been plenty of games that looked good but handled like crap. I. E. Kill Zone 1.

You've got some pretty good looking games coming out on PS3, but quit trying to say you "pwn to teh maxxxorz" with the pretty sequel of a game that was also pretty and did terribly.

Second question: Does your second paragraph even begin to address what I said about Live? It's missing features that Epic wants to utilize in it's console versions of the game. And the game's timed exclusive...making the connection now?

Because you have a wired controller? Although I actually prefer the wired 360 to the wireless controller, I don't think you can hold anything against wireless owners.

Killzone 1 was rated down specifically because of graphical glitches. Meanwhile, Gears of War was rated up because of high quality graphics.

Read the OP and find and quote where I said the word "pwn" and "Sony" or even stated that Sony was the best of the three companies in the shooter genre.

"Aside from the PS3 version looking to be on par with the PC version, the other key thing to know is that the PS3 version of the game will have support for mods and other user-created content, in a way that sounds like it will be a first for consoles. Mods built for the PC version will work on the PS3 version of the game. Right now, Epic is testing this functionality by copying the content onto a memory stick and then copying that to the PS3 hard drive, but they're hoping to get the PC removed from that equation and make mod and map downloading a part of the PS3 version. To speed up loading overall, the game can be completely installed to the PS3 hard drive, but you'll still need to have the disc in the drive for copy protection purposes."

http://e3.gamespot.com/story.html?sid=6174560&pid=928371&tag=topslot;title;2

As a note, I believe I linked this already. Maybe not USB, but memory stick. I misread it. Still, same basic content. This article says that they're attempting to localize mod downloading instead of using the PC as a component in the process as they have to do now. This means that PSN is hardly involved in the current state of the game.
