OK, last week we got the article about Sony incorportaing in game XMB, trophies, and a Mii like system.

Today we see patents for a motion controller and a touchscrreen...

I used to love Sony, there were the go to company for innovate consumer electronics (walkman anyone?). Now they are downright stealing from the competition. At what point is sony going to bring something new to the table other than what MS and Nintendo have been doing for years?

I've taken note to this. Everyone's copying everyone else, there's zero originality in any of them doing it, though Sony has been doing more of this than the others...

Actually, the Mii like system is being developed my Microsoft.

Sony saw that Microsoft had some good things in the 360 and decided to incorporate them into the PS3. Call it stealing or copying if you want, but it makes things better for the gamers.

I'm sorry, wtf? you DO realize that ALL GAMING COMPANIES HAVE TAKEN IDEAS FROM OTHER PEOPLE. Besides that:

My god, I hate threads like this that act as if only one company does this stuff, seriously, LOOK AROUND YOU.

So your saying its not ok for sony to copy others but when microsoft does it, its ok? And dont even say they dont copy, because every company copies. Its just who does it the best.

please enlighten me... what has sony brought to the table this generation?

Sony started with a game console long before M$ even thought about even getting into gaming. Many of the things M$ has released in hardware has been around for years by other companies. The 360 uses hardware that's about 10 years old basicly while Sony is using hardware that is so new that they had to push the release of the PS3 back until the bugs were worked out.

You saying that means

- Microsoft copyied the PC with online gaming

- Microsoft copyied Sony by making a controller with 2 analog sticks with rumble

- Microsoft copyied the Dreamcast by putting triggers on a controller

You got it all wrong. It's okay for companies to copy each other. It's how ideas develop. It's the fact that Sony COMPLETELY copies and doesn't even try to make their own way of doing things or innovating. That's why you should be furious with Sony.

Rumble, they were the first to implement rumble into the controller and not as a periphial item.

They were the first to use the DVD format into the PS2

They invented the eye toy, a rip off of the webcam, and people enjoy those.

You would think some people own sony the way they defend it... the day nintendo or microsoft starts doing that I would do the same for them (and they have in the past)... and you guys should as well. It's fanboyism like defending a position that is just silly which amazes me...

this.

ps3: Blu-ray, HOME, USB ports on the ps3 that actually accepts most things, "true" detachable hard drives

360: achievements(i guess?), many live improvments, in-game messaging.

Wii: motion sensing...can't really think of any right now atm.

Happy? Other people are happy to add to the list.

I'm glad we could stay on MS. But isn't the thread about Sony? And if MS copied the Xbox controller from Sega they made it worse than it originally was, which would be sad.

Being innovative or copying innovations is the same.

It's the consumer who is benefited. Screw the moral "oh this one invented this so it's bad to copy".

no, thats a legitimate point... but frankly it doesn't do anything for me. Putting more data on a disc isn't that big a deal to me. Don't give me the you can have bigger games argument... look at lost odyssey, during the course of the 100 hour or so game I had to get up and switch the disk 3 times... big deal. Give me something new that really affects my gaming.

All the systems have copied something from other systems and attempted to make it better. Thats the way businesses work.

The PS1 was the original system with motion sensing controls, not the Wii. You can look it up at a bunch of sites on google. It was dropped for the Playstation 2 because too many owners had complained about the diffuculty. But when Sony heard that the "Revolution" was gonna have motion sensing controls and saw all the hype over it, Sony decided to bring that back.

Lots of people say that the middle button on the PS3 copied the Xbox360. I'll give them that. But, Microsoft had copied Sony in the general features of the Playstaion 2 controller. They both had 2 analog sticks, 4 main buttons, a directional pad, and 4 shoulder buttons. Granted the layout wasn't the same, the general controls remained the same.

And not only that but Microsoft had copied Sony for making a gaming console in the first place. Sony had their first console out years before the original Xbox.

And, if it wasn't for sony, most of our games would probably still be on cartridges. I even think that Nintendo and Sony split because of the fact that Sony wanted to go on with the future and switch over to disks, while Nintendo was still looking at ways for improving the cartridge. Who won that war?

So yeah, I'll give you that Sony has recently copied a lot of things from other systems, but don't they deserve it? Where would gaming be today without Sony?

That wasn't for the Wiimote, that was the Gamecube controller. Analscrape made a patent and described a dualshock controller (pretty much what Sony's doing right now patenting touchscreen and motion controls) and sued Nintendo and Microsoft. They didn't sue Sony because it would have been to obvious.

no, thats a legitimate point... but frankly it doesn't do anything for me. Putting more data on a disc isn't that big a deal to me. Don't give me the you can have bigger games argument... look at lost odyssey, during the course of the 100 hour or so game I had to get up and switch the disk 3 times... big deal. Give me something new that really affects my gaming.

I'm sorry, what was it that MS had bought to this gen that was new?
