Sony has lost its influence this gen already nomatter what

No matter what happens in from here Sony has failed this gen. Look at the massive market share it had with the PS1 and PS2, the PS3 will no get anywhere close to that level. Im not sure where it currently sits in market share but its still a distant 3rd from Wii and 360.

Nintendo and Microsoft has won this gen by taking significant shares of the market from Sony, that can not be argued. The question is how much Sony will fall behind and if it continues to sell like it has how will it affect Sony's future plans for something like the PS4? Theres no way the PS3 will last 10 years at the current rate of sales.

Sony went from having over 70 percent marketshare with the PS2 to under 20 percent marketshare with the PS3.

Even if the PS3 picks up the pace a lot, Sony will still have lost a lot of ground in marketshare this gen.

Even if the PS3 starts selling at a tremendous rate, Sony will still be lucky just to break even in their pocket books this gen.

How is that not a failure?

Funny how the TC says this yet you do realise that after so much time now Nintendo has a greater market share after having 2 flop consoles before... Just because the PS3 isn't doing good as expected doesn't mean Sony's losing out on the console war ground they still have more in Japan then the 360 ever will. Solid_Max13

But it does. Unless they get near the PS1 and PS2 levels then the PS3 is a failure. They never will thats the point and if you do think that they have a chance then you need to realise there is a casual phenomenam and a console that has established itself as the defacto hardcore console in front of the PS3 which are both at CHEAPER prices. How can it catch up with the others when it is always a step behind the others? The only unique thing the PS3 has is Blu-ray and nobody really cares about HD movies other than videobuffs so i can't see how it will be a factor.

Please, waiting for "stellar" games to the next console is a pretty big leap. "Just wait for MGS4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2"...actually scrap that, "just wait till the PS4" :P

Lost its influence? By a little, maybe. Lost Marketshare? Obviously it has. Failure? Nope. The sole purpose of the PS3 is to enjoy videogames on the platform. Until PS3's aren't being made anymore, it hasn't failed.

No matter what happens in from here Sony has failed this gen.

I couldn't care less which is better. I'm just stating as it looks right now in terms of the Consoles. But, then again, i'm not the person that goes around spouting off sales figures like it's all that matters (these people know who they are). I personally only have Spiderman 3 on Bluray because it came with it. I play alot of PS3 titles because i like them. Good for you, keep watching your movies.

I dont let numbers control my decisions. I am a Nintendo fan and when a Nintendo product is in the lead (doesnt matter what it is) i do like to throw it at people, the fact that my company is doing better than the compition. Did Nintendo's lead affect my decision to buy a PS3? No it didnt. I bought my PS3 becuase i know there would be games i would enjoy. Has that happened yet? No it hasnt. When Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out ill be ready but until then my PS3 is a cheap Blu-Ray player.

While all fanboys throw sales numbers at others to make themselves feel better, Wii owners seem to do it alot more just because of how low selling the GC was. Over 3/4 of the time I see Wii thread it's regarding sales. Ironically enough, i liked the GC alot and don't care much for the Wii due to it's lack of quality titles up to this point.

Well then you will just have to learn to deal with it. It is a competition and everbody wants to be the winner. They will favor their favorites and bash the hated. Its this way with a lot of things in the world. Always remember competition. If you were the Ceo of Sony you would want your products to have better sales than the compitition. Its the same thing with costumers they want what they bought to be the best. Sure you might not have the best, but you want to belive it is the best.
