Sony hints at future third party downgrades for 360......OH NOES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Games to lead on PS3 as it's "easier to lead with the most powerful, both in terms of AI and graphics".

Speaking in a recent interview with VideoGamer.com, Sony Computer Entertainment UK managing director Ray Maguire has suggested that future multi-platform titles from third-parties will be led on PS3 and will have to be downgraded for systems with weaker processors.

Discussing the topic of third-party publisher support on the PS3, Maguire said: "I think we now have an install base which is big enough for any third party to want to develop for. Now the decision making part of development is which do you lead your development on? Is it easier to lead with the most powerful, both in terms of AI and graphics, i.e. PS3 and then just remove part of the functionality for the processors that aren't quite as strong? I would imagine that's very much part of the thought process now from a studio development point of view."

We're already seeing multi-format titles being lead on PS3, including the great looking Mirror's Edge from DICE, but judged on the released demo the game still looks marginally sharper on Xbox 360.

So Sony say that games developed for the PS3 will have to be downgraded to go to the 360. So they make Mirror's Edge for the PS3 but instead of being downgraded it looks marginally sharper on the 360. So where is the downgrade?

This just sound like Sony trying to over hype the PS3 again.

If FF13 (somehow) ends up being better on the 360, then Sony is in alot of trouble. But I think they'll be the same, with maybe a slight edge going to the PS3.

were we not hearing this last year? Supposedly all the 2008 titles would see PS3 being the better version....yet this comment is made right after Fallout 3 released lol.......

At some point we have to see it to believe it. I keep hearing how PS3 is more powerful ect.....where's the proof?

I have no doubt the PS3 has better graphics capablities than the 360

but, it just baffles me sony keeps promsing the future i want to live in the present and as of currently the ps3 is getting the worse version so whats the point of such potienal if your not going to use it?

So basically in order to get games out for both systems at the same time, games will use the PS3 as the lowest common denominator... thereby watering down the graphic potential had they been built for the Xbox 360 first...

it's nearly 2009 and Sony still hasn't done anything to prove the power of their system.

MGS4, rendered sub-HD and upscaled - Kojima complains about the limitations of the system. inferior multiplat after inferior multiplat even with games that were lead PS3 like Mirror's Edge (apparently the power of the PS3 can't handle teh 2x MSAA).

so tired of this rubbish. Sony should just put their money where their mouth is and start supporting some decent 3rd party exclusive titles - the time for talk and failed marketing slang is over.

if it WAS there we would have seen it by now - we haven't.

it's turned out that *gasp* the experts were right when they analyzed the hardware of both in 2005 and said 'it's a wash' - which means they're virtually the same, where one excels in something, the other is weak and vice-versa - but overall they are nearly identical given the weaknesses and strengths of both in terms of creating games.

i doubt we will get downgrades. i don't see a difference betweent he systems. iam2green

The ps3 version of mirror's edge is just as good as the 360 version, I downloaded the demo for both and they both have AA problems. You can see more detail in the ps3 version since it has a better contrast, thats about the only difference.

sorry mate, the verdict is in. 360 version has 2x MSAA. PS3 has nothing. this is clear when displayed on a large screen.

leading on the PS3 does nothing but assure the 2 will be close - definitely doesn't mean what this Sony spin is saying which is pure trash and and obvious lie. like i said, we're not stupid Sony :).
