I saw a thread the other day about how Sony was "greedy". The points in this thread were totally invalid, TC had said Sony launches a $600 system and claims they are greedy. Did you ever think of the fact that the PS3 takes $600+ to manufacture? Sony is constantly giving away free DLC for games like Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, and LittleBigPlanet. In fact, wouldn't Microsoft be the "greedy" company? With the original Xbox, you had to buy that little plug-in gadget to play DvD's that the system was already capable of playing. The most obvious point, paying for online multiplayer; where as Sony delivers it for free (for the time being) even though they most definitely need the money. I've nothing against Microsoft (Actually, I LOVE Halo) but if you want to point fingers, then you can't really say Sony is the greedy company, when they do everything in their power to keep their gamers happy :)

1) Nope. Sony is as greedy as any other company. They offer free content to make their console more attractive and win more money. 2) Castlevania Order of Ecclesia.

In a sense, I do agree with you, obviously companies top priority is money, but the original Xbox didn't survive for 10 years, and I believe it's because of the add ons, and everything Microsoft did to make it less appealing (Not purposely, of course) Though Sony could have been as ruthless as they wanted to, in terms of money, they could charge for Online play, over charge DLC, and everything else Microsoft did. Regardless, Microsoft is incredibly successful, so what they are doing is working, however I think Sony is keeping customer satisfaction in mind more so than Microsoft.

What? Anyone who spends 5 minutes researching this knows that MS killed the Xbox because they made a crap deal with Nvidia, and it was never going to be profitable as a result.

Sony will be as greedy as they can be without hurting their public image. Every company will. Oh, MS and Ninty have given away free stuff as well. They are just as "generous". :P

600$ was the most ridiculous price ever and Sony is currently paying a whole lot for that mistake. Nothing will ever justify that price as right.

All companies are "greedy". Its the point of business. The actual thing people should be concerned about is how well the company treats customers in the process.

Advocates for the PS3 need to stop saying that the PS3 is a great value. That is your opinion not a fact. In my opinion it is the opposite of great value to shoe-horn in blu-ray at the consumer's expense. Great value would be if every component in the PS3 was purely dedicated to game application, then I would be getting my monies worth. People need to understand that Sony didn't put a blu-ray drive in the PS3 for added value to the consumer, they did it so they could sit back and collect licencing fees into the foreseeable future from all the disc sales. All blu-ray has really done is secure last place for Sony this gen. If it's worth 200$ to you to play blu-ray discs in your VIDEOGAME console and that is valuable to you than by all means but to me its pure gullibility. You need to understand that it was far more important to Sony to get all those blu-ray players into peoples homes than it was to be a viable and valuable gaming platform. To Sony this generations #1 priority is blu-ray and videogames are only secondary to that.

Ermmm Blu-Ray drives alone are close to $200 still. On top of internal Wi-Fi adapter, plus the usual innards of a console means you are wrong. It's an expensive console to produce, as the 360 would be if it contained Blu-Ray and internal Wi-Fi.

It's pretty much common knowledge that Sony included Blu-Ray in the PS3 to give it an edge over the HD-DVD format. An edge that enabled the Blu-Ray Disc Association to win in which optical media the market backed.

Well, considering that if they didn't get your money, they'd go out of business and would be without a job. I'd imagine that any company naturally would want money. BRB, I'm about to go throw eggs at my local GoodWill building for being so greedy and only wanting people's stuff.

You call that successful? What is microsofts mission statement again? "To help people and businesses throughout the world realize their full potential." What a joke. I wonder what Ensemble thinks about that... They have to be one of the least successful companies ever created.

Let's be fair though, can those companies 'afford' to be generous?
Because, what i heard, they can't. Something to do with the investors or so.
I mean. There is no point in blaming a company for their monstrosities (and i know of some monstrosities that would turn You gothic) if they were led to do so from outside the company.

Well If the PS3 would cost 200 then we know it would be up top but look at it this way. Microsoft xbox is actually more expensive when buying the rest that is needed like a $100 wireless adaptor,$100 hard drive, and a 200 dollar HDDVD. PS3 comes with all of that so its reasonable. Besides the fact that Xbox live acutally makes the 360 more expensive than the PS3 after paying for it.

All companies care about is profit growth. However by doing generous things to there loyal consumers they increase there public imagine and cause the happy customers to come back again and again. So you see being kind pays off like for example psn being free.
