I just think 3d games is just not a good idea at this time.Right now their is a low percentage of people who own 3d-tvs,and there just won't be a high demand for them.I think they should wait until 3d becomes mainstream,if it ever does.No one is going to spend $2,500 to $3,000 dollars for a 3d-tv when they just bought a flat screen 1 or 2 years ago. Please tell me what you guys think about this.

you got to start sometime and its best to start as early as possible if you want to be a leader in the tech and media.

I see the 'novelty factor' of 3-D TV wearing off very quickly... I think the first two or three times you try it, it's cool but after that? Meh...

I don't get all of the hype for 3D gaming. Sure, it's probably pretty cool (haven't tried 3D yet) but it's not something you really interact with. As opposed to motion controls, which is a method of input and thus, and interactable component.

They are also wasting their time with a last place console and last place handheld but that doesn't seem to stop them.

It's not really even that early.Sony was obviously going to have to launch a line of Bravias with 3D, they have a game system capable of 3D with minimal drawbacks sitting on the shelves that they can use to try and move them, so why not? If you were a techie, and you were interested in a 3D TV, wouldn't be nice to know that it has some use other than to watch the latest Disney release.I don't think Sony is nuts enough to think this will be a big bullet point for the PS3 in the near term, but I would think this is more about selling high end TVs than selling PS3s.

It's going to be years before 3D takes off. Next Gen is going to have the power really to do 3d right.

the chances that when 3D is fully ready that £1500 TV you just bought for 3D won't be.

You may not physically interact with it, but your vision part of you, no? The jump from 2D to 3D gaming engines in the mid-90's was a big break through in immersion, yet it wasn't physical. This holds similar promise once perfected. Ever since I tried a primitive VR in an arcade in the early 90's, I've been waiting for virtual reality to become a non-lame reality. For that to ever happen, 3D games will need to be perfected, as will motion gaming. We've still got a long wait apparently, but I'd rather see baby steps then no steps at all.

from what i hear Killzone 3 was the only game on display at E3 that really showed good 3D effects

Crysis 2 and GT5 were both apparently pretty flat

I can't see 3D becoming standard in homes. I can understand paying an extra $5 on a movie ticket to see it in 3D but spending hundreds of dollars extra to see movies in 3D...nah. Plus, people will not want to have to put on those glasses to simply enjoy watching television. We'll see though.

So many people just bought new TVs in the last couple years between the digital changeover and HD delivery, I highly doubt people who two years ago spent $800-$1000 for a 40" TV in their living rooms are itching to do the same thing for 3D, when their last TV works fine. At the beginning of this generation most people knew there would be a crazy amount of new TVs sold with the government enforced changeover. This is niche stuff, it'll catch on slowly but surely, but I think your kidding yourself if you think this is becomes mass market phenomenon with adoption rates above 20% in the next 2-3 years.

On one hand, someone has to break the chicken-egg cycle of expensive technology with no content. On the other hand, by the time Sony gets the tech into homes at a mainstream price, their competitors will be ready to capitalize on it.

Sony just want to show that they can do 3D gaming in this whole 3D mania in Video/TV market. As people said before, Sony is not only one in 3D hype and if they don't want to be left behind they need to do 3D. Even MS with Toshiba starting 3D gaming deals

LOL. After three price drops, one of which was in it's first year! The difference being Sony had to win a format war and use the PS3 as the sacrificial lamb. 3D tv and gaming is going to require some serious price drops to even be considered just like HDTV and Blu-ray. Consumers have had enough.

why? doesn't really cost them any extra $$ to code software for 3D. 3D tv is actually pretty cheap compared to HD tv when they were first released. Obviously, current 3D tv are not for people that just bought HDtvs, that's just plain stupid, it's for people that still have standard definition tvs. My friend just bought his first HDtv and yes it was 3D. It's a samsung 55" 3D for $1950, not bad. I bought my 46" HDTV 2 years ago for $1750, and that was pretty cheap.

I can see myself potentially owning one in a couple years, but I agree that the gaming community isn't ready for 3D currently. Although at least the option will be there and ready when consumers can take advantage of it.

We're not forced to play in 3D. It's an option. I don't think all games will be 3D only. It's for the gaming enthusiast, like me, hehe. Im pretty excited about trying this out, especially for GT5. Im pretty sure I wont be using 3D much, but at least its there if I feel like playing in 3D. Im just really excited for the PS3 lineup... GT5, KZ3, INF2, etc.

Also wasn't this the same argument people made with Bluray? About how it will never win against HD DVD and how DVD is fine as it is? Honestly, I don't see the point but if I do get a 3D tv one day, whatever.

My mom tried it at Best Buy like 2 days ago and she called me and told me how it's gimmicky lol. Ah that gave me a good chuckle.:P

This is more of a push for their tv division than their console division. Just like blu ray on the ps3 was more about winning the format war than winning the console war.
