Is this the fastest it's been shut down? I 'm not big on sports but I know madden 12 servers (4 years old) is still online. Is this a shit move just to push MLB 15? Discuss!

Perhaps it isn't being used....ever think of that? I'm not claiming to have their stats but you don't know the traffic either. So this thread is lacking.
the game only sold half a million. The online must be dead.
But these games always score good, so i wonder why people don't buy them? I always thought there were a lot of people interested on baseball but it seems that is mostly basketball and futbol.
honestly nobody really cares about baseball anymore, its a dying sport mostly supported by long time fans who are growing old and don't play video games. NFL is by far the most popular followed by basketball (in the US) and worldwide its soccer (futbol) baseball is already a boring sport and the games are even more boring. I usually go to a few games a year because i get free tickets and i go to drink and eat peanuts lol
You get what you paid for. No seriously, there's old ass 360 $1 dollar indie games that nobody bought and you could still play online today. PSN is the saddest place for these online games, whether big like this franchise or small. So there's no excuse for this crap.
@gago-gago:
You could say the same for many PS3 games. This is more of an issue with yearly sports games.

The online IS dead. Couldn't find a game the last time I played it which was probably a month ago so it should be understandable why they are doing this.
@Gue1: Because it's kind of boring to play Baseball video games...i mean i used to own some MLB game in 2002 i guess for the PC and it was cool to play a season and all, but after a while...it just get's really, really boring, meanwhile Soccer games, NFL games and NBA games are fun to play and even more fun with friends, so i can only imagine the boredom to play a Baseball game online...Yikes!

Nope the issue here is PSN and Sony games. This isn't the first time they shut online down for their games. The last one was not a sports game but were Sony games. I don't recall any non-Sony game that shut down their online. There's a reason why old Madden and old Fifa games are still up and running, because Sony and PSN doesn't control them.

Metal Gear Online and Red Dead Redemption are non-Sony games that shut down their online and they are the only ones. It's not "a Sony thing".
Anyway, I find all sports boring. Baseball is more fun to play than watch and the NFL is just gay.
Was surprised when I read this, I don't recall a console game losing online support so quickly after release. I don't know all the details behind this decision, but even if the game is not popular what about the people who bought it recently and knew online play would be there. Oh well, this does not affect me but I hope it does not become a trend that's all.
@LJS9502_basic: even if only 2 people are playing regularly it's pretty fucked up to cut off the service a year after release of the game. No idea how you could blindly defend Sony here.
I agree. The online for games should never expire. Every game should be run by Sony or MS and should only require that a build of the games net server code be run on a cloud server. When the game isn't being used, it should eat virtually no resources, since the server doesn't need to dedicated.
A consumer should be able to sell back a game to the publisher (up to 5 years or so) for a prorated price when the game's multiplayer is discontinued.
What in the hell are people paying $50 a year for on PS+ then? Isn't that $50 to float network costs? So why are we paying for this garbage to float these network costs if you independently shut game networks down?
People are so blind, Sony is the most anti-consumer company in the industry yet people keep soaking up their crap...
Microsoft would never do something like this, this is horrible...

idk about all that but if you buy a game where one of the main bullet points is online then the online should at least work for a few years, not until the new game comes out the next year. even EA isn't that fucked up

LOL you really do go to any length to defend Sony, even if it makes you look an idiot in the process.
Did it ever occur to these retards at Sony to move games which they feel they should no longer host networks for to integrate P2P network functionality into the games so players could host matches on their own network connections...
No of course not, that would make too much sense, better to just kill games entirety....
Idiots...
For The Gamers
Gotta make that money son!!! Make the Baseball fans buy the new one LOL.

Bookmarking this. Man you claim to not be a cow but you sure defend PS a lot. Cutting the online a year later would be blasted by most for any game. I can fire up NHL 13 and still play online. We all know they are doing it to shoehorn people into the MLB15 game.

if he's not a cow he's the worst unbiased poster of all time.

Somebody cried after they got hit hard the first time LOL
Anyway I agree with others on baseball just not translating as well in video games. I think the last time I did a whole season in a baseball game was Tony Larussa Baseball on the Sega Genesis. The game just doesn't have the constant motion of Hockey, Soccer, or basketball and Football has great impact speed and contact. These have been fun to play in video games to me at least. Well all but basketball. That shit is just a boring, I'll check in at the end sport to me.

Its one thing I agree with tormentos on. It doesn't matter what you own, it matters who you defend more often than not. Anything can be rationalized from a fiscal standpoint in business. Hypothetical: If MS was doing this to online for Titanfall just before Titanfall 2 was coming out, it would be open season here even if the online was barren.
bu bu Sony love gamers long time... in the wallets more like it. The pricks pulled the same shit with GT5 to move everyone on to GT6. I know GT5 must have had an online community.
y'know what kills me about this shit.
you people were balls deep in dedicated servers and talking it up nonstop and now here we have a gen where they listened and nothing works for shit.
if all these games that could be peer to peer were still peer to peer they would at least be working somewhat and not be a generation where server side goes down and you can't play at all or it can just be turned off one day when they no longer make money on keeping it going.

Actually Master Chief Collection holds that record LOL

How long have those games been out before online was shut down?
How long has MLB14 been out?
Granted I agree people are being too reactionary. I'll take people's word here in that it's already basically dead and nobody should be upset by this move. I just think it's somewhat unsettling knowing any game's online support can be pulled within a year.
