Sony is definetly feeling it this gen. The wii and the 360 are ahead in sales and software sales and, althought the PSP is promising a "come back" this year, it has been slowing down for quite a while since last year, being dominated by the DS in all aspects.

It would make sense for a company like sony to try and get as much marketplace as they can before its too late and take again the position they had in the last two gens. But the job has proved to be quite difficult for them. Seems like some Sony representative are loosing their cool. Check this out.

wow...

I'll be honest, I still can' believe how the creators of the AMAZING PS2 aren't reigning and owning everyone. It's sad, but I still enjoy the PS3, it's just I wish Sony was like it used to be.

I think they're doing fine.

Oh, and the PSP hasn't been slowing down. But if it has, have you seen the already announced line up for 2009-2010?

PSP line-up for 09/10 is really impressive IMO, from Birth by Sleep to Dissidia to the eventual Parasite Eve, the PS3 has a ton of great titles out, with several upcoming I'm looking forward to, the Wii and 360 don't have much for the rest of the year I'd care about, so as a gamer, Sony isn't losing it.

I hardly think PS3 owners are affected by this with the plethora of good looking games coming. PSP owners, well, I suppose some are having fun with the backlog :P

This is my very 1st post, but I have been lurking this site for quite sometime. Why do you 360 honks love to make mountains out of molehills? The DSi does apply to insignificant groups, just like the Wii. And it will be even more true once the PSP2 comes out.

I think Sony is doing pretty good to be in dead last. They aren't doing bad until they go bankrupt.

Well, it is pretty arrogant to try to insult the DS, when the psp really hasn't really realeased anything interesting for a while. I just wish Sony would come out with games, instead of blowing smoke. I could use something new to play!

Man I wish I had money. Its so hard to choose between a console game or handheld. I want prinny, but that would effect me getting another game on my PS3 later on. Im happy support poped up this year for the psp. Since last year was just bad.

yes, i got a bit caried away... but think about it... sony has not even started releasing its big names... i mean, how is joe public gonna react when GT5 gets released.... the 360 really does seem to be aging badly... and, in contrast, the ps3 has an exciting future.

yeah i think that's the main point. The 360 is a good system but it doesn't seem to have the lasting power of the PS3 at this point (things could change at E3 but i doubt it). Whether microsoft will put most of its attention towards the new xbox in a couple years or what, i just feel that ultimately when you look back at this generation (5-6 years from now), i'd be shocked if the PS3 hasn't outsold the 360 by a resonable margain.

If you mean sales-wise: not. Game-wise: is completely subjective.

the only thing that m$ have going for them is that 200 dollar arcade model. I"m willing to bet you that if they took individual sales stat from each different sku (the arcade, pro, and elite), the ps3 sales would be dangerously close to the pro (if not above it), and i know that the ps3 dwarfs the elite in sales, EASY.

Even if that's true, how's that relevant? The the PS3 is outselling one of the 360 models doesn't change anything.

all sony needs to do is drop the price. It's not like the ps3 NEVER outsold the 360 in NA. As a matter of fact, the 360 didn't start outselling the ps3 again until the price drop

oh yes, Sony is doing sooo bad... That's why they've managed to outsell the Wii two months in a row in Japan... Face it people, times are about to change. Unlike Microsoft or Nintendo, Sony has some heavy hitters lined up for 2009. Get used to it lol

The question is not what Sony needs or not, the questions are if they will can/will do it on time, or how MS would respond. As a matter of fact, the 360 is profitable, the PS3 not. That gives MS a huge advantage over Sony on the price war.

Don't bother. People seem to think the PS3 is some magic machine that can defy simple logic. There's no reasoning with them.

they didn't go the way of dreamcast, and is receiving better exclusives than the competition. Also, most - all of the top tier dev haven't abandoned the ps3 = the ps3 is doing just fine

Yeah. For what I heard, Sony fans were expecting the PS3 (a $200 more expensive console) to outsell the 360 (around 6 millions advantage) only four months after launch  I guess we must be happy they have changed to "until the end of the gen".

yeah, because the 360 is showing age already. As the ps3 get more and more quality exclusives. The 360 last great exclusive was Gears 2, in which THAT game underscored it's prequel. M$ better have a VERY stellar showing at E3 in order to keep hope alive

Do you realize that;s nearly impossible?

i don't see it that way. I look at it like this. Microsoft 99.9% more likely to come out w/ their new system before sony. And that will affect the 360 sales because people will be buying the new system. Where sony would still only have one console on the market. It's sort of like when the 360 got the year long head start and was able to build its total sales because the ps3 wasn't out. I think the PS3 will get that year back (maybe 2 yrs depending on when Sony want to release the ps4). The only problem is that when the 360 first came out the PS3 wasn't out at all, and although the xbox will have a new system, the 360 will still be on shelves and still selling somewhat. I'm not saying in a couple years from now i'm talking well into next generation, when nobody cares about the PS3 and 360 anymore, if you look at the total worldwide sales i'd be shocked if the PS3 hasn't outsold the 360 by a reasonable margain. just my opinion

Sony is doing great in Japan, and i think that will follow in North America. Lems are just too stubborn to admit that the ps3 really is a great system with amazing exclusives and a LOT going for it.

I laugh at you thinking I'm a lemming but anway. You think a pricedrop is gonna save Sony just cause they got some good games? MS has a 7 million console advantage and are PROFITING off of each 360 sold. Sony can't say the same, they are DOWN YTD this year compared to last year. You think they will make back a 7 million disadvantage in 2 - 3 years with MSs current situation better than theirs? Don't waste my time with games, we are talking sales here so stay relevant to the topic.

[QUOTE="IronBass"] Yeah. For what I heard, Sony fans were expecting the PS3 (a $200 more expensive console) to outsell the 360 (around 6 millions advantage) only four months after launch  I guess we must be happy they have changed to "until the end of the gen".IronBass

yeah, because the 360 is showing age already. As the ps3 get more and more quality exclusives. The 360 last great exclusive was Gears 2, in which THAT game underscored it's prequel. M$ better have a VERY stellar showing at E3 in order to keep hope alive

Do you realize we are talking about sales , don't you?

well, all i think the ps3 needs is a price drop. It might not beat the 360, but it'll put it in competitve standing eventually

actually, we're talking about SONY losing it - and games ARE relevant to the topic. No games = losing, Games = not losing - you seem to be quite subjective with what you think relevance is.

Don't bother. People seem to think the PS3 is some magic machine that can defy simple logic. There's no reasoning with them.

ActicEdge

and i bet you that you're one of those people who thhought that m$ had a better year with exclusives in 08:lol:

There's no reasoning with lems. They tout sales, only to be getting beat by the wii. It's lems who are teh blind

Don't waste my time with games, we are talking sales here so stay relevant to the topic.

yeah, We ust stay on topic because SALES is where lems are winning right now and is the only thing that looks to be going strong for them. They can have their sales. Us cows will take the games

Old, and Sony is doing just fine, with an onslaught of game announcements this year. It's been rocky up until now, but they are really managing to pull it together.

ermacness

3 billion in losses and counting. What on Earth makes you think they're doing "just fine"?

they didn't go the way of dreamcast, and is receiving better exclusives than the competition. Also, most - all of the top tier dev haven't abandoned the ps3 = the ps3 is doing just fine

This isn't a dig at the system's software library, but come on. Microsoft may have accrued a colossal £4 billion in losses last gen, but they are one of the few firms on the face of the Earth that can get away with it and on top of that, they managed to establish a userbase.

All Sony have done this gen is lose their marketshare and lose their third party support. Those "top tier" devs you're talking about are mostly first party Sony developers. The exceptions to this rule have been Sega and Konami who release a PS3 exclusive once in a blue moon.

you're quick to discredit Sony's first party developers and close third party developers - Uncharted, Killzone 2 and Resistance 1/2 have been some of the best games this gen.

Well the post I'm quoting is about sales so what do you want me to say? If you want to discuss games go make a thread and we'll talk to you there. Heck if you do it now I'll be up for a debate.

who need a 3rd party exclusive??!?!?!?!! Do you not see what kind of damage Sony's 1st party games are doing in terms of quality??!?!?!! Most of those 3dr party dev that have jumped ship have had sequels to underscore their ps2 exclusive prequels

no, it'll get flooded with blind lems and the whole thread will go south. Trust me
