The article does not state that anywere, but I believe you for now.

I'm still not clear on what the cloud space can be used for aside from game saves, because 3gb just for that is way overkill.

Why not? My plus was active till the 12th of December so I just bought the one year with 90 day bonus today and now I am paid up until the 12th of March 2015. It adds on to your current subscription.

PS+ is going to suck ass at first, but when it matures, MS have to think of a suitable response. Once it gains traction they have no chance against it.

Edit: I got it after xmas because it had a 25% discount for 1 year, i guess that paying normal price and getting 25% extra ends up being the same thing.

Edit 2: Couldn't resist... and couldn´t risk getting to December and having no discount this year (with PS4 out late Nov, no discount for sure!)... so there goes 49,99!! PSN+ till 29/03/15 yay!

The cloud space is just for game saves. It's overkill for me. I think it's mainly going to be useful for game industry people who regularly play like 4 different versions of games on 10 different consoles and are forced to have dozens of saves for picture/video and also play like every game released. I wouldn't be surprised at all if PS+ loses a lot of its value, for the reasons you stated. 

Most people who buy a PS4 will buy PS+ just to play multiplayer, so there isn't a huge incentive for Sony to be giving out a lot of good free games in addition to that. They've already got you. My guess is that they'll still give out some free games, but it isn't going to be anything like it was on the PS3. 

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

That partnership Sony made with Rackspace for servers has to be paid by someone...

While your arguement isn't incorrect i don't pay for ps+ for online MP, i do it for "free" games that keep me from buying new ones whenever i get bored of my current ones...

This sucks thou :/ But i understand that giving away a full free game for just about everyone was a bit over the top... i still wish this was handled like MS handled the Fifa bundle, a free game for pre-orders seems like a suitable reward for the costumers who banked their trust in your product day 1

I saw it coming before the Sony reveal in Feb. Cow didn't want to believe it of course.

I'm still wondering whatever happened to the "PSN will always be free, we'll never pay for PSN" crowd. I know, people, that they aren't charging for anything but the multiplayer. . but if you magically believe that Microsoft will, in the middle of the Xbox One's lifespan, change back to all its loathed policies, then surely Sony will eventually expand what requires PS+.AncientDozer

That's how it is on the PS3 anyway. Install data has to be on the hardware itself, and I personally would not want my downloaded titles on the cloud.

It is a shame that they went that direction though, and it also doesn't really make a huge amount of sense.

At least they aren't completely stupid and requiring PSN+ in order to access Hulu+ and Netflix. So if someone is not at all into Call of Duty or Battlefield type shooters, they will still be able to enjoy their movie streaming services as well as single player games and not have to add any other meaningless subscription. 

I still don't really understand why games would arbitrarily be placed behind a paywall. This gen if you play Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 3, you are using EA servers. If you play Call of Duty, you are using peer-to-peer matchmaking. So why are we paying for Xbox live? Unless Sony and Microsoft are taking over 100% of the servers for games (which I doubt, even with the cloud PR stuff I doubt EA is going to want to let Microsoft "run" everything on the server side) - it won't make any more sense next gen.

However at least Sony isn't cheap like Microsoft. you get what you pay for with PSN+ (tons of content). With Live you get next to nothing.
