Nintendo seem to have gotten the right idea and had a grasp on the future of gaming. Mixing family fun with hardcore...

Are Sony and Microsoft selling out their HARDCORE GAMER image for a move to family fun time with motion controls or is it a clever move?

What do you guys think?

I don't think either Move or Kinect will top 15 million but I was wrong so many times my predictions are pointless. Anyway, Sony really is doing the Nintendo way so they are getting the right idea. I'm kinda disappointed that MS used up good resources like Rare for lackluster games. We'll see though, I initially thought the same thing with Wii Fit and it ended up being really fun. uhh... oh yeah back to replying to this thread: Smart move for sure, all consoles have a great line up for both the hardcore and the casual market.

I think that Sony are possibly doing it better than MS. They are offering Move as an option, not pushing people to use it. Kinect, though an option, their titles are Kinect only and don't offer traditional controls, granted could you play those games with traditional controls. Nintendo, many believe they did it right but they did force people in many cases to use the motion controller when it wasn't the best controller scheme for the game. Time will tell I am afraid.

Well as I don't know about you but I am a Wii owner and not ALL games use motions controls in a way that you're on your feet jumping about. Mario Kart for example offers 4 different ways of playing. I play using the nunchuck and controller. Doesn't lose its fun and the comfort of sitting there holding a Wii controller naturally is a lot higher than playing a controller where your hands are close together clutching a controller...but thats my opinion XD

Family fun with hardcore? What 3rd party games are really doing this successfully? I just want to find more GOOD games for the Wii, like the new Zelda and Metriod.

Both Sony and M$ have had games geared towards family for a while. I don't see how Sony is putting not only casual but hardcore games out for the Move makes it lose it's hardcore status. As for M$, yeah - petting a dumb lion is pretty stupid, but they always come through with good games.

but don't you think that people saying Nintendo are the worst are just ignorant...Nintendo have been leading the race for a while and are now just proving it.

It's a clever move. They're trying to bridge the gap between "casual" and "hardcore" (for lack of better terms). It's a huge market, which Nintendo has shown this generation.

you really think so?...out of all 3...I think the Wii is doing the best...being families closer for family fun and also including the hardcore gamer in games that are more accessible and fun..

i dont consider the wii a hardcore platform anymore. though they def. have the casual market, they dont have hardcore. ms and sony are doing what nintendo is also doing... grabbing hold of the opposite market. though personally i like ms and sony will have an easier time with it

I think sony went out of there way to make the move seem more hardcore while MS made kinect look casual.

I think nintendo can be hardcore but you have to look beyond the shovelware I had more fun with speedracer wii then I ever did with need for speed.

Kinectimals looks pretty cool theres a rumor of a stage based around old yeller

I think they'll mess around with it and forget about the hardCORE games for a while... screwing themselves over. I hope they continue to "fuel" the CORE game market like Gears of War series. At this point, I only see Fable and Gears of War coming out this year and next. But as far as any other franchise goes, I do not see anyone else leading the front. Bungie is going Activision with Reach being their last Xbox 360 game. And PS3 keeps dishing out exclusive after exclusive.. although Insomniac is going multiplatform. Eh.. we'll see I guess.
