Have at least some hope on the PS3!
People said the same thing for the Gamecube.
But we had hope.
And now look at the runaway success that is the Wii.

I think you mean have some hope for PS4.
I think the Final Fantasy series will be a huge boost to Sony personally. Would me to give an example as of why? Alright then.
After the Ace Combat series went excluively to the 360 how much of the japanese market bought it just for that game? The leap was about 10,000 in one month because of it's release. That's incredible. To make such an impact because of one game in a market like that that is known for their dislike of the 360.
Now add Final Fantasy into that, a well known and loved PS3 exclusive. By the time it is released the Ps3 will be selling about equal in price to the 360 in Japan I would suspect (maybe a few thousand yen higher?). Regardless I don't think we can count the PS3 out of the battle yet.

Nah, PS4 will still suck.
It's a regular cycle.
Just like Nintendo
First console: GREAT SUCCESS
Second console: GREAT SUCCESS
Third console: Success
Fourth console: Survived
Fifth console: GREAT SUCCESS
Just repeat that with Sony consoles.
The PS5 will be great!
Yup PS2 killed the gamecube though :P this Generation is getting crazier.Ahh well i better start gearing up this hoiliday season so i can be ready for next years E3.;)Have at least some hope on the PS3!

Nintendo was never bankrupt.
Nintendo was the only competitor last gen that actually got a profit from their consoles.
And that's considering it was $100 cheaper than the PS2 and three times stronger.

Sony dosent need the PS3 to make money, they have other sources that give them more profit then games do, if PS3 flops it wont be enough to stop them from making a PS4, money is not an issue here.

Exactly.
That's what powered their last two Playstations.
They had their game profit, their TV profit, their movie profit, their music player profit, and the rest.
But when the console costs a lot more, and games sell less, Sony loses market share on TV's, if Sony's movies flop at the box office, and the iPod is still around, the ways to get money will be smaller and smaller.

Money may not be an issue here, but do you think sony likes throwing all this money around and geting nothing in return??
I'm not saying theres not going to be a PS4 but don't try to act like sony not makeing money isn't a bad thing.
sony will probably learn the most from this gen than either nintendo or microsoft
which is a wild card per say, everytime a company has success in something they try to emulate that for everything else... so, the xbox 3 could be just the xbox 360 more powerful but hardly a leap from the xbox 1 to xbox 360, and whatever games are popular this gen will be aimed for next gen... for nintendo the extreme casual market is their prime target, so their next console will be more of the same, maybe *maybe* more powerful but somehow doubt it will be ultra extreme powerful but you never know they may try to cut into the hardcore market since attach rate on the wii SUCKS... then there's sony, who jumped too far with the ps3 from the ps2 and had a dismal software launch lineup, unproven and expensive hardware, and high cost... if the next gen started tomorrow (barring what happens the rest of this gen) then sony should make a launch console of $400 with proven easy-programming hardware (and 1gb of ram w/ very high bus speed)... and not focus so much on stuff like living room integration, and a unified community system but keep the dedicated servers for sure and add a few more options... as for format, they'd probably still go with blu-ray, but dunno... but really, simplification and more powerful proven hardware (for the next gen), streamlining the PSN, cheaper launch, and most importantly a focus on software above all else and i'd imagine they'd do just fine[QUOTE="Mizarus"][QUOTE="Willy105"][QUOTE="Solid_Max13"][QUOTE="Mad_Rhetoric"]one thing is certain, theres going to be no ps4

Are you sure the ps2 didn't give any profit to sony last gen?
I see the future of the ps3 being very dim. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 may move some units but will not save it. With the selling of the cell development department and the "blu-ray stalemate" it's not looking good for the playstation brand. We could see playstation 3.5 in 2 years.Nin360
so tru sounds like gamecube and xbox. games move units be they failed. Sony is down and out.

The games for the PS2 gave Sony profit (and a healthy amount of it).
The PS2 itself however was not designed to be profitable.

As a gamer I agree with your logic but you must remember some important facts. Ninty always made money from their console sales which meant they were still in the green regardless if they botched thier hold on the console market. Sony on the other hand is still in the "losing per console" phase with the PS3 and the R&D for the Cell is pretty much fertilizer now. Sony better hope their Tvs and cameras can keep them afloat to invest in another home console.
Game On...

FF does move systems yes, but its not consistent and after it wears off the PS3 will be back to having sluggish sales. Look at the PSP for example, when FF:CC came out in Japan the system sold a lot. Much more than the DS, now look at things. Its back to the way it was before. So its true FF and MGS won't save the system, just give it a small temporary boost in sales.

It's not like Sony needs to be spending every waking minute developing the cell, and most PS3 users don't use it exclusively to watch blu-ray movies. AND PS3 CAN read HD-DVD.
