Sony's readying a marketing campaign worth £750,000 to push the PlayStation Move - which it will unleash after it's hit the shelves.

It's all part of the platform holder's belief that Move won't be a pre-order record-breaker - but will enjoy sustained success over a longer period.

"It is about creating that massive event spike during the launch week, pushing it out to new audiences and continuing on last year's 'The Game Is Just The Start' campaign," Sony's UK marketing manager Adam Boita told MCV.

"Pre-orders are always important, but Move is not necessarily a pre-order product. It's not like Halo or World of Warcraft expansions, where people want to get hold of it day one."

"It is an evergreen product. And whereas pre-orders are very important, it is not necessarily the key focus."

Sony won't have been too bothered then when purchase intent for the PlayStation Move was gauged pretty low back in June.

Link.

So... day two?

Id agree if it was a console releaes and they can weather the storm, but an add on can't afford to stagnate or it just dies immediately. It needs to succeed relatively quickly.

Heres hoping both Kinect and Move fail miserably so they can stop wasting their money on terrible motion gaming.

The Move like i have always susspected will be a slow burner for quite a while to come and i believe that Sony 1st Party alone can make it an interesting Platform

agreed. maybe MS would get behiend thier old IP's then (console ones, they already said they're looking to revive PC ones- Rare would then be put on core games) DOWN WITH KINECT!

Most sales for both Kinect and Move will come during November and December, so it's obvious that they'll really push marketing during those months. Because Kinect comes out in November, it's easy to just get it then. Move launches this month, so people who are buying it as a gift for someone else won't just buy it right away.

PS Move could have easily been a big pre-order product if only they had a launch lineup 100 times stronger than the one they have... Like really, if you're going to put nothing but crappy and sub-par games to its launch lineup, of course no one is going to care about buying it right away.

I didn't know you were an expert on this stuff. Of course neither will fail, and why do want them to fail? It's not like they're making motion gaming a standard like the Wii(which seems to have down well). It's just another way you can play a game.

i'd rather have Move than Kinect, 'cause at least with Move, they support bothhardcore and casual games. i mean, Move doesn't only have Wii ripoffs, it also has games like Echochrome 2 (which i think is freaking brilliant). if you have a platform that has that kind of games, plus being able to play Killzone 3, and Dead Space Extraction, LittleBigPlanet 2 and inFamous 2 plus casual games, then i'd go with Move.

where are those people that had the wildest imaginations about Halo Reach being playable with Kinect? they were talking about voice recognition in Reach, just like what they saw in their own dreamlands. lol. get real. Kinect doesn't have the fidelity of Move and Wii. and it's for casual and purely casual crowd. we all know Kinect presentation at E3 and the one with ponchos sucked big time, but lems are so desperate they also want Move to fail. lol. let Kinect fail by itself. why would you want to bring Move down, too? just because it followed Wii's business model? lulz.

Like at least for us, the people who post on these video game forums - Sony could have easily gotten us all excited about their new product and start pre-ordering it, if they at least had some awesome looking launch games for it. But the reality is, right now the launch lineup looks like a bunch of games we've already played on the Wii and shovelware. Of course none of us are enthralled by that.

Addonshave historically failed, and a slow start doesn't help it at all.

I never stated i was an expert just gave an opinion. Calm down and move on.

If Kinect and Move are wildly succesful there is no doubt in my mind that Sony and MS will go down that route and just collect easy money from the casuals.

So... day two?

Sounds like Major Damage Control to me. Not a day one purchase? Maybe because pre-orders aren't even over 500K? Or even 300K. i didn't pre-order it. I did pre-order KINECT however, as I can't wait to try the voice recognition and hand motion menu navigation. Also want to try Kinect Sports and Dance Central. I could use the exercise. Anyway, we all already expected that the MOVE and KINECT would not be big sellers this holiday. I was curious as to why I didn't see any advertising for the MOVE though. So you start advertising for a product days AFTER it launches. That's smart Sony. lol!!

PC's spike and then you have to upgrade them. lol!! Consoles you can pretty much play for ever if you choose to. I still have my original NES with R.O.B. I even have my Turbographix and everything still works great. I don't think there's anything to get. The only you said that makes sense is "consoles aren't like PC.". That's a blessing for most gamers.

Move (and Kinect) is a "wait-until-a-price-cut-before-purchasing" kind of thing. And that's only if they release decent games.

It comes out in what 6 days and here in the UK there has been no real push to market it most games stores and places like HMV have no mention of Move at all i was actually wondering if it was releasing in the UK this month. Now im not saying Kinect is better but ive seen a lot more ads and stuff out in stores for pre order and it seems to of been marketed much better than move.

Yeah, I don't see any killer must-have launch titles for Move, but it looks like it might be interesting to play with at first and then just wait for the more interesting titles to come. And if you already have a PS3, the bundle will only set you back by 100 bones. Not too much of a risk really.

Seems like Sony is taking a page from the fanboys. If Move does great they will say...yeah it did better than expected. If it bombs, then we get the...oh yeah we weren't really into it anyway. We never really hyped it anyway.

So... day two?

"It is an evergreen product."

LordQuorthon

Step 1: Use the same business terms as Nintendo.

Step 2: ???

Step 3: PROFIT!

lol... I was going to comment on that whole "evergreen" thing. Next Sony will be saying "expanded audience" and "blue-ocean":P

[QUOTE="HelloMoto56"]

[QUOTE="mitu123"] 360 was good from day one. PS3 and the Move weren't.

Fizzman

by what standard?

pricey Xbox Live or the fantastic AE launch games?

360 launched with several AAE games and a AAAE. 360's launch line up was pretty darn good.

The 360's launch wasn't good, but it was much better than the PS3's. I'm sure most people who played PDZ think that it isn't anything special. I haven't played any other launch game except for PGR3, which is pretty good, so I can't comment on the rest.
