They won't, it would sell like hotcakes but they'd never do it. PS3 is a Blu-Ray player, remember? Games are just a feature.A "Core" version of the PS3, without the BR drive, and sell it for 20-30% less. They could then also make a seperate BR drive add-on for it that you can buy seperately.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Part of what makes the PS3 a PS3 is the Blu-ray drive. With its capacity, it is and will be a huge attribute in gaming. Plus, all of the current games are made on blu-ray. How could you play them without the drive? Very moronic post.A "Core" version of the PS3, without the BR drive, and sell it for 20-30% less. Yeah, you can't have the PS3 without Blu-ray... or as I call it, Beta Max pt. 2.BlakeBroussardI love the BEtaMax arguement. Do you know that BetaMax is far superior to VHS? That the general public was too stupid to see it and they chose VHS. That BetaMAx is still used at every major TV news organization? That if you compare the blu-ray to BetaMax you are actually complimenting it? I didn't think so. Ignorance, pure ignorance.

If he'd tried to make Sony fanboys angry he would just have brought up February NPD numbers.More like "Sony needs to make a time machine".
Forget blu ray. Focus more on the graphics, controller and online. Get them shipped on time and make everyone happy :)
Well, that's what they should have done :(

So, you want to buy a PS3 that can't play games? :|
You do understand the games of PS3 are on Blu Ray discs right? How would you play games if it has no Blu Ray player?
i can watch HD movies via Xbox live without a HD-DVD player if i want to. who needs a new format? its still on a damn disk. Disks are not the future. HD content over internet is. imo. we will see though.

Who needs a new format??? Thats what the first devs said when the PS2 dropped. They made their first few games on CDs like the Saturn but then games started getting bigger and for all those GTA fans, it wouldnt have been around if not for the "unneeded" bigger format. only long RPGs and such would require disk swaping. thats perfectly fine. but most games are becoming more focused on online play. Personally i usually skip alot of the single player part of games and take it right online as soon as i get it. i jump into single player from time to time.
you are right. MS dislikes HD-DVD and other HD formats, they've(MS) always made it clear that they are aiming for online. the HD-DVD add on, was just because of PS3. wrong. the difference between DVD and VHS was huge. the format change was inevitable and it made sense. but whats wrong with DVD now? it isnt going anywhere. they are very cheap and most DVD players are under 100 bucks. they can also up convert to up to 1080p. i know thats not true HD but good enough for ALOT of people. what happened to music? why carry a bunch of CDs when you have it all sored on a Mp3 player.
What about on-demad. you can order movies in HD without stand alone players. the diffrence between HD-DVD/BR and DVD is not enough to justify its price.
I'm betting most of the games would fit fine on 1-2 DVDs, at least for the next 1-2 years. And like I said, Sony could sell a BR drive add-on for the core system.
I hope Sony have started work on the PS4, or a least a PS3 v2.0 - becuase the way things are going, the PS3 will be dead by summer 09 if they don't do something.....
....and "Home" isnt the answer.

On demand HD movies will hurt movie rentals not movie purchases. People will still wanna own movies and watch them more then once without paying twice for them. As for upconverting DVD players they do not upconvert to 1080p. Do you think people will spend money on a HDTV to enjoy non HD movies. No they wont. You also forget that as HDTVs get popular, which they will, and blu ray movies start selling more and more which they are, movie studios will slowly drop support for DVD and move to blu ray. Why you ask? Because movie studios love to double dip. They all have solid hit movies that they wanna rerelease and sell them again and are running out of "extra footage" to sell on DVD so HD resolution will be the selling point. You do realize it tood DVD like three years after the launch of the PS2 to beat out VHS rentals. Did that hurt the chances of DVDs to win. Blu rays movies are gonna continue to grow in popularity as HDTVs become more and more standard. HDTVs are getting cheaper and cheaper and many places hardly stock SDTVs anymore. Again it doesnt have to penetrate every single house, just the houses of movie purchasers which it is doing quickly. Blu ray will be fine with the wait just like DVD was. 2009 is not that far away, and neither is 2012. Hell cable is supposed to switch over to HD programming in 2009 I believe as well. Thats gonna another push for the purchase of an HDTV as well as the dropping prices. The truth is the rate of people buying HDTVs is only increasing, not decreasing. And you forget the U.S. isnt the only place that buys movies. I believe Japan has like 60% of their homes with HDTVs. It will be the same here not too soon and Blu ray will be ready when consumers are just like DVD.[QUOTE="Javy03"][QUOTE="2scoopsofempty"][QUOTE="Javy03"][QUOTE="2scoopsofempty"]Who needs a new format??? Sorry but in three years a new format isnt gonna come out and just take out Bluray. Currently it has the highest resolution available for TVs and that hasnt even become standard yet. What could another format offer, even higher, doubt that, it would be useless until everyone has 1080p and is ready to go higher, right now 720p TVs are the majority and 1080ps are gettin more popular and cheaper. Blu ray does both those well. No other format will come and take away movie studio support from Blu ray, if HD DVDs couldnt with its lead and decent numbers last year what makes you think Sonys highest box office hit movie studios will drop Blu ray. See thats the key, they make the movies and the format. Please Log In to post.
