When the technology is there to not have to wear glasses, why on EARTH would you still push for the technology that REQUIRES them?VideoGameGuy
Because it only works on handhelds, as the screen is in a fixed position in front of you, all the time, if you move your head too close/too far away, you won't see the 3D effect. You have to sit relatively still. For big TVs you'd had to sit on the same position in front of the TV, and only you could experience the 3D effect nicely, not people around you.
It just doesn't work. Sony promoted 3D on PS3 because they need content in order to sell Sony 3D TVs, as Sony is not only about gaming, they want to sell their TVs too.

True. It's like Xbox 360, Microsoft could've EASILY made the new Xbox 360 have its HDD ports SATA designed like the PS3/laptop drives but why do that when you can just charge people £99 for a 120gb HDD only manufactured by themselves and a SATA drive 120gb is less than half of that?
Greed, cost-cutting and I don't know, something else naughty.
wait, doesn't like 77.5% of nintendos entire staff wear glasses?
i really don't blame them for being down on them now that i understand the motivation behind it.

Fanboys will always find new and innovative ways to downplay Nintendo :P
For one, when they bash 3D glasses, they aren't just bashing sony, they're bashing basically ever well-known television manufacturer out there (samsung, Panasonic, sharp, etc...) munu9
They aren't bashing. No glasses is an attractive selling point, one they need as there is no way to show the 3D effect to the mass market.
"uhh why should I buy 3DS?"
It has the largest compilation of hardcore games (launch lineup), and you get 3D glass free at a very affordable price. 3D photos is also a nice addition.
They need to appeal this device to the hardcore market first, because they are the ones following the industry. So when for example the gamer gets a 3DS, he/she will show it to the casual familly members, and they will run out and buy it.

When the technology is there that does not give people headaches and eye problems it will take off.
The problem is not just the eyestrain and headaches-- it's also because too many content producers only use 3D as a gimmick to attract customers, without actually using it for anything good, or even worse, they tack it on hastily and it looks like garbage. Also, you have the problem that once the novelty wears off, you can't excite customers by saying "Look, it's 3D!" Ultimately, there's going to come a point when customers just don't care enough to buy something that's 3D for the sake of being 3D. Maybe if they ever successfully invent a holodeck 3D will over take 2D, but we're a long ways off from that.what do you guys think Sony ?? a litlle girl !!
i once said to someone " give Sony a break, they finally started to make profits from the PS3" , and he replaied " give a multi billion company a break !! "
on topic, i dun mind wearing the glasses, as long as they are comfortable.

it's the developers that put the technology to GOOD use that create the lasting appeal. and with nintendo and sony behind it, there are bound to be games that put 3D tech to good use. just like there were for the wii - and motion control is the future of gaming because of it.
you can't deny that 3D gaming provides a user experience that traditional 2D gaming can't. because of that, there is potential for the technology. its up to developers to make sure the tech reaches its potential.
lulz, seriously, some of you guys are acting like there is an avalanche of 3D shovelware crushing your homes as we speak.
thereis almost nothing out yet and the things that i have personally seen with my own eyes has been impressive and very fun to look at.
i can tell you right now that most of the 3d bashers have not seen it and know nothing about it other than what their own biases are.
i went into the store wanting to think it was lameand walked out with a 3d tv.
I see where they are coming from. If you want a big 3D experience, it's hard to get around the glasses. Still, they suck.
There is an avalanche of 3D shovelware. It's not on game consoles, though-- it's in movie theaters.lulz, seriously, some of you guys are acting like there is an avalanche of 3D shovelware crushing your homes as we speak.

After all the **** they talk about other people's products they get all huffy when served a taste of their own medicine.General_XExactly. Big pack of babies working over at Sony...
This right here.If sony feels this way, why did they hire kevin butler to make fun of others' motion techs?

90% of the movies coming out weren't even made for 3D anyways, they just added it in later as a marketing ploy
The prob is were looking at two different divisions of Sony here. SCE(Sony computer Entertainment ) and (SWS)Sony's Worldwide Studios. The video game guys (sce) have no prob with taking and giving shots for the lulz while SWS (movie division) isnt happy.
sorry if old http://ps3.ign.com/articles/110/1103136p1.html "I have hope that they have a broader perspective with 3D. When you listen to what they are saying about the effect of 3D perspective to the games, they are saying the same message we are, but they don't have to bash some small part of what the other company is doing. I think as an industry we should preach this new perspective, from a very large cinema screen to a small portable, because that helps advancing the games and the game industry," he said. "We'd like to work together to promote 3D. If you really want a big theater experience, of course you have to wear glasses. With the latest technology, the glasses are light and you kind of forget you're wearing them after awhile." - Sony's Worldwide Studios Shuhei YoshidaKing_Dodongo
im sure nintendo was offended when stupid *** kevin butler came out and made fun of the wii at E3. sony can dish it out but cant take it
all i can tell you is that after seeing the demos in the store i was hooked and i am a pretty critical guy.
believe me if i could come in here and ridicule 3d in any way i would be doing it but after seeing it what i am doing is stashing away money so that i can get the glasses that go with my tv at some point.
it may not be soon because i'm waiting for the library but i'm sold.
I don't even know why either company would bad mouth the others 3d, they are not there to, and can not, fill the same need.
I also laugh at anyone who pretends to be excited for one and not the other. Either 3d is something you're interested in or not.
Pug-Nasty
This is false. One can definitely be more excited for any given execution of 3D based on price and the way that it is executed.
"but they don't have to bash some small part of what the other company is doing."

[QUOTE="Sword-Demon"]Ppl dont seem to get sony has diff divisions :x we cant label ever comment as "from sony". I dont see wat the big deal is wearing 3D glasses in your own home. I mean we already wear them in public with out any problems, but not its a huge pain to wear them in your own house? Yeah it would be nice if we didnt had to wear glasses but Im fine with the glassesRTUUMM
I paid $2000 when Lasik first came out in order to not have to wear glasses. I'm sure not going to start wearing glasses to watch TV or play video games.
3d that requires glasses=fail
