Summary: headset is wireless, contains eye tracking technology, and also uses foveated rendering (areas that you look at will render in great detail while other areas render in less detail).

Not surprising since Sony said they're investing in VR going forward but it's nice to see these additions on the way.

Would love if this ends up being PSVR2. True PS5 visuals on a wireless high resolution headset thanks to foveated rendering would be similar to jumping 2 console generations at once. VR games would never be visually downgraded again, and could even be upgraded visually compared to standard PS5 games.

"25.6 GFLOPs at 3.2 GHz" for PPE, that's pretty impressive. Doesn't say how many cores though.

Its also using optical pulse to transmit the large amount of data to the HMD and can be wired and wireless.

I hope it gets released when the PS5 is released.

If you have the money and you like VR, why not. Not my cup of tea but I can see why people would like it.

Wouldn't be surprised if those are NOT implemented with the actual next PSVR.

Compared to the current major PC VR. That's still close to the same price plus you get a console.

@i_p_daily: that's nothing for a new console and new vr headset for a whole gen. Same price as a new iPhone which some people upgrade every year which I wouldn't personally. When you work full time and have a disposable income it's cheap lol Are you getting your next gen console for free..??

I would definitely buy a next gen VR headset if it worked on PC.

So they patented an Idea that many companies have already released in a product form.

Yep. More PSVR threads. PSVR popularity is growing, and it's great to see. Gen 1 was successful, so Sony is going all in on gen 2. Lovely. Bring on the wireless tech!

@pc_rocks: you don't know what a patent is, do you?

$1000 dollars is nothing lol, I have a full time job (worked 6 days this week 60hrs) and I wouldn't waste that much to play 2 different kinds of games especially shit like VR, but hey some of us have families/mortgages etc, i'm happy for you & that you have no commitments in life and can piss your money down the drain.

Your mobile phone analogy is worthless as most pay for these phones per month on a plan, and yet consoles are bought out right before you can take them home as they are not on a monthly plan.

@mazuiface: the psvr works pretty well with most games on PC. The tracking is just as good if not better with a Kinect 2.0 sensor. So some one will make it work with PC next gen.

So long as PS5 is BC with the current model and it's still supported, I'm not bothered by new versions. If they expect me to buy another VR headset for the PS5, I'll pass.

@i_p_daily: well the cost of anything is subjective to the person paying it whether it's cheap or pricey. And sure I have my own mortgage to pay for and family. If you can't afford a thousand dollar investment over a 7 year console span which is what, just over a hundred dollars a year, then maybe you should find another job, especially working over 60 hours per week.

There are also places which do finance over several years similar to a mobile phone plan for console purchases if you can't afford a 1000 dollars over years and years. Gaming is a super cheap hobby in comparison to others.

Vr even in these early days is worth every penny for such a change in the way we enjoy gaming.
