Sony placing PS3 slim manufacturing orders for delivery in July?

"We haven't heard much about the PS3 slim since E3, but that doesn't mean it's been entirely quiet out there -- the hot rumor today is that Sony's signed manufacturing agreements with both Foxconn and Pegatron to build the revised model in time for July delivery. That much we believe, since it's been backed up by a couple different credible reports, but here's where it gets totally insane: there's a suggestion that the slim will be the last PS3 model of this generation, and that a next-gen console based on Sony's motion controller is due in spring 2010. We don't buy that at all, since the PS3 is just entering its prime and Sony was clear that the motion controller was for the existing console, so we think this rumor is getting garbled down the wire -- it's far more likely that the slim is being prepped for an August launch to coincide with those rumored price cuts, and that new PS3 bundles that include the motion controller are set to drop next year. That's just our take on the matter, though -- we'll see how things shake out."

honestly i dont care what sony does, they have made to many mistakes this gen.

I hate when people say it's too late. They may not win, but we still have a long time.... The xbox 360 came out 4 years ago and I think it's going to have another 4 years before they release a new one. And guess what? In the next generation, the 360 and ps3 will still be selling a lot! Think people...

had they stayed out and focused on the thing they were good at , theyd be in a better position ,,

also 600 is a no no in the gamers eyes , look at saturn lol ,

Maybe it's just me, and it is off-topic, but the two manufacturing companies, Foxconn and Pegatron remind me of Transformers :P

At this point Sony, its an after thought. You already fell too far this gen and let the competition gain far too much from you. No matter what they do at this point, Sony's gaming division cannot possibly consider this gen a success. Its 2009 and theyve already all but finished in 3rdshadow8585

Don't know about the future as I am not a fortune teller as everyone else seems to be.

All I know is that, if a Slim was released, it would certainly drop the price of the 160GB. They put the 160GB PS3 at around $350 or $300 and I'd pick one up immediately. My original 40GB PS3 busted and sony wouldn't repair due to it being 4 months over the 1 year warranty. They wanted the $150 to repair it...which is ridiculous. Can't justify repairing a 40GB PS3 for $150 as it was so little space to begin with. So, when the 160GB goes down, I'm in...again. :)

the ps3 slim was confirmed at e3? im kinda comfused about the opening sentence???? i dont remember them announcing the slim?

The price cut will be good for Sony and help the PS3 sales. However I don't think in the foreseeable future (next couple years or so) the PS3 will overtake the 360 in sales, unless MS releases a new Xbox between now and then. If Sony drops the price of the PS3, MS can just do the same for the 360.

I can see Sony being the first to release a new console. They are in the same boat Microsoft was in last gen. Xbox 1 did not make that many sales so they were forced to put a new console on the market. Sony is the one not doing good this gen so I can totaly see Sony starting next gen first. I do not care what company does it first because I am so ready for a new gen right now. (The only console I own is a 360 btw)

Saturn didn't do well in the west because it didn't have a good US library. However it did well in Japan.

PSP is also doing very well in Japan, so obviously Sony did something right because its the first handheld to ever truly compete with Nintendo.

Sorry but most people here have a lack of foresight and understanding (of others) if they actually think a lower priced PS3/PS3 slim isn't going to sell. Personally the only thing stopping me from getting a PS3 is the price tag, blu-ray + gaming console will buy me, and if they add BC, I'll buy it even faster. I can see quite a lot of people upgrading to blu-ray using PS3 if it is at a reasonable price.

And the whole, 'you can buy a cheap blu-ray player' thing is silly, since cheap blu-ray players are just that, cheap blu-ray players. I want a top quality blu-ray and from what I know PS3 is top quality blu-ray.

Everyone should know that no Sony exclusive will be enough to boost sales in such a way to reach/surpass the 360... but a major Price-cut along release of titles such as MAG, GOW3, Uncharted2, GT5 & FF13 (Japan)& FF13 versus (worldwide)would surely make a huge impact in sales for Sony..

As much as PS3 fans want hard for PS3 to get back at no.1 its not possible just with amazing titles.. PS3 has been getting amazing exclusives since launch (specially from mid 2008 onwards) and still didnt help getting out of third place..

As for PS3 haters, as much as you dont want to accept it, its only the higher PRICE TAG for PS3 that keeps it in last place, otherwise it would surely be in 2nd place or even 1stshould the PS3 been launched at $399 and then had a Price cut back in early 2008 down to $299..

But everyone should deal with reality which is that PS3 while being the best value for money as a 'whole package' and offering an amazing (quality) games library its still in last place when it comes to sales.. Lets see what Sony have in mind for its future !!

and every one knows that microsoft is in a far far better position to price drop their system with actually making profit off of it, and its not like there are no games being released any time soon for 360 quite a few exclusives, and multiplatform games are being released.WilliamRLBaker

never said the 360 is not getting any exclusives/multiplats... surely has an interesting line-up of games coming up.. However if Sony with its much higher price tag still managed to sell 21 million consoles, i believe if it manages to go down to $299 it would surely start selling more units than 360.. this is just a personal thought got no crystal ball..

You know $299 in Japan/US with a few upcoming Rpgs like (FF13 & Versus) would should have a huge boost in sales, as would in the rest of the world..

$299 with the release of games such as GT5 & GOW3 would boost sales in EU & US..

But what i'm saying is that lets forget the upcoming titles, a $299 PS3 would already boost sales just cause its now more affordable.. It alreadyhas an amazing games library along being a blu-ray player & offering a good (FREE) online service..

E3 had the PSP slim.

TGS will have PS3 "slim" and GT5 release date for this christmas.

Mark my words.
