Sony praises Nintendo and MS. Calls for unity in system wars! CEASE FIRE!!

Shawn Layden of Sony may have just sent the most significant wave throughout the system wars to date... In a remarkable speach given to the audience at the DICE summit.

"PlayStation’s Shawn Layden kicked off the annual DICE Summit in Las Vegas this week with a call for unity among game makers, a significant step away from an age-old approach that led to console wars that pitted PlayStation against Xbox against Nintendo.

More striking still was that the call for the industry to move “beyond generations” and for former competitors to be allies and not adversaries came from Sony Interactive Entertainment"

He goes on.....

“Sure, we all compete for attention to further this industry but we do so to keep the video gaming landscape vibrant and essential,” Layden said in an opening keynote that praised Nintendo, Microsoft and other game makers for their work. “We have the power to bring people joy, inspiration, respite, we have the ability to transport them to new worlds and provide them with superpowers. As developers, we do not compete against one another. We all craft art, and art is founded on the creative, not the competitive.”

"It was an astounding speech that heaped praise on Nintendo for creating the “best-selling console of 2018 in the U.S.” and launching it with a “game of the year and noted Microsoft’s work in striving to make games more accessible."

Thats a whole lot of olive branching if you ask me... It really puts into perspective how the console makers think about eachother and really makes those who dig their heels in to win the system wars come off that much more out of touch.

It’s funny how they told all the developers to ignore the vocal minority internet trolls....yet the games journalists and developers are the ones doing the trolling.

This won’t stop console wars. PlayStation is still the king. Xbox and Nintendo will always fight for second. Just accept it and move on. The video game industry is at its best when Sony leads.

I never liked this Shawn Layden character. Something about his whole energy just seemed off every time he was on stage or spoke about games.

His whole energy bout gaming seems fake. I hope they replace this clown with someone who actually cares about gaming before he does irreversible damage to the playstation brand.

Exactly when MS went to both Sony and Nintendo with the idea of making 1 Super Console they both balked at the idea.

MS wanted 1 united Console front that would have been sweet for gamers.

I'm all for it. All systems have something worthwhile to play, and we all have different preferences that should be respected.

Never! if the conflict dies then video games die with IMO.

It's the reason why video games often feel blander today IMO... there's this sense that it's all taken care of and no one has any new ideas... but it's not even clear

the current big 3 which one comes out ahead so... I just don't get it.
