Hopefully they get it together. They really need to start making better decisions. The PS4 could really be their last console if they screw up.
Thing is its their TV department what is getting most loses, their playstation section according to many articals i read is stable which is good, they really need to seperate the gaming section away from the TV/camera's/computers section.

They should
1. stop making mediocre shooters for the casual masses
2. start making deep RPGs for hardcore gamers
.
That is all they have to do really
How would this help their failing TV and computer division? They should

The losses don't really have anything to do with the gaming division. they're just have to many unnecessary stuff on the market. A company of all trades is a master of none. They should focus more on gaming and leave some of the other stuff alone. They should
1. stop making mediocre shooters for the casual masses
2. start making deep RPGs for hardcore gamers

Here's hoping for a bright year for Sony this year, now with Kaz being the new CEO hopefully he change a lot of stuff, last year was just bad overall for them not only because the TV's were on low demand but because of what happened in Japan which cost them a lot and what happened in April with all the hack stuff.

thats really going to help their TV manufacturing/consumer good arms and just shows you are really a clueless troll.
SCE is profitable, they would not dare tamper with their current strategy as its working perfectly fine.
Sony going third party on WII U and Xbox RROD Kinect Krap 720 confirmed.
It reminds me so much of the Sega situatation during Saturn and Dreamcast era.PS Vita is also burning down to ashes.
Sony's gaming division has been pretty profitable for years now. This has nothing to do with the Playstation brand at all.

Are you sure about that? The loss includes a $1.09 billion loss by the company's Consumer Products and Services division, of which PlayStation is a part."

pretty sure SCE was spun off into its own division eons ago.

that doesn't prove that the PS brand was responsible for the loss ... I mean are you serious ?obviously the PS brand would be under that category.
Obviously not good news. Perhaps Hirai can stop the bleeding and turn Sony back around. No one wants to give him credit; but who knows? He's in the position that he is for a reason, whether or not some SW forumites think he's got any sense.

I definitely wouldn't say it has nothing to do with it. There's a fairly good likelihood that Sony will be bankrupt within a couple of years. The Playstation brand will probably get spun off or sold, but it's not going to just continue on like nothing happened.

Sega is releasing the Dreamcast 2 this year. See I make stuff up too.

If the Vita fails then the PS brand is likely going to start bleeding money again.
K shh, ya din't here this from teh SP but..
Get ready for the MS/Sony...
PSX !! huh, again, yup, foreshadowed dontchaknow ?
Nintendo am
:P
There will never be a PS4.
Mark these words.

You know, I don't think you're completely right, but if they keep bleeding money like this then recovery becomes less and less likely.

Is there any information available on how much SCE made or lost? Those numbers would be a better indicator of whether or not the Playstation brand is in trouble. Anyone got a link to them?[QUOTE="Wasdie"]Yup, PS4 is on the way, can't wait. Nothing but good news for us gamers that's for sure. Looks whos talking.
There was once a time when you wanted the best in CE you first thought of sony. They had the best and they could charge extra for their product. That was a long time ago. Sony did not even cross my radar when I got a new TV 2 months ago. They messed up big with the launch of the PS3. With the delays and huge pricetag they left the door open for MS. Their arrogance with the PS3 launch(the next gen does not start until we say so) is part of the reason they are in the shape they are now. Who would have thought after the butt kicking the PS2 put on everyone that there would be topics here debating who sold more this year/gen. Simple fact is they caused their own downfall and its going to be hard to ever get back to where they where years ago.

Even if Sony's TV or laptop divisions go down, I still think (after some downsizing) they will be able to make a profit with the Playstation brand alone.

Yup, I might out after work and put down a deposit on a PS4 since we know one will be coming out. Don't want to miss one day. There is no way to know how much the PS3 has made or if it even did make any money. Interesting to say the least.... Idon't want to see Sony die as a brand... but I wouldnt mind seeing Sony/Sega combine their efforts.... though I know it won't happen, it'd be fun to watch.
I think Sony is in some serious trouble though... anyone who says otherwise is just delusional. 2 billion is ALOT of MOOLAH! for anyone. Seeing the Vita's sales overseas doesnt give much hope. Can't wait to see the sales a month after launch here in NA. SW will be going crazy, either way.

Considering their strong sales on hardware (PS3) and its noted PS3 is made for a profit now, aswell as strong retail sales its pretty inevitable for the SCE part of SNEP to be profitable.
Sony's had 3 major doozy's this fiscal year aswell.
Loosing one of their main DADC facilities had a massive impact on the EU record industry
the Japanese earthquake
and the PSN scandal.
But it still doesnt mean their software and hardware under the playstation marque is dying or weak. Its strangely sony's trumph card right now.
Playstation is their strongest brand.
The whole company could crumble and they would sell it off to keep making Playstations.
What else they gonna keep?
Shower radios?
TV's?
Vaio's?
Vibrators?
Playstation is their only brand that's actually doing well, the rest are getting curbstomped.
That's because Sony is f*cking stupid from the top down.
Their management are candidates for the short bus.
I wouldn't let Stringer manage a 7-11 much less a multi-national corporation.
They did it to themselves no sympathy from me.Miketheman83They brought an earthquake upon two manufacturing plants AND made the yen a strong currency? News to me.
People on this forum actually have no clue.
PS3's are priced at $299 right? Or $249.
Say the value of the dollar drops %60 from Bush to Obama
Guess what you just made %60 less money this year on everything you sold in the US.
