Did Sony get their inspiration to develop the PS3 from a pile of s***?

First off they force us to have Blu-Ray, which isn't really used as all 360 games have been made on a DVD and still support HD visuals and massive amount of content. Okay the PS3 can play Blu-Ray movies but why not just make an attachment like the 360 so instead of being forced to pay extra for a technology that may not even be around for very long we get a choice.

Not only that not many people own a HDTV so how many people actually own one that is capable of 1080p output? again they should have left out the Blu-Ray player for that very reason. Not only that if Blu-Ray technology does provail then better stand-a-lone players will be more affordable

Second the european PS3 is somewhat limited in its backwards compatibility so I also feel I'm getting ripped off there too! Not only that Sony stick some lame ass motion sensing on the controller to try and counter Nintendo's motion sensing on the Wii.

Third, many so called playstation exclusives have gone Multiplatform so why should I pay more for a console that is barely better than the much cheaper 360 and getting identical games apart from the odd sony published title? Sorry but the benefits of owning a PS3 are very limited in comparison to the competition at the moment.

Maybe once a price drop happens and Blu-Ray becomes the format of choice and also better games become available this could change. There is potential but the early signs are very bleak for the PS3.

Like I said, People without HDTV's (which is a lot) and not only that you need a TV that can display in 1080p to get the most out of it. Plus it isn't even known just how long Blu-Ray could be about because of the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD war. So yes if Blu-Ray wins and PS3 drops down in price it could be seen as a good way of getting a cheap Blu-Ray player but right now its not. Plus the stand-a-lone Blu-Ray players are always going to get better and better and cheaper and cheaper.

I think the PS3 was a great idea. I want a high end game console that also offers the greatest possibilities in the future. The PS3 is future-proof, and that is worth $600.

Actually, the PS2 was much, Much closer to the Sega Saturn, and it turned out to be the World's #1 Console.

even if blu-ray as a movie player sucked it up in a couple years....its still a good disc format for gaming.  I doubt blu-ray will be going anywhere any time soon.  hddvd and blu-ray will be duking it out for a couple years atleast.

I still fail to see how the PS3 is future proof and the 360 isn't?

I trust Sony. Look at there past consoles. I have had a great time with PS1, PS2, and PSP. I thought the Xbox was great, but it didn't last very long. The same thing will likely happen with the 360. Sony supports there consoles with good software for much longer. I think that is worth $600. Also even if Blu-Ray would happen to fail as a movie format, you will still have it as a game format, and it will make games better in the years to come. HD-DVD on the 360 isn't used for games, Blu-Ray on the PS3 is.

The 360 isn't even present proof. They are poorly manufactured. They are way higher than a 5% failure rate. Blu-Ray is hardly failing. It has already passed HD-DVD in total movies sold since inception and HDDVD had at least a 5 month head start. That gap is only going to widen with the aggressive release schedule BR has compared to the weak schedule that HDDVD has. Since the begining of the year BR has held a 2-3 to 1 advantage in sales. The only "choice" MS gave you was the "choice" to buy a failing format. If they were really about choice they would have had either a HDDVD drive or a Blu-Ray drive for you to choose from.

I myself find it really difficult to play my 360 on a SDTV; could hardly read the menus before I got my Bravia. Now, with an HDTV, I'm really looking forward to HD movie playback. Moreover, remember that we're only one year into a generation that will live for another 5-6. You will see much prettier games later on in the life cycle, and they may (or may not) require more disc space.

DVD is a failing format? Last I checked it's still the standard format.

Where exactly are we talking about DVD's here? I was referring to the HD-DVD drive. Last time I checked that has nothing to do with what we are discussing in anything you just quoted.

All of the points you bring up actually make the PS3 better than the competition. Not only does it have all of the features of the 360 it has even more.

The thing is, unless a new technology comes within two years that makes it worthless (and I'm not seeing anything on the immediate horizon that can do that) it won't fail. Blu-Ray is killing it's competitor HD-DVD by this point and only looks to be accelerating.

Who's "us"? I like having blu ray. It's the future whether or not you're willing to accept it. If you dont want it, dont get a PS3. Europe doesnt get ripped off. They're going to have backwards compatibility too, just not as much to begin with but firmware updates will give them what they want. It's saving sony money. Money they can use to improve the online system and make games. Phil Harrison said that due to production problems, not a whole lot of ps3s have been made so it would benefit the titles that would have been "exclusive" to go multiplatform. Do yourself a favor and sell your PS3 if you dont like it that much (or if you have one) and get another system

Because its not all about HD-video? Theres technologies that are already being rolled out for better inactivity, more special features, ect. Besides I guarantee you WILL have an HDTV, that FCC regulation pretty much ensures it.

That's not far from the truth. They say it has similar architecture to a Sega Saturn!!!!

Dude, you got some real beef issues with the PS3. Did it take your lunch money from you or something?

Xbox 360 has much more General Purpose CPU power than the Playstation 3. IGN has said many times that the tri-core CPU design of the Xbox 360 is much more flexible and developer friendly than the Playstation 3's very outdated parallell processing design that is very difficult to work with, just like the Sega Saturn, which used a similar design. Playstation 3 can perform more Floating Point math calculations than the Xbox 360; however, it's important to remember that Floating Point math calculations are primarily used in things like spreadsheets; they are not optimized to work with videogame graphics and sound like the Xbox 360 customized hardware is.

Again, don't care. And whenever that FCC regulation does go into effect, my cable company will just give me a converter.

And you were told this by them that you will get one free of charge? By that point HDTVs are going to be pretty much the only ones on the market. Already SDTVs are virtually non-existant in retail (EDTVs have replaced them) and as the HDTV technologies become cheaper those will be phased out as well.

It's one of those "I can't have it so I must bash it" syndromes.

HDTVs are already pretty cheap. If you look around well enough you can find a 32 inch 720p/1080i tv for around $500.
