Yep PS3 software sales still suck ...

12.85 million PS3 sold a mere 71.3 million pieces of software sold.

Thats "ONLY" an attack rate of 5.54 ... which is just horrible over 15months (US/Japan) and 12 months(Europe/Others)

vs. M$'s claimed** 7 attach rate / 19 million x 7 = 133 million pieces of software sold LTD over 28 months ...


** That 7 is based off the figures i last remember M$ giving ...

In the end 360 and PS3 are doing preety good ...

PS3 hardware sales are doing well, but nothing like the old days of PS2, and the estimate of 10 million more sold this year suggestst to me no major price drops in the near future.

On the software side it's not great but not terrible either, definately an area where the 360 still has the advantage.

PS2 is doing amazing considering its age now, wonder when that thing is going to finally peter out.

PSP hardware sales are doing much better but the software sales are as stagnant as ever. The install base is hugely bigger than the PS3's and yet less games sold and it's not like the PS3 has an amazing attatch rate either.

Piracy and lack of AAA titles seem to be evident

Attach rate really don't mean much though. Sure attach rate of the PS3 is pretty good. But the main linch-pin is userbase and total software sold each year. Why isn't the PS2 dying? Well, you just did why.....The Wii. Here it is. 150 total million units sold on about 25 million hardware. life time attach rate of 6! So based on attach rate, Wii and PS3 are not much different. But if you look at the total life time software sales, then the Wii STOMPED the PS3 to the ground by a nearly 3 to 1 margin! How is that happening? User base that's why! That's what happens when you reach critical mass (i.e. over 20 million units sold). It's either that or have a userbase that's stone cold game buying crazy like the X360! I can't imagine what will happen to the Wii's software sales next year, when the Wii goes to 50 million units sold! Software sales will be over 200 million is the guess here! Shattering both the X360 and the PS3! Sales doesn't matter huh?

Not until 2010! That's when the two HD Consoles finally drops to the casual sweet spot price of $200 and the Wii finally are available everywhere and at around $150! That's when this gen will finally reach "Critical Mass"! Right now, the two HD consoles are just limping along and is still too expensive for mass market. Only the Wii is at "Critical MAss" but due to supply constraints, many people are probably still opting for the PS2 instead.
