Sony reaches 1 million PlayStation Now subscribers

Sony has announced that they have reached 1 million PlayStation Now subscribers following the service’s recent price drop.

Since the company sharply decreased the monthly cost of the video game streaming service, the service has seen an exponential growth. From 700,000 subscribers back in August, PlayStation has seen a 40+% growth up to 1,000,000.

The service has also been improved through the addition of new games and features. While PlayStation 3 titles are still exclusively streaming-only, certain PS4 titles are available for download.

Alongside the price cut, PlayStation also introduced the addition of exclusive PlayStation titles to the service. God of War, Infamous: Second Son, Uncharted 4 and more, PlayStation Now is actually worth a damn.

“PS Now has become even more attractive due to a global strategic price reduction and the addition of limited-time only popular game titles such as God of War,” said senior EVP and CFO Hiroki Totoki. “Since starting the service renewal, subscribers have steadily increased, and the total number of subscribers has already exceeded 1 million people as of this month.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s has revealed that PlayStation Now will be playing a pivotal role in the company’s strategy for the next generation. With the company partnering with Microsoft’s Azure platform for streaming, it should rival xCloud, especially if the 1 million PlayStation Now subscribers continues to grow.

“We are getting more confident with the service and we are really going to start to push it hard this year and in years to follow,” Ryan said.

Is it still streaming only?

I subbed when the price dropped, but I'd like to see more out of the service. There are some good titles on there, but it is still a shadow of Game Pass. Sony is moving in the right direction, but they have some catching up to do.

I mean, it's great for those who likes this type of service and PC also benefits using PS Now. It's not for me and don't like giving any gaming company ideas streaming your games will be the best thing for gaming.

Over 800 games to play and over 300 ps4 titles can be downloaded. Good for people who skipped a lot of games.

I was about to say my internet isn't fast enough but since being reminded that you can download the games...I don't have any excuse now. I already have most of the big games so may just get it to play some niche titles.

Yeah for Sony it is. Not sure why you made an attach rate calculation for this. Probably to try to neg the Sony or something.

It has many more games than game pass (which is also 50% cheaper), but does not allow any of its games to be downloaded to PC. Factor this into your comparison.

To me, both are non-ideal because the cost of gaming is essentially infinity with these, since you will pay as long as you want to play. For example: what if I want to play only a few games for some time? I'll end up paying for the service in that time plus any DLC added to the game. I'd rather buy a low price version of the game.

That's... Not that great. The service needs to mature, and one of their biggest steps was allowing downloads of certain games.

Sadly they killed playstation vue. Always loved that feature, pay for channels that you want to watch. Would like to have a great PSNow and PSVue combo.

I dont understand why people hate it so much. I love Ps Now. As a ps4 ex-owner I used it nicely on console and now I use it on PC.

I mean guys, last weekend went to my girlfriend's place, we downloaded PS Now on her slow as **** laptop with 20mbps internet, bought 1$ account from ebay for 14 days and she had so much fun playing Uncharted 4 and GOW on her laptop damn.. I mean its a great concept which already works quite well. Its a luxury of playing Bloodborne on cheap laptop with Dualshock.
Without downloading shit. Without console. Even on PS4.

I see great potential in this.

Got a deal on it at $40/year so if i beat just 20 games on it, that's $2/game. Steal.

PS Now is the future. I highly doubt there will be a PS6 or if there is, it won't have disc support and will almost exclusively just be a box to run PS Now out of.

This is the future of gaming. Internet speeds are improving. You can still download and play PS4 games if you want to avoid streaming. Last gen, most people would have laughed at digital sales overtaking physical. It happened. Last gen, microtransactions were not common, sadly it is more of a shock for a game NOT to have it these days.

1 million subscribers is only the beginning. It's going to rise to 2 million pretty quickly. Then 4, 8, 16 etc.

Wow ,when ps5 launches with Sony’s new ps now model, it’s pretty much game over for the Xbox brand.

It has PS3 games and the only way to play PS3 games on the PS4 is to rent them through this service, thus renting BC, not a hard concept to grasp one would think.

This after they announced that PS Vue is being discontinued. Sure they have more subs now but I don't see them continuing it past next gen.

both seem WAY cooler than Google Stadia, since a) they have more/better games, and b) using streaming or download tech IMO makes much more sense for a Netflix style model than Google’s “purchase” model.

I am glad they are services that others enjoy. I personally don't have a desire to use them, but the more options out there, the better IMO.

PS Now is great value for new PS users who missed the previous gens and people who don't mind renting games because they rarely replay them when done. Sony is being very strategic with PS5.

If you buy games brand new when they come out, it isn't good value for you.
