Another brilliant move by Sony besides constantly raising console and controller prices.

Remove a feature everyone liked. One that allowed you to skip startup screens and intro movies and get right into a game.

I'm hearing it was bugged in a few games, so instead of tasking their software engineers to fix it, Sony decided to just scrap the feature.

Not gonna lie, this was my most used feature on PS5.

@Chutebox: nah that's another feature.

The one I wrote about here pops up when you have the game selected at the main menu.

Will they bring it back for a nominal fee? Perhaps a new higher tier of PS+.

The gone for good bit looks like speculation. Still odd that they pulled it. Was it very buggy across many titles or just some edge cases? They could just implement a blacklist for games that have problems with it.

.....Though no PS5 games should be having a problem with it at least. Surely that functioning is part of the certification process for a PS5 release? It's a bit like a Switch game that doesn't work when docked.....it's not optional. The developer has to support that or the game doesn't get released.

*sigh*.....consoles.....where did it all go wrong? Somehow this is still Nintendos fault 😋.

The only other reason I can think of, and it's a stretch, is maybe someone at legal saw the feature and got spooked. The quick resume feature would essentially bypass the epilepsy warning after the first boot. But that is just wild speculation on my part. We will know more is MS also suddenly pull the feature (which hopefully they don't).

Anywho maybe it's just temporarily disabled while the issues are worked out. Or maybe they are making that blacklist and checking it twice.... Hopefully it does return.

@osan0: quick resume would skip the epilepsy warning yeah, but by that time you would've seen it once already.

On PC too I like to delete these intro movies because starting your favorite game for the thousand time and seeing it was made by EA/dice can be a bit redundant.

And yeah I made the thread title and linked an article that seems to be based on speculation because I want to scare the cows away from this thread. I'm kind of a badass like that.

It only worked on a few games for me and not very consistently. Something like quick resume would be awesome, though. The games I've played on load so fast that it's really a non-issue but still, I hope Sony just builds their own version of Quick Resume for use on PS5 Pro in the distant future.

Another reason why I personally don't care for Quick Resume to be used for PC as NVME drives really help speed things up.

@davillain: tbh as a pc gamer I'm kinda jealous of quick resume on Xbox.

I see a lot of people now have 64gb RAM, which goes mostly unused, couldn't some of that be used to keep games in stasis?

Well it puts you directly into the game so it

  • Skips health warnings
  • Skips intro movies
  • Bypasses main menu

Saves a couple of minutes and a couple of clicks here and there

Yeah or perhaps it was bugged :D

I remember a few that work, off the top of my head I tried it in Ratchet & clank and Maneater.

I only used for Resident Evil 3 Remake last year. Don't really miss it especially since I don't know if every game supported it like first party games.

So much for Sony's magical ssd that would eliminate loading screens, now you have to rewatch all the loading screens of who made the game and warnings over and over again 🤦‍♂️

Honestly the best feature MS has done the last 2 gens is quick resume, and this gen those glorious bastards at MS engineering department even created quick resume for disk games on Series X. I can swap disks and when the games about to load up quick resume pops up in the corner and boom you're back where you last left off, brilliant.

You can probably do that already on the PC...er....mostly. Just pause the game and Alt-Tab out of it. Some games may be a bit temperamental about it but worth giving it a shot. Generally if the game loses focus the GPU will also stop giving it time so you shouldn't burn through a whole load of power while the game is out of focus.

You think Sony is going to demand third parties disable quick resume on Xbox to adhere to parity clause? I mean, wouldn't surprise me, not one bit.

Sony is doing all kinds of shady backhand deals, so who knows.

I am not sure this is a studio thing - I think it's part of the Xbox's version of Windows.

I would not be surprised if Sony killed the feature because they are going to add ads to their games at the "start screen" (which was a big topic 2 years ago), and gamers bypassing that would lessen the value of those ads.

Another fumble by Sony.

I can no longer skip load-up screens due to this feature being gone.

On top of that, MY PS Stars no longer shows the ability to trade my points for money being added to my wallet.

What in the world is Sony doing these days?

Yeah I really wouldn't be surprised if Sony starts showing ads before the end of this gen. They are bleeding money on their exclusives and Concord was a 300 million dollar screw up.
