@hardwenzen: for me the drift has only been subtle, sometimes when tilting sticks a certain direction and returning to center there can be a subtle drift that's more annoying than it is problematic. I sometimes wonder if deadzone settings can mediate much of the issues I experienced.
I think I read before like with the Nintendo issue that the problem persists due to a thin application of the materials used to detect movement when the axis rotate. Other things I have read in past regarding other issues for more prominent drift come from more extreme wear that appear to the result of the modules cheaper construction. If you look at photos of the say the Xbox 360 and PS3 analog modules versus their 8th and 9th gen counterparts we can see they newer ones swapped out metal parts for cheaper plastic ones. I imagine this is responsible for more of the harder drift problems like when sticks are loose and don't center correctly.
Myself with the Xbox One issues believed much of my drift was attributed to some kind of dust, I suspect from the stick rubbing against edge and when I did experience drift I found blowing hard down into the housing would remedy my issues for me for a while.
As far as dead zone considerations though I wonder if say games could sometimes engage or change system and/or controller settings with respect to dead zones because I remember I fought on and off with dead zone issues for a while few years back, then when playing Titanfall 2 when it released I engaged the in-game setting dead zone options for a larger dead zone and I noticed the dead zone drift issues disappeared for me in other games that were giving me issues as well, so strange there, made me wonder what game I played in past might have changed and not reverted the deadzone settings if that was possible.
I'd be very curious though since people can still cheaply buy 7th gen analog modules by the bag full whether those will can be swapped out on the 8th/9th gen XB/PS controllers or not. If I can find someone handy with a soldering iron like one of those smaller game shops that do repairs I'd be curious if they could make it work, or maybe just pay them to try for my curiosity.
