Not defending Sony's rather lazy and forceful methods but...
Did you ever use or ever planned on using Linux on the PS3, TC?
No offense to you, but the way you usually type (and the oozing ignorance in most of your posts I've seen) does not imply that you are part of the demographic that value the Other OS option, quite the opposite.
Also, Sony is already getting sued. What's the point of this thread telling people that we should burn Sony to the ground?
Also, I find it weird that people are getting all over Sony for this. For one, the Other OS was not in the slim models. This would somewhat bring it even. Additionally, Linux runs like CRAP on the PS3, it may be of use for Cell programming, but you could get better performance from any computer that's less than 5 years old.
Also, do I need to remind you guys that the source of all this, is GeoHot and the pirate community? The PSP was almost put into its grave thanks to those people, you'd think Sony would just let them have their way on their flagship console? Sure it was lazy to remove the feature altogether, but if GeoHot unlocked the RSX in the Other OS function, it would be the end of the PS3 profitability for Sony. People will simply play games from the Other OS.
Piracy is much more potentially hurtful to the PS3 than to the PS1/PS2. This time around, Sony needs every cent of those software sales, especially since they LOSE money on the hardware (until recently), and because of that fact that they are trailing in 3rd place instead of dominating the market like before.
Besides, Sony was kind enough (at least) to allow those who use PS3 networks like the Airforce to keep it. Those people doesn't use them to play games. Locking away PSN and new games is just a way to prevent those who didn't take the update to pirate the console should the scenario mentioned above happens. (Unlocking of the RSX)
My bottomline opinion: If you were serious about Linux, you wouldn't use it on the PS3. If you were serious about Linux ON THE PS3(i.e. Cell programming, Airforce networks), you wouldn't use the PS3 for it's latest games.
