The PlayStation 3 outsold the Wii for the first time in Japan last month, after Sony cut prices and offered a cheaper model, Tokyo-based research firm Enterbrain Inc. said in November.

Stringer today said the company sells about 200,000 PlayStation 3 consoles in Europe each week, and 40,000 to 50,000 in Japan. It also sold more than 200,000 in the U.S. following ``Black Friday,'' the day after Thanksgiving.

I'd say Europe is the "swing" region in this war. Sony and Microsoft need to battle it out there in order to determine who's going to prevail over whom.

All I can say is beware of Sony's sales figures cows. Work out how many PS3's would have been sold if they were selling 200,000 consoles a week in Europe alone. Sony would be singing this from every rooftop and gaming site.

Isn't this the same guy that claimed 200 million PS2s sold?

Stringer today said the company sells about 200,000 PlayStation 3 consoles in Europe each week -Renegade

I think he just pulled that number from his behind/VGChartz, he knows we can't prove him wrong.

It also sold more than 200,000 in the U.S. following ``Black Friday,'' the day after Thanksgiving. -Renegade

Then why didn't they reveale the numbers when they disputed MS 2:1 claim? I think I'll wait for the NPD numbers thank you.

I love it how they can claim that they are selling 200k per week in Europe and yet their games are still not making the sales charts. If you recall the last software sales chart released for Europe showed the Wii with 8 games in the top 50 360 with 11 and the PS3 with 5.

The reason why he can make outlandish claims about the PS3 selling 200k per week in Europe is because no one tracks those numbers. The PS3 will end up with some 450k in US for November yet they somehow sold 800k in Europe... come on people that's just rediculous especually since the PS3 is hugely overpriced in Europe.

Guess what guys, its still the holidays. People are buying up whatever they can with these sales and such. Lets see if they can sustain these PS3 sales like how the Wii's does it all day every day.

True, Europe is a vital part in the games industry and is the second biggest games market. last gen PS2 sold over 40 million in Europe, this shows that there are alot of gamers that have yet not bought a next gen system. So far 360 is doing lacklustre in Europe and PS3 is doing better in a monthly basis. I mean PS3 has already reached half of 360's sales in Euope but in less then half the time.

Well here's one thing in the USA NPD doesn't track Wal-Mart THE BIGGEST RETAILER in the USA. The day after black friday Wal-mart had a deal where you buy a PS3 and get 10 free Blu Ray movies. Now I know we sold all our PS3s on that day I am sure alot of other Wal-marts did as well. Wal-mart has over 4k stores in the USA that's alot of PS3s not accounted for.

They get 60% of the market sales numbers and then estimate for the remaining 40%. Yes they don't get Wal-Mart numbers but they estimate for them.

I disagree with this increasing trend os using the 'singing from the rooftops' prejudice. As if something can't possible be true because Sony isn't bragging about it.

If Sony WERE bragging about it, people would be calling it lies, and hype and bashing sony for being cocky and arrogant. But when they keep their mouth shut (which they should do) then suddenly people act like Sony has something to hide and the numbers can't be trusted.

This "singing from the rooftops" prejudice is part of the myth that only Sony lies, only Sony hypes and only Sony is arrogant and manipulative.

I will wait until Sony releases there numbers in March (I think is when there first full year in all regions comes around) then these numbers may have a lot of 360 fans crying. This could disprove the various sites that are just guestamamting there numbers.

Well, while I can't defend the poor PS3 game sales, nobody wants to hear the word "wait" on this forum either. It isn't unusual for people to buy a console now, based on maybe one game thay want, and then wait for future games to come out. People to this day say that nobody cared about the PS1 or PS2 for at least a year because there were no games...yet people were buying it by the ton. NOt everyone that buys a console is a hardcore gaming nerd with tons of money to spend. Hell, I've been gaming for longer than most here have been alive, and yet now I'm older and have other responsibilities, bills a family, morgage, etc. I can't afford to buy 15 games a year like in the past even if I wanted to. I doubt I'm the only one in this boat. Now I just shake my head and can't believe how many people here supposedly have the time and money to buy what seems like 30 games a year.

People hate to hear "wait"..but "wait" is the reality. That doesn't necessarily mean that everyone is waiting JUST for the PS3. But the PS3 will have its moment at some point.

Wanna Know whats odd IMO. The Ps3 (399) is now priced to actually compete against the x360(399), yet it STILL cannot seem

to outsell it in North America on a consistant basis?

The x360 is $349 now. But the PS3 is underperforming compared to MS last holiday season at the same price point.

renegade you are without a doubt the most pathetic fanboy on here wou spend all your time scouring the internet looking for scraps of news that presentyour preciousPS3 in a good light. Its solaughably sad thati actually feel sorry for you. I have some advice though grow up stop spending your whole life protecting the PS3 and perhaps just maybe you wont be a virgin at 40.

Wanna Know whats odd IMO. The Ps3 (399) is now priced to actually compete against the x360(399), yet it STILL cannot seem

to outsell it in North America on a consistant basis?

Pripyat

The x360 is $349 now. But the PS3 is underperforming compared to MS last holiday season at the same price point.

You have official numbers? The 360 sold 500,000 last november if I remember correctly. THe recent guess we've seen put the PS3 at about 450,000.

We have no OFFICIAL numbers for November, but I don't think 450,000 or 500,000 is unrealistic.

MS sold 511k last november without price cuts. Both Wedbush Morgan and TheSimExchange have the PS3 around 400-420k with the $100 price cut, if that comes to pass it's underperforming.

The truth about the sales figures is that in America, people love Microsoft because it is an American company. In Japan, people love Nintendo and Sony because they are Japanese companies and thats why the 360 does so well in America but not in Japan. Anyone who didn't know this is dumb... or American.

Anyway, I don't pay that much attention to sales figures because I'd rather just play games.

I don't get the joke. 360 had the lead for a year, then comepetition came and it flopped miserably. PS3 is catching up in games and in sales, and Wii is just in its own league, it has definately redifined next gen gaming. And all you can do is laugh? Or don't get what the joke is, sales are important because they determine a lot of stuff, i.e exclusives, pricing, and shows the reception of the product. Its always been a factor/

I'd say Europe is the "swing" region in this war. Sony and Microsoft need to battle it out there in order to determine who's going to prevail over whom.fuzzysquash

-Renegade

Exactly. Why are these vast legions of new owners now buying enough games to register? If I bought a new console I'd want a new game to go with it no?

Well here's one thing in the USA NPD doesn't track Wal-Mart THE BIGGEST RETAILER in the USA. The day after black friday Wal-mart had a deal where you buy a PS3 and get 10 free Blu Ray movies. Now I know we sold all our PS3s on that day I am sure alot of other Wal-marts did as well. Wal-mart has over 4k stores in the USA that's alot of PS3s not accounted for.

Sorry -Ren, Walmart has a 360 deal too

Comes with:

XboxPremiumw/HDMI

Extra Controller

Forza2

MarvelAlliance

Any Extra Game of Your Choice

360 MessengerBag

All for $399.99.

3 games / extra controller > 10 crappy Blu-Ray's (they have to be under $30)

Any1 else find it hilarious that even the ps3's "deals" have absolutely nothing to do with gaming?

Ugh...

#1. Ps3 can't gain ground in sales if it's being outsold Worldwide.

#2. The Ps3 can't gain ground in games if for every AA+ game the ps3 gets...the 360 gets two.

Uncharted / Warhawk / HeavenlySwordVSMassEffect / Halo3 / Bioshock / Forza 2 / EternalSonata /OrangeBox :?

Just being honest, brother...

[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"]All I can say is beware of Sony's sales figures cows. Work out how many PS3's would have been sold if they were selling 200,000 consoles a week in Europe alone. Sony would be singing this from every rooftop and gaming site.ZIMdoom

Do you work for Sony? lol Its like you're part of their PR machine. Remember when the deliberately LIED about the French sales figures a month ago and then had to retract their statement and say that it included PS2 sales?

Why do you want to defend a company who doesn't give a flying **** about you? No one said that only Sony lies, but only Sony fans seem to believe EVERYTHING Sony tells like its gospel, and again and again they get burned when it turns out Sony has not told the truth.

If you wish to blindly follow Sony thats fine but don't make it seem like Sony is being unjustly singled out. MS and Ninentendo get bashed for everything they say too, but Sony execs and PR people seem to have an amazing inability to ever tell the truth and they do it so damned regularly, and thats why they get the label.

Cows for some reason think that they and Sony should get a pass.
