CH-DVD is China only.Not surprised, I think we're going to be seeing alot more of this in the aftermath of CH-DVD. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Sony's music division up for sale next.

So this means what for gaming? Pro_wrestlerWe don't really know. Sony is still working to make the Cell smaller and cheaper and still has a steady supply because of the cooperation of Toshiba. It could possibly allow for a price drop because of the money gained now but it's just a guess at best.
[QUOTE="PBSnipes"]CH-DVD is China only. But its compatible with HD-DVD. The reason CH-DVD is having such an impact is that if China is more or less forced into using CH-DVD, we're going to see a huge market for CH-DVD's. But because CH-DVD movies work in HD-DVD players (not sure if it works the other way around)its more effective for the corperations in Hollywood to support CH-DVD, and therefore HD-DVD. No one in their right mind is going to support BR much longer if China is really going to go 100% CH-DVD.Not surprised, I think we're going to be seeing alot more of this in the aftermath of CH-DVD. Sony can Afford it 2. You can use a Cell in a PC. CPU's do are compatible with any operating System. this might be the start of that.

Every few years they try some way at taking over or standardizing a popular market, and are unsuccessful. This is just another bill passed. This could also be bad for HDDVD because of China's history of pirating too in terms of studio support(BD has better protection). And I have a hard time stomaching the idea that the decision of a communist county will decide the format war for the the rest of the world.ÂNot surprised, I think we're going to be seeing alot more of this in the aftermath of CH-DVD. Did anyone else acually read the artice ...
Its just the damn factory acually manufacturing the chips ... SONY can still make the CELL chip if they want ... but instead they are going to use their -JOINTLY OWNED-(with Toshiba) factory while also outsourcing production ...
Outsourcing = cheaper ...
Its also more flexibile ... SONY state how many chips the require and they recieve them ... and if the factory isn't constanly running, the the factory owner not SONY whom has additional costs ...
choasgod
I think your confusing foreign outsourcing and corporate contractual supplying. This does not guarentee it will be cheaper for Sony in the long run...

Its amazing how some people know nothing about Economics but the fact is BR is stomping HD-DVD and will continue to do so even if China supports CH-DVD. Communits countries simply do not have the impact on major entertainment mediums that free trade countrys have, and they never will.
