Sony stops work on Eight Days and The Getaway

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it has cancelled production on two PlayStation 3 titles that were in development at the Sony London Studio - Eight Days and The Getaway.

A statement from the Corporation read as follows: "It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget.

"This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion.

Well, i think it's good news,The Getaway was never a great game and the Eight days was more of a demo than a game.

Sony need to focus on games that have better chance not to turn to be another Liar or Haze.

make them work on God Of War III sony!!

WWWWWWWWHHHHAAAAATTTT?!!! They let their FPSs stay but let these two go? WHY? The Getaway may not be an OH MY GOD must own game, but it offered something that appealed to many.

EDIT: Ok maybe i exaggerated a bit. As long as they are on hold and not cancelled, then sure its fine and dandy. I don't see why they would get so far in developement as they have with the Getaway 3 and just cancel it. It just wouldn't make sense.

Lets hope we see these games soon.

Doesn't mean the games are gone, just means they are on hold while they concentrate on releases that are within the next year and making sure they are the best they can be.

This is a good thing for PS3, folks.

But, I'm sure, hater twists are in the works.

This is sad really sad, i have felt this some time now, casual era is KILLING gaming. Instead of Eight Days sony put money in to Singstar/Buzz and that crap. LBP maybe is ok but:evil:

After internal reviews, that says alot. If they really needed man power on other titles, they wouldn't have required an internal review of such games. They reviewed it, realized it wasn't worth it and ceased them. If they were going to be 'awesome' they'd hope to develop faster for a stronger 08/09 line-up. Obviously not.

Oh Noes, both were must not buys for me anyway. The Getaway was truely aweful imo.

Was'nt Eight Days the so called groundbreaking uber game that psm or someone had an exclusive (see bs) look at? The same one on all those must have lists from cows based on a short cgi of a woman?

I have mixed feelings. I am dissapointed because I thought these games showed promise, but I am relieved if they stopped production on these games if they sucked, lol.

It's a shame though, I thought The Getaway looked good.

Meh I don't agree. Sure they should cancel them if they come in the way of other titles' budget, something like the Team Ico Project for instance.

Still, I have to admit that I was very impressed with the Getaway demo footage at the time. Eight Days as well to an extent... But yeah, if it comes in the way of other --more important-- titles, then it's definitely understandable.

I liked the Eight Days tech demos and CGI trailer and hoped they could make something out of it ....... but the new sheriff in town (Yoshida) dropped the hammer on them. Taken from someone possibly in the know ..... "Eight Days was in development hell from the day it started until the day it ended."

Now the Getaway , that game seems like it only got to pre-production and I personally wasn't interested in the game anyway. I never bothered playing either of the other games. I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to the franchise at some point because it is a nice selling title in Europe.

Really? What were the release dates before and what are they now?

And they are doing this to get titles closer to release to be as best as they can be. So, in fact, it's keeping many titles on point.

I knew it. I have said many, many times that Eight Days was vaporware.I'm surprised about the Getaway though. It was a crap franchise anyway.

Here's the problem with that train of thought. Those 2 games were among the first games announced (sort of) for the PS3. If they are shelving them in favor of other titles, then there is a serious problem. Ususally when production on a game is stopped they don't go back to it..The dev house usually starts on other projects.
