Sony sued again over PS3!!

Toronto-based encryption development company Certicom Corp. has initiated litigation against Sony Corporation, and related Sony companies, for patent infringement. Products affected include Playstation 3, DVD players, VAIO personal computers and certain high definition TV models and audio equipment. In its court filing in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, Certicom alleged infringement concerning two United States patents used in the content protection technologies found in Sony products. The patents-in-suit are two of Certicom's fundamental patents used in consumer electronics, in particular its world-leading version of Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC).

I know you didn't miss the sarcasm in my post.  The real deal here is that sony probably did infringe on the patents and smaller companies like these need the revenues.  If sony had accidentally tripped over a patent filed by a company such as apple suddenly it would have a lot more validity.

In the real world, there is no such thing as a witch hunt on a particular brand either.  This company would have gone after MS just as quickly if they thought they could prove that there was an infringement.  These companies are out for money just like any other.  I am not saying Sony intentionally overlooks patents either.  I was just replying to a fanboy post with a bit of flamebait.

It's probably a new model of DVD.  I am sure DVD technology has evolved since the original DVD.

This is very true, but its possible that the technology behind them was altered to use this companies technology for price saving, etc.  Without knowing the details of the suit, we can sit here and babble all day.
