sony to jump on the tablet bandwagon this summer .

Not content with Xperia Play and Next Generation Portable, Sony plans for another device launch this year - its very own tablet.

The report comes from Japanese newspaper Nikkei (read byBloomberg), which carried confirmation from Sony CEO Howard Stringer.

The tablet will run Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb software and be available in North America by late summer.

not going to lie, a lot of sony products outside of their core t.v.'s, ps3, blur-rays, and laptops rarely get much attention and support by sony post launch. In fact sony is notorious for overpirced crud. I think their ps3 is the first sony product worth the money you pay. i dont expect much out of this tablet tbh, especially with apple cornering the market.

I gotta add, Xperia Play does look like a slick phone but the battery life is an issue for me.:( NGP is pretty robust but I'm happy with my 3DS.:)

As for the tablet, Sony was bound to make one of their own, seeing as how big they are nowadays.:P

I dislike tablets too, but I enjoy Apple products because of their simplicity and love my iPhone.:)

I still wouldn't buy an iPad though.:P I moved on from a 2nd gen iPod Nano to an iPhone and don't plan on switching because of their insane prices.:P

Not surprising.

Almost every major computer company (and some cell phone ones) have plans for a tablet.

Why would sony be an exception.

Just focus on making the NGP as awesome as possible dammit. Why can't they realize that we don't want this crap? And a tablet won't do them any good. Apple has a very large piece of the market and those that refuse to buy an Apple product will get an Android tablet by a company with more Android experience(Samsung, Motorola, HTC)
