Looks like the negative reviews score have Sony backing down on egregious MTs

From Eurogamer

Gran Turismo 7 players get a million free credits and ability to sell cars as Sony addresses troubled launch

A new update is promised in early April that will make greater moves to improve the in-game economy, as detailed below:

  • Increase rewards in the events in the latter half of the World Circuits by approximately 100% on average.
  • Addition of high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/All Bronze results.
  • Increase of rewards in Online Races.
  • Include a total of eight new one-hour Endurance Race events to Missions. These will also have higher reward settings.
  • Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr.
  • Increase the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.
  • Beyond that there will be more World Circuit events added, full-on endurance events including 24-hour races, online time trials with proper payouts and - most significantly - players will be able to sell cars in their virtual garages for credits.

thanks Sony!

You can like a game and still be critical of it. I love GT as a series.

do you not think Sony should have backed down then?

Still no comments regarding the tickets. The only thing that irks me about the game is that there is no other way to grind those rigged drop rate tickets than to do the daily workout. Sure its easy to do but 1 per day is such shit payout.

So they don't remove any MTs, just make them easier for people to accept.

Then I think people bitched about the wrong thing.

Selling MTs day one in a game you already sell for 70 bucks is pretty fucking far from ok in my book. If you can now easily get everything you want in the game without having to pay an extra cent, then yeah, good that they made the MTs useless. Doubt that's the case though.

Sony backs away from trying to milk the living daylights out of their fans.

Really, they didn't have a choice. People were threatening to give up on the game completely because of the in game economic throttling.

Is 100% increase in rewards enough? Someone was saying you can do this long ass Le Mans race and only get 5000 credits for that.

I still don't get why Sony wants realistic pricing. It's just pretentiousness imo. It's a VIDEO GAME Sony, get over yourselves. Maybe this is what they mean by "The Real Driving Simulator". How real is this meant to be? Should people worry about an in-game house and mortgage in the entry classes? "you won five thousand, but you have bills to pay". What is this?

500K credits? If I remember correctly people were angry having to pay 2 or 3 million credits for cars and needing to spend $20-$40 to buy cars that would cost $5 in GT Sport. Seems all that is still there, so 500K credits is pretty much a pittance, and the outrageous prices of cars is still there. They just cut the grind time down by half but seems no mention of problems mentioned before about the more people play they get less reward. Still appears this is still an aggressive monetization strategy and all it seems they've done is attempt a shallow PR maneuver. No doubt the real reason for all this will surface when they try using this to go to MetaCritic and be "we fixed it so you can remove the negative user reviews".

It's a million credits though.

We know that this is not the Gran Turismo experience you expect and we will be making a goodwill gesture in the form of a non-paid credit pack of 1 million Cr. available to those players who may have been affected*. You will see this hit your accounts shortly. Make sure you log into the game before April 25 to claim the credits.

@HalcyonScarlet: Le Mans was updated from 5K to 70K credits in the first nerf patch. A 100% increase is doubling the amount of credits so Le Mans would in theory be 140K plus the bonuses. Yes, it's a 24m race and isn't ideal for grinding but it's not exactly one you'd perhaps want to grind anyways.

Fwiw, he whole "real world pricing" thing isn't a Sony thing, it's a PD / Yamauchi thing. He clearly only wants devote or skilled drivers to be able to own and use legendary cars. The idea of "you're not good enough for this car" is definitely bull****. I should be able to race in a 800 horsepower car and be dog**** in it. lol

Mmmmm, 100% increase.

Is this prior to the nerf rate, or 100% over the nerfed rate? Which wouldn't be 100%, as the initial reduction was anywhere from a third to fifty percent.

🙄

Eh, Sony can piss off. Nothing precludes them from shifting back in the future, and they’ve lost my goodwill and any trust I had for them. I expected more from them than EA tier exploitative antics (much less in one of their longstanding, proud premium IPs) that demonstrates nothing but contempt for the consumer, alongside shoveling out excuses to justify the monetization that are downright insulting to the intelligence.

Wouldn't surprise me if selling cars was a plan to give this option back to the players, so when they do, everyone focuses on this instead of mtx ranging from $40 to $200😆

It’s a very good move for them. They are aware of their mistakes, listen to the players and try to fix those mistakes quickly.

I think people's trust in GT7 is recoverable if they can carry out what they promised firmly. ER also had issues with its PC port and got review bombed at launch, but FromSoft was able to fix most of them quickly, and so now its Steam user reviews have recovered to 88% positive.

I haven't played GT7 yet because I've been too busy with ER and HFW, but I'm looking forward to playing it soon.

@MirkoS77: "Is this prior to the nerf rate, or 100% over the nerfed rate?"

Exactly what I am thinking, if they were decreasing payouts but now just not by as much it's really not any less of a scheme to drive monetization. Plus if the cars that would cost $5 in GT Sport are still 2/3 million credits ($20-40) then that also is still an unresolved issue. This is just lip service for gullible fools who see this and say "thank you Sony for listening to the players" to gobble up.

Funny, that's pretty much what happened with Horizon Forbidden West. People got upset because Sony initially promised if people bought it on PS4 they'd get the PS5 version no extra cost, when it became clear that wasn't going to happen people got angry, then Sony reversed that (sort of, convoluted work-around) and people were celebrating the one time reversal kind of forgetting the whole issue of $70 games and paid next gen upgrade for everything else.

They gave me a million credits, which is nice. At least they're willing to listen to their fans. I forgive them. However, I still wish they would take away those stupid micro-transactions. It makes the developers look like a bunch of money hungry dirtbags (not saying that they are dirtbags -- I am just saying how they appear).

I'm not going to sit here and pretend like MS is a SAINT. Yes they're giving unbelievable value now, but they also have their own history of exploiting gamers. Thankfully we have Phil spencer for now, but once he retires?? Who knows what direction MS will take.

Still, I don't think MS has been nearly as bad as sony has recently. Jeez...gt7 milking is so bad, that it makes far more sense to buy the car with real cash, than spend the ridiculous amount of time grinding.

@Litchie: The MT are for lazy people who don't want to play the game to unlock stuff, I dont care if they charge those idiots $5 or $1000 for each car as it won't impact me in any way possible. It's just trolls and fanboys bitching and whining now about them. If you're forced to use MT to progress in the game or let's say there's a vehicle that you can't buy with in game currency, then yeah **** Sony, this though is just morons looking for something to latch onto and bitch about.

You mean people who spend time participating in a hobby are lazy for not wanting to waste more time than is needed? So, laziness is now defined as people who don't play enough games to grind for virtual items?😂

@Pedro: Why buy the game then? If I don't wanna race and earn credits and earn vehicles why would I buy a game that's centered around that? 🤔 😂

Hey I really wanna play the next Elden Ring, hopefully for $40 I can buy the ending though and skip the rest of the game.

I never thought it was that big of a deal in the first place, but I guess some good did come out of it if it means they will cut down on that shit in the future. I do want fair pricing in the upcoming live service games.

Honestly with GT7 though, I haven't spent any real money and I haven't had any issues getting the cars I want so far.. then again I'm not playing 8 hours a day and trying to complete entire collections either. I just save until I have enough to buy the one car I have an eye on and then move on.

Either way, I guess some good did come from review bombing... but I still don't like that shit. Not for any game on any platform.

So you don’t believe that MTXs have had any impact on the balancing of the in-game economy to push players towards their embracement?

What if the races handed out 1,000 credits instead of 30,000 and cars remained at 18,000,000? Would you still argue “the MT are for lazy people who don't want to play the game to unlock stuff”?

An exaggeration obviously, but I’m doing it to highlight the point: at what point would you come out and say, “okay, this is becoming a bit unreasonable“? Because your argument appears black and white…..that as long as the potential exists, no matter how absurdly balanced, to earn cars through gameplay, anyone who feels like it’s unnecessarily burdensome to attain is “whining” and is a troll or fanboy.

Would that ever not be the case, and where would you draw the line?
