This is a reaction tactic to the threat to traditional boxed consoles, contrary to what most game consumers believe, there is a problem in the gaming industry at the moment. Yes we consumers do not really feel it because we have essay access and options everywhere, but the major manufacturers are having a real hard time, these are also being passed the major publishers who are getting disillusioned with the way forward.

Most gamers are already matured, what we do not observe is the next consumers are kids in line to continue the growth of the industry, guess what is happening, these kids are playing minecraft on PC, Tablets and stuff. The numbers do not lie, the handheld market has been taken over by the mobile/tablet space and given the quick refresh rate of technology in that space, it will not be suprising to see that ''killer app'' that sends traditional consoles to the gutter, that along with the fact that the major manufacturers do not have the complete support of software development houses like they once did. Most publishers these days prefer to spread their products to any device irrespective of the health of the industry, given that these publishers like EA want to make profit, it is no suprise that major manufacturers are now paying for exclusive contents.

This new culture of software manufacters is reducing the ease of entry into the industry too, OUYA launched from kickstarter, then there is Nvidia shield etc, this situation is reminiscent of the early console years when so many consoles flooded the market which inevitably led it into the crash. Not saying the situation is similar, but there are cracks openning everywhere, Capcom has no money to make games, believe it or not but they do not have money to make big budget games anymore, it is no wonder they are making DeepDown in conjuction with Sony World Wide Studios, i suspect its a similar situation with Dead Rising. Either way, all we can do fold our hands and wait till the dust settles, we would see who would go down, who would remain and who would morph

Well i guess it is increasingly becoming an inevitable faith, however though i remain skeptical due to the lack of robust internet facilities around the globe, internet is not actually as easy to get as water so that streaming device remain to be seen. Also if it does turn out that this new consoles are the last of their kind, then its not only Sony that is affected but all the major manufacturers including Nintendo n Microsoft would be affected

It'd be a huge win for consumers if Sony did away with platform exclusivity but that defeats the only unduplicable element of the platform.  Shuhei is using Gaikai as an example, but imagine if Sony could create their own version of Steam available on PCs.  Why not make it happen?  The real money in videogames isn't made from selling hardware but from attach rate (and peripherials).  

I'm all for it if Sony could make it work.

Sometime in the future that will be true. No more PC/PS/Xbox/Nintendo gaming systems.

This is pretty huge. And it mean Sony is being smart about the future of mainstream gaming. 

If I can play PS4 game son ym PC without having to prchase a PS4, well, that's more money in their pocket, 'cause they won't have to subsudize a console for someone like me, who's only going to pick up a handful of their exclusive AAA games, that probably cost an arm and a leg to develop. So instead of representing a net loss, or maybe a few bucks profit, not I represent several hundred dollars profit to them.

As I've said before, the age of traditional ocnsoles is comign to an end. Smart TV's smaller, streaming devices, gaming on mobile screes like tablets and laptops - that's the future of the mainstream gamer. 

As a PC gamer, of course, I'll get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

The problem is it'll most likely require you to own Playstation hardware in order to get the service.

Sony, along with the other console makers, tend to lose money on hardware they sell, and make money through software. Imagine if there was just one licensed, standard "gaming" hardware that any hardware maker could produce (much like any hardware maker can make PCs or blu-ray players, or TVs, or whatever), and Sony/MS/Nintendo just made their software for that in addition to all the other developers out there?

We'd get cheaper hardware, and Sony/MS/Nintendo wouldn't have to invest a billion dollars into funding new hardware products. They could just constantly make a profit on software.

Streaming doesn't work well for most people.  In fact, there are more people in the world that don't have an active internet connection than do :P.

What do you have against Killzone? Fantastic graphics (for console and maybe even for PC), gritty gameplay, realistic gun recoil and physics, etc. I love Killzone and would love to play it on PC. C'mon, mate. Be a good sport.

Some reason I preferred it this gen.  I think it might actually just be the controller I really like, I loved PGR as well.

This sounds good to me. I have a bunch of great PS1 games and PS2, also PSP games that can't be played because they got scratched or whatever or aren't available for download. Legend of Legaia, Brave fencer Musashi, Jak X, Dark Cloud 2, Crisis Core, Birth By Sleep, I have a backwards compatible PS3 but the games still don't work, they got really messed up. A dedicated streaming service for PS games would be oh so sweet. I'd pay top dollar right away.
