I agree they should leave it alone (since Dark Souls is already on their systems) but I dont agree they dont have the talent. Â

Plenty of their studios have a lot of talent. Â Naughty Dog, media Molecule, Santa Monica, and more.
None of them have any experience making RPGs. :|Also, Media Molecule. Only Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica are the ones you could legitimately argue.
Get From to do it or bust. I really don't trust many (if any) studios to make a Soul like game. Even then, I rather From just keep doing Dark Souls (since I find it to be better than Demon's Souls in many ways. Dat lore) or work on something new in the Souls series instead of Demon's Souls...

that doesn't prove anything. Once you have the blue-prints of something anybody can make it, just look at the COD series that has like 4 different developers. And beside, the idea for the game came originally from Takeshi Kajii and Takahiro Kaneko which are from SCE. FromSoftware wanted to make a King's Field's sequel and Sony said "no" because:
"I am a fan of From Software, but naturally that also means there are parts of their games I'm not satisfied with too" -Takeshi Kajii
Â
Demon's Souls was the way it was because of SCE Studios and for prove just look at all the mediocrity FromSoftware created before it. Not even a single decent game since the PS1!
Anyone who has played the King's Field games and Shadow Tower Abyss, knows that's where Demon's Souls came out of. Yes the lead director didn't want to make a sequel for them but that was more due to the fact that the King's games follow each other story wise and they wanted to tell a different story. Core gameplay speaking, it was a mix from their older titles (Difficulty from King's, gameplay from Shadow). From has had years to sharpen the genre. It'd be silly to assume someone like Naughty Dog or even SCE could just pick up the genre and make it as good if not better than the original. It'd be like asking them to do a visual novel. Eventually they (As could anyone that has a chance) could even surpass From but there's no way they'd do it on the first game, and even then, there's no way to know if they could ever get to that standard.
If Sony wants to make Demon's Souls 2, they KNOW they need From.
Edit: As for From, they showed that they don't need SCE considering Dark Souls was superior to Demon's. In everything but atmosphere.
[QUOTE="charizard1605"] No, SCE Japan has never made an RPG in house.sanim02

Legend of Dragoon was developed by them, as well as Yoshida himself..
If I recall, he was a mega huge N64 kid back then, so he wouldn't know the glory of the PSOne when it was relevant and new.
The N64 was amazing for exclusives, but as an older gamer it wasn't nearly enough to satiate my gaming needs back then...especially in the RPG and Fighting game categories.
It's interesting to see gamers that grow up and later get into enjoying RPGs, but didn't crave them back in the N64 era. I bought Quest 64 for $60, but a piece of **** that game was. The N64 was literally one of the worst machines to own if you loved RPGs back then.
From's Demon's Souls was a seminal game; Sony completely dropped the ball on its publishing, and From went on to do bigger and better things, creating the Dark Souls series, which has since become the premier JRPG series of the generation.
However, what about Demon's Souls itself? Will we ever see a sequel?
Game Informer: Sony owns the Demons Souls IP. What are you going to do with it?
Shuhei Yoshida: We never sell our IPs. Well, I should never say never, but its not our business. Our business is to grow our IP and we love Demons Souls. From Software is a very important business partner, so well see.
It's a non confirmation, but at least it's good to see that it's not considered an inactive IP by Sony.

Sony never owned those IPs Naughty Dog and Insomniac were both owned by Vivendi Universal when they made Crash and Spyro; Sony was only the publisher and when Naughty Dog and Insomniac left Vivendi to become independent they had to give up Crash and Spyro; Kind of like how when Microsoft granted Bungie its freedom they were forced to give up Halo."We never sell our IPs."

I'd love to see a rivalry start up between Demon Souls and Dark Souls franchise with From Software and Studio Japan trying to outdo each other with each installment.
It would also mean they would try harder and give us better games since there's competition.

Which studio has the talent?Since Dark Souls 2 is going to be released for PS3/360/PC, it would be HUGE if Sony would make a proper Souls game on next gen hardware. I just can't think of any developer under Sony that is capable of delivering a quality Souls games since none of Sony's sfirst party makes RPGs.

Um... all of them? None of Sony's internal studios have ever made a game like that before, and none of them have any experience with that kind of game design. Expecting them to fill a void that From invented when literally none of them have made a game with, or proven they could make a game with, similar design philosophies, is insane.[QUOTE="BPoole96"]

From Software wasn't even decent before Demon's Souls so it was actually their first major break.
You can't really say none of those studios have the talent if they've never tried that type of genre before.
I wouldn't say they would be successful if they tried and make a game like Demon's Souls but some of Sony's internal studios are quite talented with the games they've made.

From's early Armored Core games were fantastic. They were more than a decent studio. I said "they don't have the talent to make that game," not "they're not talented." What is the relevance of Demon Souls when Dark Souls already exist?....some may claim competition but in the creative industry, if you cannot create a unique product that can be identified to be yours, you may as well quit doing art in general, the notion of copy and paste is ridiculously growing in games these days and to further invest in an IP that is closely identical to what already exist is a shame on artistic integrity. Please we do not need more Crystal Dynamics in the industry, we need people who can introduce new experiences or take what already exist and turn it on its head, not people who just want to copy and paste succesful formalas
I would literally die, replaying Demons Souls right now and loving every minute of it the same as my first playthrough.

I'd love to see just any random studio try to create a game like Dark Souls. They'd fail miserably in every department. It wouldn't even touch the story and lore of Dark Souls. Also that last part is pretty piss poor evidence.
