Sony's Jim Ryan: PS5 price will reflect its value proposition.

...Back when we spoke to Ryan in the before times, he spoke about the transition between PS4 and PS5 happening "at a scale and pace that we've never delivered before." He says that ambition remains the same. Yet with the possibility of a deep recession, surely that poses a challenge when trying to sell a high-priced piece of consumer electronics?

"Recent history has told us that gaming is one of the pastimes, and one of the businesses, that benefits in economically difficult times," Ryan suggests. "It's quite logical, people don't have the money to go out so they stay at home. Now, who knows how this recession is going to look, how deep it will be and how long it will last. It could be that the historic templates, the historic models, that have applied in the past may not apply in the future.

"I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don't necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games... all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform."

I'm taking that as it will $499 lol. Maybe $450, but I don't think the PS5 will be $400. What do you think the price will be, SW?

Been saying it for a year, it will launch at $499. If they didn't waste their time on the stupid ssd, and simply put a standard 1tb ssd, the console could've been $450 easily.

2) Sony consistently putting out exclusives that get critical acclaim.

I say the PS5 is a much better spopt just been 18% behind,knowing that at least when you buy a PS console fantastic high rated games will arrive period the xbox can't even guarranty that any more.

Um, really? It seems like the CEO of Playstation just made it very clear they are working on games right now exclusively for the PS5.

Both will be $499, and honestly if you have a problem paying that then you have other life concerns much deeper than gaming. Priced as of May 2020 to build an equivalent PS5 PC you would have to spend a minimum $1300 and by November that price to match will not magically come down to $499.
