...all the while Microsoft enjoys revenues from its entertainment division. Face it- Sony focused on movie distribution in a new medium (bluray) and MS focused on games this go round. It is obvious why the numbers are the way they are. IMO Sony did so well with the PS2 they thought they would have the gaming market locked in hands down. So they made the big mistake of focusing on movie distribution and gaming was an afterthought due to pride and arrogance of being number one.

Ummm, sure PS3 is a failure, but so is the 360. You don't have to compare them, they fail on their own merit.

Yeah, not enough casual games. Sorry M$ and Sony, I'll stick to the Wii for my carnival games.

take off your fanboy goggles and look at the big picture, and what they went from with the ps2, to where they are at right now. there biggest game is damn near a movie. with more hours of cutscenes than gameplay.

You can't blame sony for MGS4 having so many cutscenes, since all the previous games did.. I don't see the argument there, their focusing more on movies.. and their biggest game is like a movie.. that just ended up being a coincidence, since MGS has always been one of their biggest titles, and it just happenes to be that way.

I own one blu-ray movie, and its Spiderman 3 that came with it, I have a lot of PS3 games, more then 360 ones, so I don't really see the argument, but oh well.

"Fanboy goggles"? Oh, that's original......

And you're talking about the PS2? The first console that had a built-in DVD player? And the bolded statement is garbage and you know it.

Actually there is a plethora of casual goodness on the 360. So you can still be happy with your 360, unless maybe your being sarcastic.:P

Yet PS3 is still outselling 360 YTD, and PS3 has 1AAAAE and 1 AAAE this year yet 360 has no AAAAE or AAAE this year, so Sony is doing something right. Comparing any system to the PS2 is not a fair fight, PS2 destroys anything gaming console related

Sony did spend some time focusing on winning the format war against MS. But to say Sony "has failed" when it comes to games is BS. This gen is FAR from over. Sony is attempting to ramp up their gaming side, this is apparent with all the great exclusives about to hit shelves over the next few months.

Xbox 360 will pass the xbox sales soon, I think it is doing pretty well for itself. It has reached out to more people then the original. Passed the xbox sales in Japan. Don't see how xbox 360 is a failure, besides the hardware side.

The numbers are the way they are because 360 launched first. PS3 sales rates>360 sales rates. ;)

Sony did have a big emphasis on movies this go around, though they still put a lot on games as well. You can't go into a Wal-Mart without seeing a PS3 with the Blu-Ray players and a sign that says,"I play Blu-Ray movies."

So just because Sony focused their PS3s for 'movies' does that mean it's a bad thing?

If their other products such as the PSP and PS2 are selling well for the 'gaming' side, then why should they worry about the 'gaming' side for the PS3 if people are just buying them for movies?

Mind you, the PS2 was a cheap DVD player when it came out which helped quite a bit. Same goes for bluray in thsi situation. People highly underestimate the Sony business model and just focus on games. The games are coming my friend.

The format war was not with MS. MS only went along with HD-DVD to slow down BR. MS wants digital distribution and didn't really care about HD-DVD.

I think M$ did the right thing by focusing on digital distribution when HD-DVD went down the toilet. There is 400 titles right now but when the next dashboard update hits there is going to be 10000 movies... SD and HD. Do you know how long I've been waiting for a movie distribution service like this? It's going to be way better than any disc based medium.

People may be surpsied at the amount of games Sony developed or published for the PS3 in it's first year. And aside from Lair, they are all widely regarded as good/great.

um 360 fans shut your clamp , its my turn , ,seiening as microsoft couldnt even hold on to the lead for less then a year, and your running your trap, well lets not forget the countless broken 360s there are,

and the billions lost to ms for fixing them for free, minus 1 which ms refused to fix for mee lol,

ive owned a ps3 and wii since they came , 2 wiis in fact , not one of these 3 had a single problem

and lets talk backwards capabilities, microsofts is flawed , timesplitters 2 3 does not work , many of the goood games like that dont work ,

the ones that do look like trash ,

but wii and ps3 60 gb old 80 gb and 20 gb handles thier respective prodecesors games very accurately ,

lets talk the price of owning one lol,

sure your 360 is as low as 199 , but that doesnt include the cost of a dead hddvd player a mic a componant cable , play and charge kit a game , a wireless adapter, the 50 membership fee, oh god , the worst part is when live is down you actually lose a day of your membership ya, it says 12 months but expect less , lol due to down time on countless ocasion most notable is the big down time i had last year id say a week for me befroe they fixed it even now i cant trade cars on test drive unlimited,

somthin wrong

now lets see what exclusives 360 had

perfect dark zero -what a joke play the n64 one youll see why

kameo -ok but not as good

pgr 3 and 4 are the only awsome ones i can think of ,

halo 3- another goldeneye wannabe try harder bungie ,,

gears- havent played, not gonna coment on that

saints row 1- pretty awsome

and ex exclusive dead rising, as of when wii gets dead rising its no loner an exclusive, so ya but ok

so simply put it 90 percent of all exclusives on 360 arent as good as their hyped to be and even if they were , 360 has to many problems for me ,

but ya sony messed up this gen ,, no doubt but you cant deny microsofts inability to keep the top spot,

call it if you will, i jus think this market favors sony and nintendo more then microsoft,

Look at the current sales figures. Worldwide in just about 3 years the 360 has sold around 20 million consoles. In just two years the PS3 has sold 14.5 million consoles. I have a feeling that the gap is going to close dramatically this holiday season. Sony is going to continue to pump out quality games for the next serveral months and into next year. By next November the PS3 should have surpassed the 360 in total console sales even though the 360 had a year head start.

With that said however, I do feel that Sony made a huge mistake by choosing Blu-Ray for their media format. There really isn't any need for it this generation. As was mentioned before, I think the movie market is going to shift toward the digital side of things. People simply aren't ready to embrace a new video format when it's more expensive, and lets be honest, the average consumer isn't going to see an increase in video quality that's enough to convince them that a change is needed. Trying to force the change isn't going to work either. They should have stuck with DVD's and they could have significantly cut their production cost allowing them to market the PS3 at or around the 360's price point at launch. If this were the case I doubt we'd even be having this conversation now.

Sony made the right move implementing the Blu-ray drive. If 360 had a built-in HD-DVD drive, there would have been an awesome battle in the video market....a monopoly of one hd format isn't a good thing imo.

Yep but they have just finally started to realize games are what matters. And I don't think it's too late to turn the tables. But yeah your right at the very start of the PS3's life span, sony didn't give a flying cow about games in general. They thought they could just throw some HALO clone(RFOM) on there console and hey presto the gamers start rolling in. Doesn't work like that Sony.. Least I hope it doesn't.

They increased their marketshare worldwide. That is NOT a failure, the 360 is a success. Right now Sony is the only failure because they are the only one to lose marketshare this gen.

I have to respectfully disagree. The desparity between recent sales of each console can be explained through the application of simple economics. When prices are higher, demand falls. Lets hope you're all smart enough to apply what I just described, the law of demand, to this particular situation.

I don't see how the PS3 can "dramatically close the gap this holiday season":

-A 360 can be had for $200.

-A standalone BluRay player can be had for $200 now, and will probably be down to $175 for holiday sales.

So basically, as a game console and as a BluRay player, the PS3 has passed it's sweet spot in cost. And unfortunately for Sony, the cost will most likely have a dramatic impact this holiday season, especially in the economic crunch.

take off your fanboy goggles and look at the big picture, and what they went from with the ps2, to where they are at right now. there biggest game is damn near a movie. with more hours of cutscenes than gameplay.

little big planet doesnt have cut scenes.

UHOH look out ps3 has 1AAAAE *only here and surfice to say i doubt the game industry takes gamespot seriously or holds their reviews to the highest standard* and its sold by how much more? isn't it like 2 million only? thats not much and recently its been selling very very badly in its home turf, america...lol
