Look i'm a huge PS3 fan and i got GTA-IV on release day too, as well as many others, but whether you want to admit it or not GTA-IV gets old at about 4 to 5 hours into the game, all the driving back and forth really gets boring after a while, especially once they stop showing you the most direct route to your next location and just put these little dots on the map that you have to find your way back and forth to and pretty soon you find your self wishing they had a fast travel feature similar to Oblivion, so once you've been to a location you don't have to drive all the way back if your no where near it, you just hop in the car bring up the map and select the location you want to fast travel to, especially if your in the middle of a mission and you have to worry about finding your way to your next location while the cops are coming after you, because then it's really frustrating.

Now Metal Gear 4, well it's just a flawless work of art, with absolutely no imperfections in story, gameplay, graphics or audio, what so ever, it's not to often a game comes along that actually is responsible for selling 75,000 consoles.

I could go on for pages complimenting Metal Gear but it just has to be experienced to understand the sheer phenomenon that Konami truly achieved with this game, and if thats not good enough then read the reviews and perhaps they have found the words you need to realize the greatness that is Metal Gear 4,, because it definitely surpasses GTA-IV.

MGS is cool and all but come on, better than GTA?

Sure I'm as big a fan of mechs mooing and poop jokes as the next guy and I'm sure many share your opinion, I just happen to not be one of them.

No imperfections? Someone didn't play MGO...

microtransactions for the worst things like preset commands and new character slots? Then let's forget the lack of unification with PSN.

Still not terrible by any means, but certainly not perfect.

Also... if you must know.. I'm bitter yes... because I can't play MGS 4 since my PS3 DRE'ed :(

Nah. MGS4 is a great game, but GTA IV just happens to be a tad bit better.

I agree that MGS4 is better than GTA4, but it is in not a "flawless work of art" and neither are 10's as far as I'm concerned. They should've hired a cutscene editor and hired more level designers. That being said, I'm going thru MGS4 for a second time right now and I'm loving all the things I'm picking up on now that I missed before.

PS3nut

No. Just no.

The cutscenes aren't just long, they're drawn out and boring, culminating in 70 uninterrupted minutes of ending. The game gets so bogged down in providing background, it doesn't go anywhere. And the writing is as stilted and over-the-top as ever.

The story is the biggest flaw that game has.

GTA did have fast travel, its called Taxis.

Are you serious ? Texture problems? where? it's already been called the most graphically superior title on any console thus far by almost every reviewer.

Whats wrong with the cover mechanics ? they worked just fine for me, and i didn't hear any reviewers complain about them.

Long cutscenes ?, have you ever played the previous Metal Gears ?, they all have graphically gorgeous cutscenes which by, all add to and help contribute to the Metal Gear story.

As for using Taxis as so called fast travel, no not what i was talking about, because your still physically having to ride in the car during the route to your destination.

Where as if it were like oblivion, you could just get in any car select the destination on the map, and then a brief loading screen appears and suddenly your at your destination, thats what i mean by fast travel.

i have to agree about mgs's textures. i dont know y the hell its been claimed the best visually looking game. that's the most fanboyistic thing ive ever heard. textures in uncharted are better, and it doesnt even touch gears for the 360.

GTA IV was ok but I've already gone through MGS4 two times, I seriously can not stop playing it. On the other hand, I was somewhat relieved to get GTA IV done with. The gameplay is repetitive, and after following the same routes over and over again to repeatedly go to location X and kill X amount of people time after time gets old quick. Don't get me wrong I think GTA IV is great but I think it overstays its welcome. On the other hand, MGS4 has a strict linearity but lets you get from point A to point B in many different ways, all of the difficulty settings add or take away enough to where each setting is much different than another, and there's just so much stuff to unlock. MGS4 is much more fun to play than GTA IV, in my opinion of course.

Can peopel please give examples of the bad textures? Perhaps I am blind but after playing through the game twice there still hasn't been a scene where I am like "wow that texture is pretty bad".

Where? Take your eyes off those character models and look at the enviroment.

Compared to the cover mechanic in other action games, this one is laughable. MGS3's cover was better, you could at least shoot over cover, unlike in this one. It was a step backwards.

Yea i have (all of them), and this one went overboard. It was awkwardly paced. I sat though more than an hour of cutscene at the end of Act 3.

You can skip the taxi rides. You dont have to sit there and wait for the axi to arrive at the location you chose.

All the previous Metal Gear games had cutscenes. In fact, they all had pretty long cutscenes. But none of them match Metal Gear Solid 4 in terms of length and extraneous information. Only Metal Gear Solid 2 rivals it, and even it is outcla55ed.

Just because they add to the series lore doesn't make them worthwhile or good.

Why compare GTA IV with MSG4? They are two COMPLETELY different games for two different audiences. But I must admit...I haven't finished the story in GTA. I got like 20 or so missions to go but its more and more looking like its going back to Gamestop towards a game I'm not tired of. If it weren't for the multiplayer (which I haven't even been playing much since GRID entered my life), it would have been traded-in a long time ago.

I have looked at the environments and I disagree. The cut scenes are long but on most of them you can drive the MK II around. On top of that, there's tons of story telling to do so it's kind of got the Return of the King syndrome where sometimes it feels like it's dragging on but I myself am unsure if there's any other way it could be done better.

seal, is the name of my talking dog. You see, it all started when I through a frisbe over a waste dump. I did not mean to, it just happend. My dog, seal, just ran over the wall. I can't explain how he did it, he did not run up the wall and then over. He just ran over it. You have to see it to understand. Anyway, somthing must of happend to him, becuase he started screaming "this place smells like my ass" so I was like. Who was saying that? it turned out to be seal, my dog. But I did not know it at the time. After that, he walked back over the wall. walked, not ran. You never run over a wall after you walked over it.

So now he talks, It must of bin the toxic waste puddle he fell into. So me and my dog seal, we talk about stuff. His lucky number is 4,becuase he won bingo with it. So that is how I got my account name. So don't get mad at me becasue I have an awsome dog who talks, and I named my account after him.

Talking Dog...okayyyyy, just go to your front door and let the men dressed in white inside they have a very special jacket for you and they'll even escort you to a nice padded room, so you can get plenty of rest.

Even if there is fast travel in GTA-IV by taxi, that means you have to spend time running around trying to find a taxi or try and call one on your cell and wait around for it to arrive, it should be any car you get into should have the fast travel feature....period

Wow this thread is pretty funny  Anyways I agree with TC. As I have said before GTA IV is overrated trash. Can't blame the reviewers though as they would get mad hate if the game didn't recieve good scores.

Dude me too, last night I stayed up til 5am beating the game a second time! I just dunno what it is but when I start playing the game I can't put down the controller. I liked GTA IV a lot but I've never been so into a game like this in years, which is good cuz before this I was worried I was starting to dislike video games.

Well MGS4 is a better game but MGS4 is just a little uder 20 hours long and GTA4 is pretty long, not saying that GTA4 is better cause its longer, just saying GTA4 has more value to it.

With MGS4 you beat it once or twice and then thats it,GTA4 you can beat it and then go back and just drive around and kill people and on top of that us 360 owners willing be getting the dc soon also. And as for online,im not really gonna go into details but as far as MGO goes its really not that great and nothin you would put alot hours into playing,GTA4 online on the other hand....well if you played it im sure you know.

and if gta 4 were ps3 exclusive? he wouldn't be saying this. as for that neither game, gta 4 or mgs 4 deserve 10's the game rankings score for them are overated as well, both games deserve no more then 8.5 in my book.

Ps3nut Stop, plz just stop...

PS3nut

Stop what man it's a forum people come in here to write, debate and some times argue there views on consoles and games of choice thats why it's called a forum..what's your problem?

Haha, yeah seriously. The funny thing is I can't get people to show me these "horrible textures" they are talking about. Someone said the environments look bad texture wise but I don't think that's true at all.

For anyone who thinks the long cut scenes are a flaw in MGS4...

why dont you skip them? you obviously dont care enough about the story to watch them. how can something completely skip-able be anykind of flaw?

besides what else could they have done? taken parts of the story out?

if you want to complain, do so about the odd installs or something, the story and cut scenes make the game imo.

That's not true at all. There's a ton of stuff to unlock with MGS4. Unless you can beat the game in under 5 hours, with no alerts, no continues, and not killing anyone the first play through then I dunno how you can say once you beat it once or twice that's it. Plus, do you know how much time you're going to have to sink into GTA IV just to play through it 2 or 3 times? With MGS4 you can technically beat it in under 5 hours so multiple play throughs is definitely welcome. MGO online was fun for me, people are expecting it to be like COD4 but that's not how Metal Gear is set up. I didn't like the Konami/game id crap you had to go through but oh well. MGS games have never been about online play anyway, it's all about the single player experience!

Yeah seriously. Plus you can mess around with the MK II in the mission breifings which is fun/funny. Did anyone notice what's in Sunny's back pocket in the first mission briefing or that she ends up playing a PSP? I think the cutscenes are just fine, after all they are what connects us to Solid Snake and I gotta say I've never been so connected to the main character of a game like this in years. This kinda brought back the good old days of gaming when I was really young and video games just sucked me in.

I do care about the story. I want to know what's going on. I don't want to skip them. Not only are they clearly meant to be watched, considering how big a part of the experience they are, but most reviews list them as a huge positive, and the game as a relevatory cinematic experience.

But it's really difficult considering how boring they can get.

Yes, they could have taken parts of the story out. Or they could have written it better, so that people didn't have to constantly repeat the same thing over and over. Or they could have scripted it better, so that they didn't spend 3 minutes showing something they could have shown in 20 seconds. Any number of minor editing things.

Just because you have something to say doesn't give you a free pass to say it poorly. And saying that, "well, if you don't like them, you can skip them," doesn't seem to jibe with a game that so many are lauding as practically flawless in all aspects.

I'm glad that when I play through it again, I can skip most of the boring cutscenes.

To comapre these two Epic games is just Wack! GTA 4 in it's own right is indeed a perfect game, so is MGS4. GTA 4 is not for everyone and MGS4 is not for everyone... we all have different tastes.

Each game had a great story but MGS4 towers over this with flying colours, it adds Fiction and Non-Fiction to the story. Bringing everything that has happen in the passed including the Cold War, Cuban Missile Crisis, i have the entire TimeLine in the Add-On to the game from PSN, they take the True and add in their own which somehow fits so perfectly. I dont want to go any further though, may spoil things for those inicent eyes.

Not saying the story in GTA 4 was awful... There were times i felt sorry for poor Niko and his fat cousin. Niko was the type of person you could get along with, infact, out of all the GTA games... He is my favorite main character.

But in every MGS game you felt Emotion which... Not a lot of games even have. It causes you to think and still causes you to scramble for the truth.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I am a freak when it comes to story in a game... i dont care if it has the best graphics! poor story? poor gameplay? = **** to me.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Anyways, overall two great games which deserve many awards and praise but not something for everyone...

So what you're saying is GTAIV didn't touch MGS or you. But MGS did.

I seriously can't see how it's possible to play GTA4 and miss the menu that pops up in the taxi to skip the trip. Fess up man you never played it right?
