Kind of funny in past months this being written up as Sony's answer to Game Pass as they already have PS Now and this would seem more a rebranding effort in hopes it garners and uptick.
Seems for what is written is that older games will be specialized to a certain tier add-on possibly to free up its revenues to focus on acquiring more contemporary offerings with the base subscription revenues. Will also be interesting if they finally cracked the BC issues so game can get support and enhancements running on new hardware so games can be played locally and not require the streaming infrastructure.
Wondering if the tier structure will combine Plus and Now into one recurring subscription price equivalent to the average monthly cost of getting the cheaper annual subscriptions (like Game Pass Ultimate does).
That being said I think they need to do more to grow service, for instance cross platform support for PC with say save transfers and cross platform entitlements, for both rental and retail, so they'll likely need a PC distribution avenue or partner(s). And would be nice if competition compels them to start offering their exclusives day one as well as make their first party catalog accessible. But, baby steps. Don't expect as much in coming days. I imagine if there will be any bombshells in coming days it would be what titles they'll bring to the service day one, as surely their Shadow Warrior 3 PS Now deal was a hint this will be their strategy going forward. Hope it's good because Xbox could certainly use some competition to try harder themselves.
