Under normal circumstances I would say Splinter Cell...but after Double Agent I just don't know. I know Conviction is done by the UbiMontreal guys (who are so much better than DA Shanghai!) but I just don't like the look of it at all. Where the heck are all my shadows gone!?
Chaos Theory was a landmark for this genre! A fantastic and lengthy campaign, a brilliant co-op campaign that was linked to the main storyline and even overlapped each other at one point. Then the Versus multiplayer as well, hands down better than Double Agent.

Give this fanboy a cookie for creativity and improvisation. I actually fully agree though. MGS4 is gonna rule.
I personally prefer mgs due to the fact that you get more hours out of it with a AAA story. But SP owns mgs when it come down to staying in shadows and not being seen. What do you guys think of both?tiger35010

when i read that i imagined you said this:
"look at me, i'm weird and use epic alot, why? i don't know i think saying epic adds so much more to things, its a great adjective, but in reality since it has lost its meaning, it just means i'm weird and the thing i'm talking about is crappier then i say."
so now i lol at u. LOL
MGs> better than SC anytime. Just compare SC to hitman.ff7isnumbaone
lol you sig just screams fake boy!!!!! LMAO
MGS is like a silly dream sequence from Passions or Days of our Lives. that a great description of the game. :P
I suppose thats why Cows love MGS so much, it appeals to their melodramatic nature.

Some ubisoft in japan or something made double agent, ubisoft Montreal are making conviction, which are the same devs that made the first SC and chaos theory.

The fact your comparing the two shows you no nothing about SC, Chaos Theory was one of my favorite games last gen, so was MGS3, SC is a more serious stealth game, MGS is more story driven.

Took the words right out of my mouth.
I agree that double agent was a crap game but a different development team is developing Conviction. The same ones that made the first SC and Chaos Theory. The best 2 in the series, so there is a very high chance Conviction is gonna be a great game, i dunno whether it will be as good as MGS4 though.

Yeah, I know another team made DA on the 360, but that's part of the problem. They made another team make the defining version of the DA on the 360, other than the team that actually delivered the magic with Chaos Theory. WTF?
Conviction is an entirely different formula this time around, not even an improved or refined form of Chaos Theory, but an outright abandonment of the successful gameplay of Chaos Theory.
Despite my almost fanboyish love for Splinter Cell (in the past...) having played through the three last gen Splinter Cells, I have to go with MGS 4.
I loved Splinter Cell once, I believed it was the beat stealthseries out there due to its more realistic take on the genre, with believable heroes and tense gameplay, which demanded stealth at all times. Chaos Theory was the series' peak. Then came along Double Agent, which I expected to be bigger and better than all three Splinter Cells, with the move to the next generation of hardware. It wasn't. To this date, I still can't seem to force myself to finish it.
The Splinter Cell magic is gone and I have serious doubts that it will ever return...

I know what you mean. In my case, I really had to force myself to complete the game, and the whole experience was frustrating. Yes, If I had to sum up DA on the 360, it would be "frustrating". That is because the ON/OFF stealth meter (instead of the sliding bar to denote various degrees of shadow cover), and the cheap AI were a step backwards. It's also frustrating because thiscould have been avoided so simpley.
I don't think I'm in the correct frame of mind to compare an unrealistic stealth action title and an unrealistic stealth action title with robot ninjas riding mech T-rexes with lazer eyes and exploding midget launchers.

Wow, this sounds exactly the same as the Call of Duty franchise.
Call of Duty is made by 2 different developers (Call of Duty 3 was fairly dissapointing and was made by Treyarch).
Then Call of Duty 4 took the series in a different direction and was extremely successful.
Hopefully the same thing happens to Splinter Cell
MGS4. The master piece that was Chaos Theory was ruined by Double Agent. I have no faith in Ubi Soft to restore the magic.Ninja-VoxUbisoft has different studios. The original maker's are doing Conviction. Not to mention, this is virtually a clean slate for a SC game. I'm a huge fan of the MGS games, though Conviction has really intrigued me ever since it was announced. I mean, I got bored with Chaos Theory and Double Agent, but this one seems pretty darn cool.

I'm guessing that people who liked Assasin's Creed are going to like Conviction. They're both made by Montreal, and the formula is very similar. You've played AC, did you like it?

Well if you would have noticed, every alternate game was made by a different dev. The pattern of original dev/Shanghai dev (I believe) stayed consistent throughout the four games. Not only that, I believe Ubisoft really wanted to push AC as a new poster child, instead of SC 5 stealing all the limelight. Both use similar concepts, but use them very differently. By the way, Chaos Theory really was just a refined version of the past two games. I'm glad they're making the change. There's only so much you can milk out of a stealth concept. Yeah I liked it, but not for being a game. It was like an experimental film or something. It had its drawbacks, but I could see past them unlike other people. That's coz I don't play games because they're games :P.[QUOTE="Mordred19"][QUOTE="michael098"][QUOTE="Mordred19"][QUOTE="Ninja-Vox"]MGS4. The SC series is crap, the gameplay is horrible so slow and non creative now, it has basicaly been the same for years now. In convictin, they just decided to mix hitman with assassins creed and called it innovative.

MGS 4 is doing the same too.I don't see why anyone would say the Chaos theory formula is old. how can it be, when it was one game that delivered in spades at the time? the first 2 SC games were good, but Chaos Theory was a complete rebuild of Splinter Cell from the ground up. the trial-and-error gameplay, the linear levels, ect, were all removed in Chaos Theory. I don't see Chaos Theory as a simple refinement over the previous games, but as a necessary evolution. they hit the sweet spot with Chaos Theory, why not go further in that direction? there is room for improvement.
One game is an incredible acheivement, yet building off of that in a sequelwould mean it's milkage? it's not like the video game market is saturated with stealth games. the conviction gameplay change is just going too far in my opinion.
basically, what I mean to say is: because stealth games are a specialized genre that doesn't release as often as other genres, designers should not be in a mad dash to rewrite what works in fear of boring the gamers.
