The nominations in some of those categories really leave me scratching my head.

I suppose I'll just copy & paste from other Spike VGA thread..

That show is meaningless, unfortunately.

It would be great to have a Real TV VG awards & information show that gamers like us who frequent forums like this could appreciate but noooo !!

Oh Wow. I'm surprised to see Lost in Shadow in the Best Wii game Category that game got literally no recognition. it only sold like 100K or somehting in the states.

As with any list, there will be people who will find fault with the nominees in these categories. And though I also disagree with a few things here or there, I do think those nominees reasonably represent the consesus of the industry and gaming fans as a whole. System Warriors are usually more hard core about gaming and don't always represent the popular opinion. Although almost everyone here thinks everyone is wrong but them.

Every year I hope they go legit and stop making us gamers look bad with the half-naked women, sex jokes and bad pop music. And every year, I am disappointed. :|

It would kinda be a bit more credible if developers and people in the industry vote for it instead of us.

Viewer votes don't determine the winner. If you look at the top of each category, it says "Tell the world who should win" then says smaller and in parenthesis that "the VGA Advisory Council votes on winners." So there's a board that decides the actual winners, just like there is for, say, the Academy Awards. No different than the GS Awards. We can vote, and they'll list the winner of the Reader's Choice votes... but the actual winners are the ones the editor's pick.

Edit: For those interested, the members of the advisory council, who decide the VGAs, are:

Andy Mcnamara from Game Informer

Brian Crecente from Kotaku

Chris Baker, Wired

Chris Koehler, Wired

Chris Slate, Nintendo Power

Chris Grant, Joystiq

Dale North, Destructoid

Francesca Reyes, OXM

Gary Steinman, Games Radar

Geoff Keighly, Spike

Jeff Gertsman, Giant Bomb

Jeff Jensen, Entertainment Weekly

Jerry Holkins, Penny Arcade

Mike Krahulik, Penny Arcade

John Davison, CBS Interactive

Logan Decker, PC Gamer

Lou Keston, the Associated Press

Mike Snider, USA Today

Rich Greenhill, Yahoo Games

Sam Kennedy, IGN/1Up

Scott Alexander, Playboy

Shane Satterfield, Spike

Stephen Totilo, Kotaku

Tal Blevins, IGN

Tina Amini, Complex Magazine

I didn't know there was a thread already.

Some nominees are rather strange. Some games aren't even out yet. The Witcher 2 not in the Best RPG and Best Adapted catagories. A extra character as the best DLC. Deus Ex not nominated for best shooter. Battlefield 3/The Witcher 2 not in the best graphics catagory and instead they choose LA Noire, Rage and Uncharted 3 and probably some other stuff as well.

Also, what's up with the catagory for best performance by a human? Why human?
