The developers played MGS4, and scrapped their game after that.
After they unlock all the MGS4 stuff, they will get started on SC again.

lol :P
i believe mgs4 had some sort of impact on the games design.
basically after mgs4 launched and all the reviews came in. ubisoft said they were going back to the drawing board on splinter cell conviction lol
they obviously did 'crap their pants' in one way or another :P
at the moment its targeted for a 2009 release

:lol:Yep. After playing MGS4 they realised graphics don't really matter so they are releasing SC on portables.Â
I don't think it was just Metal Gear Solid 4, but a whole host of other things. I mean, it was about to be released alongside Assassin's Creed as well, which was very similar in design.
Honestly, I hope it doesn't go back to the drawing board, because what they had was simply amazing. It was superficially similar to Assassin's Creed, but played the crowd game very differently. In fact, the concept they had going is still revolutionary by our very rapidly evolving standards. I hope they don't change much of it, to be honest.
realism?? LOL
you hide in the shadows with your glowing bright green goggles and guards cant see you?
i dont think neither game had the realism part pinned down to be honest.

I wish more devs were like this. Dont just release games to cash in. If you see another project being alot better than yours, go back to the drawing board. I dont care if people say "bu bu Ubisoft copied Kojima" as long as the game is better, gamers are happy. I hope SC:C comes out really good :D

yes this!!!! the man speaks godly truth!
its actually a good thing because it will make ubisoft want to make their product even better!!!
i too hope the game turns out well cos i can play on my pc i didnt like double agent that much so im hoping this one decides to do a 'mgs4' on us

Do you know how far developers can take realism before the masses start crying that it's just not fun anymore?
Look at Red Orchestra, home of the niche crowd.
I would've thought it was obvious to everyone that the green goggles were merely an aid for the player to note where his character is, not the people in the game. And really, I got that at 13.

ok fair enough maybe not a good example. it was just something more obvious to state rather than have to dig around.
but i think its pretty clear that neither game has realism pinned down.
splinter cell may have been slightly more realistic cos its down to earth but its far from very realistic. mgs4 is realism and kojimas fantastic imagination mixed lol
lets just hope conviction comes back as a knight in shining armous when we see it again in the future

Yeah, the game had such realistic lighting(on PC and Xbox) that when you hid in the darkest shadows, the green lights on the goggles helped you keep track of Sam's position on-screen. I feel sorry for people that played SC on the GC or PS2. Man, those versions were gimped BAD in the graphics department.
I dont know how this thread turned into a splinter cell vs. metal gear solid 4 thread.I just wanted some info on the conviction game and im not even a fan of mgs4.Anyways if ubisoft wants to delay the game to make it that much better than im fine with that.Im just wanting a new splintercell game thats as great as the previous games,or even better.I love the splinter cell series and im looking forward to the next game.loudharley
This is system wars for you.

Those are glowing for you, so you can actually see Sam.

I can understand if you like something better than another, but to dislike MGS4, but love SC is very odd.
Me, I own every SC game, but even I know the gameplay was getting repetitive, and they needed to freshen it up. Still, being that I like the stealth genre, I really don't have a choice in my slim pickings. This year, for 2008, if I wanted to play a stealth game, my only choice as a stealth fan was MGS4. That's how it goes when the genre you love doesn't make many games.
I love 2D fighting, but since the pickings are slim, I play a LOT of 3D fighting games for the same reason.
IT'S THAT or NOTHING. As a gamer, I'm not going to choose NOTHING.
IF you had to choose between buying a SC game, over a MGS game, that's one thing, but there was no SC game to get this year. In fact, I don't think there was any Stealth games out this year except for MGS4.
Ah well, people have different tastes, but you asked a question in SW so what did you expect?
Honestly, Ubi did delay it at a rather odd time.
