I use to love the games Square Soft made but ever since they merged into Square Enix all there games have been going down hill. This occurred right after Kingdom Hearts. FF12 completely sucked if compared to 10, Kindom hears 2 sucked if compared to the first one and they even made a sequel to legend of mana and that sucked even more than all of the other titles. Is it just me or has Square Enix lost its quality touch? I look at FFXIII and I am just not exited about it because I have a feeling it's going to suck due to all the current Square Enix games doing badly.

If XIII is poor quality, then I will come to this conclusion.

XII wasn't really bad though gameplay wise, although it did have design flaws. The storyline is where square has lost most of its touch imo.

It being multiplatformed and cut into different pieces I believe it has a very strong chance of being a disappointment.

TWEWY and Crisis core disagree with this thread, although ive never been to impressed with SE (or JRPGs in general) these two games at least got me thinking i might be able to like them if i tried, plus they scored well so i guess SE can still bang out a half decent JRPG, although the way JRPGs are that aint saying much TBH.

I liked FF XII. I liked KH II better then the first one also. I don't think they have lost touch with anything. Square-Enix hasn't even released anything to even tell that they suck. What big budget titles do they have that are out??

They are changing and they want to change. I think they are changing for the better, while some think that they are not. They want to evolve there style and not many companies can do that.

I wouldn't say they're bad. They still make good to great games.

But they have become rather comfortable with themselves.

I wouldn't go as far as you have with your post. They have become a very hit-or-miss dev/publisher though. Unlike in the past when almost every game they touched turned to gold.

FF XII= Is rather an MMORPG than a single player game, the worst story I've seen in a FF game. If the story fails the game fails. It felt like I was playing as Aladdin at the start of the game in a MMORPG with 100 npcs and big town for just me, what mindless walking around :/How this game got a 9.0 I wonder myself, I also wonder how Legend of Dragoon got a 6.4.

KH2 = MASSIVE amounts of butting smashing and blocking is useless. The characters seem like they've all dropped 5-10 years in age. All I remember doing in that game is pressing X and Triangle, especially triangle, had to do it 30 or more times in the last battle. The story has also got a lot stupider and the only interesting part was the ending.

I think FF XII started development when they were still SquareSoft if you want to go that way. They have different development teams work on FF games at different periods. Hell, FF XIII began in 2003 with Kitase and co' from FF X so does that make it a S-S game or S-E game? I don;tlook at it from company, but rather from dev teams. Why I hate it when people say they dislike S-E and thier games because they merged. Bunch of bs

I enjoyed KH II more......thats it. Everything flowed for me. Battle system. It was an improvement from KH and I think many people agree.

How is the battle system in KH II an improvement? All it is is MASSIVE amounts of button smashing, boss battles are won by massive pressing of Triangle and yet any move that takes skill like blocking is completely useless. I use to think about battling in KH 1 but in II I just keep pressing XXXXXX Triangle and it's over, and transform if needed. If you say 2003 than it was no longer Square Soft.

Versus and XIII look equally amazing.

They also had the decency to port their best PS1 game, FFTactics to the PSP while improving the actual game.

Nope, my love for Square Enix is stronger than ever. Only way I could love them more is if they made a new Vagrant Story.

Infinite Undiscovery is probably going to be another below average Square Enix game. It may visually look better than Tales of Vesperia but it lacks what Square Soft was and that was Amazing story and combat. With out those it's just another random shove over.

I liked FF 12 but to be honest I really haven't liked the series as much as I did before they switched to more realistic characters.

And I absolutely hate the new character designs, they have no character at all, they all look like rejects from a teen bondage film.

And Crisis Core was absolute trash. was I really supposed to care about this guy? And it reinforced the idea that Cloud Strife is one of the most boring overrated characters EVER.

Wait so there two different games yet connected so your only getting half a game? sounds good to me. So there spending the time to make two different games that come out the same time rather than one that would end up being better than both. FFTactics for the PSP was nice but they didn't add anything other than classes which is a waste. Please don't ask them to kill an already good game like Vagrant Story.

So much hate for FFXII. Just a shame.

I happen to like it. Maybe because I liked FFXI, and the battle system was very enjoyable. Above all I went into playing FFXII with the lowest expectations, and finding out a particular character was in the game.

As far as FFX, I didn't really enjoy it.

Yea I totally agree. They haven't made a truely genuine RPG since FF7,8, and 9.

FFX was very simple and had a terrible ending. He was just a dream?........well I guess its kind of an anti-climax. I guess everone including Yuna(aka "love of his life") will have to just forget ALL ABOUT IT and move on....

FFXII, I never even finished because of the HORRIBLE STORY!!!!! Why does it have to be SO political and WHY do they speak old english!!! A lil 15 year old isnt gonna give a cr*p about politics. Plus wheres the magic of FF? Wheres the evil master trying to destroy the planet? Or how about that village they cared so much about, being burnt to the ground? Its like "oh no they invaded my homeland! King blah has gone too far! Let me speak to the king of Blahville to get some treaty signed".....lame! :x and no secrets, you never get lost, too easy, no chills down your spine like in the old days.

Kingdom Hearts was great and I really enjoyed the story. I liked Kingdom Hearts 2, but not how the story turns out at the end; it lacked realistic emotion. Like after all that drama and longing to find Kiri, when they finally meet, its like "hey there, lets kill the bad guy k?".......sucks.

I LIKED getting lost, shocked, or angry once in a while cuz it means you're really INTO the game. But now the games are too easy and I'd say the exploration went down about 50%. Yea I know FFXII is HUGE but.....it sucks exploring vast regions, only to find a forgotten treasure chest with a sword thats like 5 more att points better but like 15,000 gil more...

How about when you started FF8 in an insane sword fight, then suddenly wake up at the nurse and end up exploring a whole school! Or in FF7, when you entire the Shinra building, not know what to expect, giving you chills with an awesome soundtrack. I could go on forever.

I'd definitely say Square-enix has lost there magic...

Wait so there two different games yet connected so your only getting half a game sounds good to me. FFTactics for the PSP was nice but they didn't add anything other than classes which is a waste. Please don't ask them to kill an already good game like Vagrant Story.

Aha.

They're connected but are not the opposite halfs of the same game. I don't know where you got that idea from.

Yes, Tactics was nice. Very nice and a slight improvement on what was already one of the greatest SRPGs available, I don't see why they would be able to "kill" Vagrant Story with a sequel.

Just sounds like you're trolling Square to be honest.

Yeah, I really liked FFXII, the characters might not have all been truely deep, but Balthier was probably one of the best FF characters ever, the story was still good even if character development didn't fare too well. The combat made up for most of it anyway, people complained the game played itself for you, but no one stopped them from setting it up otherwise.

On the other hand, I really didn't like FFX, it had really boring characters, Auron was cool, but no where near Balthier level, and the story was just underwhelming.

Considering this was the company that did FF7/FF8, Xenogears, and Vagrant Story, yes. I haven't seen the intuition that came about in these games in a long time.
