Square Enix PS4 game Project Z Revealed!

Prepare Yourselves!

Square Enix announced its previously teased PlayStation 4 project “Project Code Z” to be Spelunker Z during a Tokaigi 2015 reveal event.

The game, in development at Tozai Games, will launch as a free-to-play download in Japan on March 19. It will feature online multiplayer with up to six players, character customization, and other elements.

Pets are a new addition—there are multiple kinds, each with their own unique abilities. Players can also collect “Lithographic Seeds,” which let you acquire items to strengthen your otherwise weak Spelunker. Given this is free-to-play, there will be some paid items, as well.

Looks like I'm getting a PS4 this christmas.

That bit of info doesn't do anything for me...there was another Z thread up yesterday.

Interesting about Martin's appearance though.

I agree, I always enjoyed a good Brøderbund game back then. They were kick-ass for the most part. Data East, Capcom, Konami, Brøderbund, and few others I almost always enjoyed. There were a few labels I remember looking forward too, I still remember Brøderbund for games like Spelunker, The original Prince of Persia, The Battle of Olympus, Raid on Bungeling Bay, Lode Runner, and of course The Guardian Legend. :)

Oh, I thought you made a typo, haha. I was just excited to type "Brøderbund" because of that nutty looking "ø". I hardly get to use that here in when foruming.

Those foreign words can throw us for a loop though, for sure, especially since "border" is a word in English but Broder, what the heck is a broder. The brain has it's own version of auto-correct.

I don't know what I expected

So it's not a AAA exclusive JRPG for PS4, it's another indie game LOL

Broderbund were top tier devs back then. Raid on Bungeling Bay might be one of the most inventive games of all times. The game was simply way ahead of its time! And its level editor was actually the prototypical SimCity!!! Anyway, I've also played their timeless classic--Choplifter and of course Prince of Persia. On the other hand, I wasn't that much of Lode Runner fan.

Of all the things I expected....this was not one of them.

Looks like a WiiU type of game, so no thanks.

i like it. Looks like fun, especially playing with friends. and its F2P so thats a plus.

looks like the kind of game that sheep would love. But I need more out of games than just old-fashioned fun to not feel like I'm wasting my time.

@Gelugon_baat: Yeah agreed. Free to play is not appealing to me at all. I like to buy games that give me value from start to finish without nickle and dining me the way through it. New age gamers that don't know any better buy up all that shit.

Well.. not exactly what I would have wanted, but Spelunker is an awesome name no doubt, and the original did have it's charm. Problem is... there are games like it already available on the PS4, and these days those types of games are a dime a dozen.

I'm not sure how a little teaser was getting hyped up so much. Neither SE or Sony did any of the hyping, SE has put up teasers for mobile games so not sure what people were getting excited about without any info.

Anyway though, I will try this if localized but probably not play long being F2P. I refuse to buy any micro transactions.

I mean... Well... I mean, they technically delivered on what they promised.

I really like the spelunker/y games but it seems like someone different makes it every time. Does nobody actually own the IP? Seems like anyone can take the basic elements and make their own version and throw the name on it.

Came in to rant about yet another zombie survival game, but uh yeah.
