Square Enix: We want Final Fantasy to last forever

Square Enix developer Akitoshi Kawazu has said that he wants the Final Fantasy series to last forever. In an interview with German site GameZone, Kawazu was aaked if we'll ever see a final Final Fantasy said;

"I would of course be delighted if Final Fantasy will last forever. When I die, it would be an honor if standing on my tombstone, "He was involved in the first Final Fantasy!" That would be fantastic - literally!"

So it looks like they have no plans to quit the series just yet. It was revealed in a recent trailer that Final Fantasy XIII will be released in the United States and Europe on9th March, 2010.

They arent the only ones. I want people in 1000 years to look back and think of the beggining of FF as a great event. I want to FF history to be taught in school, in case thers still schools. Or maybe not.

But if thers a game that can last forever, it is FF, no doubt. Its a game that reinvents himself with each game, with a new and different storyline and characters every new game. As long RPGs exist, thers no need for FF to end. FF will adapt with the times.

If it lasted for 14 main titles already, i dont see why it should stop now.

Oh, the irony, might as well call it Forever Fantasy. :P

Haven't played 11 or dirge, I concur that AC was just fan service... but X-2 had a great story if you just gave it a chance, and Spirits Within may not have been very FF-ish, but it was still a great movie.

Honestly, I'm kinda tired of Spirits Within getting a bad rep... if it didn't have FF in its title, nobody would have anything bad to say about it. It was a good movie, period.

none of those is a main title FF, and one is a movie, actually one if not the best movie based on games. So, none of these games had the ammount of work, people, money and effort of a main title FF.

what's funny is that as much money as Final Fantasy is worth, there are other series that spawned off of final fantasy. For example, the FF: Legends series on the original gameboy gave life to Saga Frontier and the Saga series. Final Fantasy Adventure (also for the gameboy) was the first game in the Mana series (sword of mana, legend of mana, etc etc). It's pretty interesting, FF kinda has its finger in other series that have also been around for a long time.

Well, I've never heard of Saga Frontier, but the Mana series was definitely made by Squaresoft back before they merged with Enix.

Well, it's not so much as a 'Final' Fantasy now, is it? :P

I personally didn't see FF going anywhere after IX. I was proven wrong. :lol:

Oh and hers a new FF TV ad, with more gameplay. Also the beggining CGI makes me believe this will be the most beautifull game ever, even if it doesnt manage to have the best graphics in a technical way.

LMAO at using COD as a comparison. No, just no. CODs are the same crap with new levels and the same short story. After BF2, you would think FPS shooters would adapt to the new approach to realism. Hah! It's still stuck with the boring infantry-combat system. Many FPS shooters are a great example of rehash.

Oh yay 5 stuff ups in final fanatasy's entire 23 year histroy (not exactly sure though) means we have a crisis on our hands. Seriously the amount of great final fantasy games over the years easily outways the bad and then some. So yeah "by just continue doing what they are doing" would keep the series afloat because what's a few dud games when you have easily 25 + good ones? Also it should only be 3 stuff ups, not like 5 becasue FF11 and FFX-2 weren't bad by any means, not as good as regular FF gamers but still good and not worth counting as bad by any means.

Great, so final fantasy will annoy me forever.

Well, it's really a matter of opinion, but it is pretty sad how so many people are blind to everything but FFVII.

I'll give it until 15, if they keep making it, I'll make a pure hate out of it for no reason.

For now, I'll respect a person's choice to even play it.

Sorry S-E but something so good as FF isnt meant to last forever.

FF7, FF8, and FF11 were all playable on the PC. And it's kinda selfish to want a series to end just because it isn't ported to your platform of choice. If you want to play it that badly, buy a playstation.Greyfeld

Final Fantasy contributing to the death of PC gaming. If FFVII and VIII were ported properly, and FF9, 10, 12, and 13 had PC versions, i'm pretty sure that more console gamers might start looking at the PC, since FF is one of the world's greatest franchises. Would there be as much people saying that PC gaming is dying?
